Hi Mary,
Your analysis on Canada got me thinking. I added up all the hours from those countries that either had zero or negative growth. There were plenty of countries at 1%, like France with 18,000,000 hours, that I was sorely wanting to add.
That totaled 469,066,000 hours or 37% of their effort totally wasted!!! At $10 per hour they could have "donated" $4.6 billion to feed, house and provide medical care to those in real need.
Tends to make me rather ill and quite angry. I hate waste and stupidity. Unfortunately the above is summed up by the ave. Dub with the scripture proof "love of the greater number will cool" blah, blah, blah.

Another view of the figures would be divide the number of new publishers into the total world wide hours.
About 5,827 hours per convertee. However 20% or about 40,000 came from only one country, Mexico.
Now dividing the number of new publishers, minus those from Mexico, would yield an effort of 7,122 hours/conversion.
I am very curious to know the number of new publishers that are not "family" members, etc.
Presuming even just half are family that would equal 90,000 actual new converts worldwide, except Mexico, for a stunning 14,244hours of service to save one single soul.
Joe Hover sure runs one very effieient organ i zation. NOT

Hi Candid,
I divided the world population by the number of "Publishers" and arrived at a ratio of 1,000 to 1.
Therefor for each publisher they are responsible to preach to 1,000 people. If they are zealous then they might get 100 hrs service per year. Figure finding 3 householders actually home when they call would equal a total of 300 "contacts". I guess the other 700 just are SOL.
Now factor in the 15 minute folks and also a "fudge" factor on real time spent and the ratio would be much higher.

do you guys think social security will ever be reformed?
during the election bush proposed to fix social security through private accounts but given the stock market's last couple of years i don't think private accounts are going to be the solution to it all.
this is not a post written with the intent of bashing a single person, because frankly i think there's enough blame to go around.
Dear BigBoi,
Check out the tax rates of your friendly Euro goverments. The tax rate in Europe is siginicantly higher than the US. Uneployment is also twice the US rate. The economies of France, Germany et al are in terrible shape. The concept of always loading the tax burden on those "nasty" "evil" corporations has been shown counterproductive so many times it is beyond debate. Most companies are very pleased to make 10% net profit. In fact in order to be able to survive the lean times they must make this percentage to survive and be able to provide us all those wonderful modern conviencences we all have come to depend on. When "we" raise the tax rate the corps must raise their prices, lay off people or reduce investment is equipment and plants in order to survive. Witness the Reagan, Bush tax cuts and corresponding economic increases.
Raise taxes and the economy slows. If a business does not feel it has a chance to make a decent return on risking their capital to make an investment they won't and the econony starts to shrink and you are out of a job.
What inflation are you talking about? It has been non existant for the last 5-6 years. Quit reading and beleiving the mass media and research the issues and start to think for your self.

dr. phil is looking to talk to people who feel a family member may be involved with a cult.
check it out if you'd like on his website (drphil.com) under "be on the show".

Because the WT is probably the largest "cult" in operation today and one of the best camoflaged I would hope Dr. Phil would take an interest. He could accomplish more benefit per program by inspecting the WT than the typical "cult" which is usually quite small and insignificant. But being small makes them an easier target with less possible retaliation from the legal eagles. I wonder how he would feel about taking on a relatively powerful broad based "mainstream" / "christian" organization. Hopefully he will receive enough intelligent and insightful "tracts" from all of us to empower the good Doctor to take action.

has the internet and forums like these caused an exodus from the j-dubs?
when i left in the early 1990s i met support groups through the yellow pages but it still felt like i was the only one in the world who was an apostate.
i've come to this forum in the last year to browse because my brother has now left.
Hi guys,
When my wife started studying in 1974 I went to a Florida Atlantic University research library to find out about this "free no obligation bible study". I searched high and low about the JW's and WTBTS and found zip, zero, nada. When I was a college student I took several courses in research so I had the background to search mainstream literature. At that time there just wasn't anything to find so I ended up getting dunked in 1981.
After being divorced in 2000 and trying to find someone to date a good friend & brother told me there were JW dating sites on the net. I would never have looked on the net to reserach the WTBS but looking for a "hot" sister (is that an oxymoron?) seemed OK with me. About the first thing I came across was this site. What a treasure trove of information, free and open debate and people who really, really care and love each other and most of us have never even met face to face. thanks Simon and all who have posted here over the years.
The WTBTS Publishing Empire which for nearly 100 years was one of the world's great publishing machines can not hold a candle to even one individual with a computer and dial up. Like the TV commercial which shows a college class room where the Prof is rambling on about how capital intensive it is to publish on a large scale and a student speaks up to inform the Old Prof about the power of desktop publishing.
Say goodbye WTBTS.

badwillie wrote the following experience about an ignorant comment from a do:.
case in point:.
a friend received a full scholarship from a local college to study to become a veternarian.
I will always remember the time I was striving, brown nosing, for more privledges and Bros. Clayton Peace was visiting. My first chance to showcase my "talents" was working door to door with him. As we approached a door he said that this would be "his door". During the conversation with the householder I was struck with what I thought would be a helpful comment and joined in the discussion. The HH seemed satisfied with "our" presentation but as we walked away from the door C.P. said to me with an icy tone "I thought that was 'my' door".
Later we were hosting Bro & Sis Peace for lunch. My wife left her Mac computer on the kitchen counter where it normally sat. I suggested that before their visit she discreetly hide it. My ever so subservient mate said NO that would be "dishonest". Well, when Bro. P entered our house he immediately spotted the computer but to my surprise was very interested in seeing how it worked. Unkown to my wife the last person to use the Mac was my younger daughter who changed the incorrect alert to a Fart sound. Needless to say Bro. P made plently of wrong choices and every time received a Bronx Cheer for his efforts. I truely thought that I would die laughing. I am still chuckling and that was many years ago.
