uh oh, that's bad! 539 B.C. was the fall of babylon, not the destruction of the temple. it was 587/586 B.C. when jerusalem was destroyed. you're obviously not a golfer!

Can a person believe that the Bible contradicts itself and be a Christian?
by booker-t ini am having some conflicting feelings lately that i need some advice on.
i am starting to believe that the bible contradicts itself but at the same time i love jehovah and jesus and have hope for some form of eternal life.
that will never change but i have never believed in the bible 100% coming from god.

well said, mungo. when genesis falls, the new testament crumbles too.
that said, it's probably not bad to be a liberal christian, but it aint any better than being a taoist, buddhist or whatever... and it's simply not necessary. when you find out that either there is/are no god/s, or there is/are one/some, but he/she/they don't care to enlighten us, you can live life even more intensively. -

aloneinoh, you are not alone in oh such a confusing yet liberating situation. keep on searching and think a lot before you really go and confront your family... remember that they won't listen to any arguments you got from the internet. so be well prepared before talking to them or don't talk to them about it.

JW's and Patriotism?
by c.dawn ini posted this earlier but can't find the post.
don't know if it got lost in cyber space or i'm just blind.
but, i can't find it.. my sister is a jw from around 1985. i was studying on and off with them, at the same time, but asked to many probing questions and wasn't getting satisfactory answers.then felt god led me elsewhere, where i have continued to grow in biblical knowledge.in my church you are encouraged to prove everything the minister says to you.

it maybe is natural to love the place you grew up. but not the country/nation as such... patriotism and it's bigger brother nationalism are probably the root of the world's problems (along with religion). and what the heck is a god-fearing country?

Famous Atheist Now Believes in God
by MegaDude inhttp://abcnews.go.com/us/wirestory?id=315976
article i read today..... .
famous atheist now believes in god .

@heathen: the bible-god and the quran-god are the very same. that's why islam views jews and christians as "on the right way, but still wrong". and that guy dismisses all jehovah/allah-style gods.
@flower & nicolas: as already said - he doesn't believe in afterlife, thus it can't be the fear of death that makes him change his mind. but seems like flower has "not enough time" to let us know the reason why she thinks otherwise. -

Your favorite quote about religion/God?
by formerout ini was going to add this to a comment to a post of mine in rune's topic "why?
" (if anybody was paying attention to it) but i figured i would start my own thread on it.. i have always liked quotes, especially very profound life lessons revealed in a short quip.. one of my favorites is by michel de montaigne: .
"man is surely stark mad.

Are blood fractions safer than primary blood components?
by IT Support ini'm thinking through my new position on blood transfusions, and would appreciate your 'pearls of wisdom.
i now feel that, while a blood transfusion is still dangerous, i would accept it as a last resort, if all else failed.
i would not die, or allow any of my family to die, for want of a transfusion of plasma, platelets, or red or white cells.

the "blood has to be poured out" dogma is still in use. they contradict themselves with it, but they don't seem to care... because the stereotype witness won't ask "why" anyway...
