  the new forum originally had a little country flag next to each post showing the country that the post was made from based on the geoip encoding (the country the ip address is from).

  before i switched over to the new site someone made an issue about it violating their privacy and i didn't want to complicate and confuse the switchover with policy debate at the same time as technical issues so removed the flags even though i disagreed.. someone has already requested it as a feature and i think it should be added back so i thought it's now time to open the discussion and get everyone's opinions.

  Simon suggests taking measures to protect your identity. So - let's see: this means not being able to openly discuss parts of your life which make you identifiable to JWs who knew you.

  basically - you can't talk about yourself. Just things in general which don't really affect you.

  ABSOLUTELY NOT!

  It would be very easy to identify me if the country were posted as I have given too much personal and professional information over the years.

  Why not just ask us all to allow our names to be listed as well, after all there must be thousands of John Smiths, David So- and -Sos or Maggie St  John Crawleys in each relevant country.

  If I choose to keep my name private it ought not to be possible to trace me by gathering information about certain members in a particular country.  The WTBTS are sufficiently venomous that they would find a way of coming after the mentally diseased.  I do not wish to have my privacy invaded, because some Goblin in Bethel has gathered things about me, and can trace which congregation territory I now live in, currently undisturbed by their phone calls and pestering.

  In fact, I chose NOT to reveal my nationality when I signed up, for this very reason.  For it to be revealed now against my wishes I would see as a violation.  The anonymity this site currently gives allows far more freedom of expression than would happen if somebody thinks "X in XXXX congregation can guess this is me, and may inform."

  It was bad enough being in the police state that is Da Troof, without now having to look over my shoulder, before I reveal some detail about myself.  There are enough of us still dealing with the fallout from the cult - Maybe you are long past it, and could not care less if elders you  don't even know come knocking on your door.

  AS for trolls and impostors, I can only add that after many years here, I have seen them dispatched most adequately by the genuine posters on this board.

(condradicting Christs words) Since they now claim that they do NOT fall asleep, WHO exactly are the wise virgins who fall asleep?? (I don't want to start yet another debate over the abandonment of 1914)

  for a while i have shaken my head after learning how jw's interpret (rather corrupt the meaning of) matthew 8:11. i thought it couldn't get any worse.

  i was thinking about this today, after seeing another thread on the subject of serving in israel, of all places.

  there have been many comments on the recent thread, and the ones a little older, about how utterly ridiculous that premise is.. the bigger question is why do i have to apply?

  I remember year after year, at District A$$emblies: People collapsing from heat exhaustion or dehydration. ("Member how it is "disrespectful" to be seen drinking during the sessions??)

  I kid you not, when the society said you can drink WATER during the sessions, an eldugh said "what a loving provision from jehoobie - they encourage us to drink during the sessions, so we won't get dehydrated."

  EXCUSE ME?? Since when did I need permission, or directives as to when I can put a cup to my lips?

  Could a JW be DF for celebrating Festivus?

  after all, it's a secular holiday not a religious holiday.. if i was still an active member, i think i would start a new tradition of celebrating festivus.

  most likely no jws would come, but that's okay, it's a famiily holiday anyway.. what grounds would the elders have to disfellowship you?.

  Whatever happened to Paul's words "Let no man judge you with regard to a festival or a new moon.... the one who celebrates celebrates it to the Lord."

  How can I ever leave this cult?

  i've been out nearly two years but it's not out of me.

  i am on school holidays now til february so i thought without work to worry about i can come off my medication.

  i phased it slowly, starting in early november to avoid the physical side effects of coming down.

  You have left the Cult. It takes time for the Cult to leave you.

  I have been there myself, the people crossing the street to avoid me, the gossip, the informal shunning as not DF. You name it. The two year mark for me was the worst, too far gone to go back, but not knowing yet where the hell I was. Admittedly, it was made easier because I had already made friends outside.

  This time of year is always difficult anyway, I am constantly frazzled. Coming off meds cold turkey is bad in itself. It does get better. Find something to do that you enjoy, that gets you out meeting people. Most humans are basically nice. The "troof" attracts all sorts of misfits and wierdos; fifteen years does damage. Try 30 as in my case!

  Hang in there - the beautiful country is beyond the badlands. Every step you take gets you there.
