If this happened, what would you do?

you have been following the news for weeks on iraq and wonder, "when will we attack and get this thing done?

" finally we invade and the war is in full swing.

the economy, which has been struggling for months now, finally caves in and major retailers fold as of the results of an extremely poor holiday shopping season.

Yeah, good post whyhideit. I've been thinking about the same thing for awhile now - glad to see I'm not the only one that sees the realities of today's world.

I've never been the type to say, "whatever happens happens - you can't change it." I say try to a part of the solution - be proactive - or safegaurd yourself. It's like people in Florida who know a huge hurricane is coming and don't secure their house or abandon their house to go somewhere safer. I don't see the logic in it myself.

The reality is that we are at a very critical point in history right now. The nuclear threat is REAL, especially in America and I think Americans are too confident in the government preventing it from happening. The fact is that it is quite possible there are already nuclear devices in this country in several different locations, waiting for the right time. I know for a certainty I wouldn't be living in New York or L.A. right now, and we're (g/f and I) actually very close to moving out of the Bay Area. Reacting out of fear you say? The way I see it, we're both young and have a prospectful future ahead of us, and I want to live to see the day I put a ring on her finger. I want to live to see the day we purchase our first home, etc etc etc...point being, it's up to each and every individual to take charge of their life. I'm not the sort to sit back and get blown away when every warning sign was available telling me it was coming. Doesn't make sense to me at all.

I wonder what the latest is on WTC moving out of NYC. No doubt the world situation has come into play in this decision of theirs. They all watched 9/11 happen from across the river in utter disbelief - I wonder how many Bethelites left after that. There's a lot of people from rural areas of the US at Bethel that HATE city life but are there cuz it's "the right thing to do." I can just picture them high-tailing it outta there! :-) That's a traumatic experience to witness....can't say I'd blame anyone for doing so really....

Reborn, thanks for posting that info. I'm sure I was taught about this in school, however that was years ago, and being a Witness kid, I didn't concern myself with things I didn't feel was practical, and we didn't vote, so....I was one of those "he's smart but doesn't apply himself" kids.

Since coming out of the org, I've come to realize there's a shitload of information I don't know and need to learn. I'm preparing myself to get a degree, but I will have to fund that myself, which means making money first, which I'm in the process of doing. I do customer support work full time for a semiconductor company and am now studying to get my Real Estate license and will be working part-time w/ a local realator/broker once I pass the test. I also write music and am a DJ and am in the process of turning that into a business venture as well. I'm saying this because there are a lot of very intelligent people on this board, and a few have a tendency to criticize others that aren't as book smart as themselves, and some of us just haven't had the opportunity to gain that knowledge yet. Or maybe they just haven't retained the information taught to them in earlier years due to the fact that it has never been applicable until recently. I'll be the first to admit this of myself, and that I'm on a never-ending quest (it seems) to educate myself to the workings of this world, and if I say something that may not be 100% correct, it's easier if someone simply corrects my statements rather than insults my intelligence while doing so. I'm not saying this to attack either one of you, for I understand the nature of the comments made (freeman said he's 'guilty of this sometimes myself') ...just something for all of us to keep in mind.

At any rate, thanks again for the info for I now have a deeper understanding on how it all works. After reading this info, I fail to see how it proves that Bush didn't cheat. How can anyone be certain that foul play wasn't involved in the votes of Florida, a Democratic state? Just curious.

Freeman, someone not too long ago brought up the fact that Bush has a Harvard degree - I too find that admirable, but I don't see how that automatically should cause reason to put him in high esteem. There are tons of college graduates out there that don't do well in the secular world because they're 1) stuck up or 2) book smart but have no common sense. They feel this degree will automatically get them through life, and it just doesn't work that way. Wisdom and intelligence are two different things - wisdom is knowledge learned through study and life experience and thus exemplified by actions, intelligence is simply learned information. (not dictionary definitions but you catch my drift) How a person uses his intelligence is what counts, and I fail to see how Mr. Bush is putting his to best use. Still looking for someone to point this out to me - hasn't happened yet. What's he doing for the economy? The environment? Foreign policies?? ????

AGREED, Dan...

here we are in a frikkin recession - got thousands of brilliant, hard-working people without jobs, and you got these guys that exercise and play for a living making, not thousands but MILLIONS of dollars a year. Do they get salary cuts and times like this? Have ticket prices gone down at sporting events? I don't think so.

Where are the values? Unfortunately the people that really make a difference in the world are not properly rewarded for it, IMO.

Garrett Losch (sp?) gave a Morning Worship discussion one morning on American Football and how violent it is. However he didn't reference this article - you'd think a GB member would read all of his magazines from cover to cover like a good little witness - or at least research such info before giving a morning worship lecture about it. Instead he just talked about the violence displayed and "being caught up in the spirit of the world" blah-blah-blah. His message was basically a "true" christian would not watch or participate in American football because of the violent nature of the sport. This further contributed to my existing doubts - I mean.....here they are trying to control EVERYTHING we do! I couldn't believe it - now Bethelites had this moral obligation to uphold these righteous words of the GB, but most of us (at least the guys I knew) pretty much disregarded the whole thing. This was one of the things that led to me leaving Bethel though - I felt that I should never disregard the words of a GB member - it was quite evident he was rambling off at the mouth about his personal feelings. I'm sure there's probably been article's about violent sports, and it's possible football was mentioned (I don't have WT CD-ROM) but the articles never said not to watch or play football, just to be on gaurd of the spirit it invokes. Whateveeerrrrrrrr.....I just got tired of all the control mechanisms - to me life isn't supposed to be like that, and I don't appreciate people trying to control every facet of my life and mental process.

Someone that has not memorized all the rules that applies to USA legislature and voting is not ignorant or unintelligent.

If it works like you say it does, why the hell do people vote to begin with? All this time and energy goes into getting the people to vote, and their votes have no significance whatsoever?

I'm thoroughly confused now. Just the fact that the whole system is so screwy should tell you something IMO - it shouldn't be this difficult to elect a President for pete's sake. To me it sounds like it's purposely set up to be rigged in someone's favor if it comes down to it. This is one subject I'll admit I don't understand all the deets on - I'll have to put it on the list of future studies...

Realist,

right on - i could agree with ya. A reason I like Jolie is cuz she's active in charity organizations and such. She seems like a really cool individual besides being incredibly sexy, which is a rarity amongst the Hollywood persona. A friend of mine met "Chandler" from Friends at a ski resort and he constantly tried to get her in bed. She's a lesbian and told him such and he still felt that was no reason she shouldn't. She ended up cussing him out and walking away because he was such a self-centered, egotiscal moron. There are others too...like Dick Clark, which you see first hand on Michael Moores' documentary Bowling for Columbine.
