Convention Delegates (I use that term loosely)
by mjarka911 ini'm a union firefighter and just went to my first state association union convention as a delegate and it gave me pause about how we were all called delegates at assemblies.
as a delegate to the firefighter convention, i was able to debate resolutions on the floor and in committee as to the diretion of the organization.
then, most importantly, i was able to vote my choice.

That's what I thought too, Sass. Today at the firefighter convention if the "Aye's" shouted out from the convention floor sounded pretty equal to the "Nay's", the chairman would then call for a standind roll call. Imagine if enough witnesses shouted "NO!" to the resolutions at the DC, would the speaker still say the resolutions were "adopted". It's ridiculous - they think they are a united democratic theocracy but are actually a totalitarian cult! It makes the head spin.

As a delegate to the firefighter convention, I was able to debate resolutions on the floor and in committee as to the diretion of the organization. Then, most importantly, I was able to vote my choice. As a true delegate - I have a say and a meaningful voice.
I contrast this with the meaningless designation of "delegate" at an assembly. Imagine if a resolution was read and, instead of clapping like a seal, you stood and disagreed with the resolution and offered an ammendment to change the direction of the organization (i.e. child abuse, blood doctrine, shunning). We all know a judicial committee would be convened before the day was out and you would be pressed with questions like: Do you believe God is using the FDS to direct the organization? Any answer other than yes and you would risk not being in "good standing".
I know I'm rambling, but it just struck me today that they try to use these democratic constructs like "delegates" and "resolutions" but they are false and empty words!

Try to make it to your meetings!
by moomanchu in.
keep trying to get to your meetings remember the sister who walked 2 hours one way to feast at the spiritual banquet , or the bro who crossed crocodile infested waters to get to his meeting.. anyone remember any other guilt trip inducing illustrations?

I remember when my old congregation had to change sunday meeting times to 3:30 pm. For decades, they had the KH to themselves and always had morning meetings, but with the influx of Spanish witnesses - 2 new congs had been formed. Suddenly, the Spanish brothers wanted to rotate meeting times (the gall of them!).
So anyway, one elder was complaining and the CO told him about some woman from the Congo who had to start out the night before and traverse 2 rivers, a jungle and several hostile miles just to get to a meeting. The elder replies:
"Yeah - but when she finally did get there - it was a morning meeting!" -

Should I admit to JWs that I am disfellowshipped?
by jwfacts ini know about 2000 jws in sydney, and have 50 that are tax clients, so barely a week goes by without bumping into someone i know.
it seems that few of them realise that i am disfellowshipped because they talk freely to me.
last week i accidently sat next to an elder on the train and we engaged in small talk for over 30 minutes.. should i admit to these people that i am not a jw?.

I like the choice of not playing by their rules. Think about it if you:
a. Tell them your DF'd, they shun you or
b. Don't tell them. Then they either:
1. Find out and Shun you
2. Don't discover it and continue normal relations
It's their dumbass rules, not your anymore!

Sunday notes at the District Convention: Avoid an independent spirit!
by truthseeker infinally i am free.
i wandered outside the convention around mid-afternoon, returning for the concluding song, so i didn't get to hear "summary of the botchtower" nor the final talk (which gets all the seals clapping).. .
know that the kingdom of god is near .

It's funny how, when you look close, you can see the mind contol now. That point about criticizing how things are done is immediaetly linked with "Diotrophes - who wanted the first place". As if legitiment critics of the child molestation policy, blood doctrine flip-flops, UN membership and on and on are the same as complaining because you want to be first.

I contacted my Elder father and mom...
by White Waves inafter 8 mos of shunning acknowledged by familia and friends, i contacted my elder dad - mike, and he put my mommy on the phone for support - she was never the touchy feely type - more the depressed secluded type.
i wanted to know if my dad had any reason why i shouldn't send my official da letter to 2 congregations and parishioners (since my first request was denied).
he told me they then could have no contact with me, instead of limited contact.... i told them my jw family has had no contact with me since october and i did not even receive an invite to my baby sister's wedding in december- who i raised and cared for for 3 1/2 years while my mother was in a depression and had health problems.

Hello White Waves
I also feel its better to go your own way without the bitterness. I DA'd myself and actually wish I didn't. At the time - I didn't want to give them the power to DF me, but after being on the board a while, I like the approach of moving on and not letting them bait me into buying into their system of membership. Elders who have snooped around and tried to confront people on this board about their beliefs have looked ridulous!
As this religion deteriorates, maybe others of your family and friends will come around and you don't want to hand them an artifical barrier to this by DA'ing yourself.
Good luck!

Must have been taken in Chicago on Clark Street. The store is called "Nuts on Clark" and has the freshest cashews. This is right down the street from Wrigley field.
