i used to always see them preaching.
now, it seems as though they rarely are around.
the only witnesses i see, every once in a while, are the hispanic ones..
I rarely see them around but I know they've been to my door. They leave there "scat" (tracts) behind. And about 2 months ago there was an unexpected knock and I answered it without thinking and lo and behold, two elders from my former KH came to call on me. I haven't seen these guys for over 10 years. I moved 5 years ago and no one from my former life knew where I was. With the internet today, you can find out where anyone lives today and I guess that is what they did. One thing I can say about these two is that they were great guys when I served and socialized with them I was caught so off guard that all I did was ask how they were doing but they were strictly business. All I said was that I'm not interested in talking at all and closed the door.

i asked my son quite randomly before bed what he thinks the meaning of life is.
like always, his answer brought a smile to my face.
he said, "to have a great time .. to have fun and have friends ... and be happy.
Wonderful!

a little bit of background (for those of you who came in late).... i used to be a jw (no joke!).
i married a jw wife.
we were married for about 20 years, and i couldn't take it anymore - since i was no longer a jw, and didn't believe in their doctrines anymore.. i got divorced in 2002. since that time, i was solo, and then met a nice non-jw woman.
That's great!

in the 50's, 60's, 70's, when i was an active jw, the traveling overseers both district and circuit,(before elder arrangement) came around to visit local congregations.. two points to be made about this.
when pastor russell died, rutherford wanted federal control of the varied congregations for himself.
under russell, all the groups were independent and unencumbered by an organization.
Thanks Terry for your insight. Once again, you are right on the money! Keep on posting.
By the way......your book was great reading.

i'm on it every couple of days and it's usually to see pics of my grandkids or to get the 411 onwhat's going on..
I'm on facebook but have no xjws as my friends. I have enough new people in my life. My biggest problem is being addicted to Candy Crush. I need a rehab and 12 step program to keep me away from it. lol

since jws are to be no part of the world, it would seem implausible that any witness would even talk about political preferences.. after being on this site for over a decade, it seems to me that there are a number of closeted political junkies.. were you vocal at all about politics and about the town/city/state or country that you were in?.
With my JW brainwashing I felt that politics was and abomination. But I did vote for people running for office in my Union with the approval of one of the elders who said that was an entirely different matter. In about the past 8 years I have voted in all local and national elections though.

gorby.
Thanks for posting this Gorbatchov. A lot of names I recognize. Only one that I knew persdnally though. David Beigler (if it is the same person) was our district overseer in the Pittsburgh area in the 1980's.

i'm still runnin' against the wind.
i'm older now but still runnin' against the wind.
well i'm older now and still runnin'.
Thanks everyone. I'm feeling much better today. I'm most grateful that my daughter is out of this cult too. We are very close even though there is a 1200 mile distance between us. I am in the Pittsburgh area and she is in Bonita Springs. She left the religion about a year before I did. Neither one of us knew that the other was fed up and enlightened. One night when I met her for dinner I told her that I no longer wante to be a JW. She was actually elated with my statement and I gave her my copy of Crisis of Conscience. That book sealed our WT fate for good. That was about 1999.
I get down to Florida several times a year to spend time with her. She now has a career that she loves and tons of good friends around her. I'm retired but also have many worthwhile friends from all walks of life here in my area. I was in Bonita Springs for 15 days at the end of August through Sept. and loved it even though it was hot, humid and rainy. I'll be there again for Thanksgiving like always and I always go down for the Bonita Springs Blues Fest every March. A really great event!
Thanks and take care all.
