What is the GB tellin us?
by IP_SEC ini?ve been reading some posts about the future of the whole governing body and fds doctrines and have come to notice something.. it seems like recently the literature has been focusing more on personal bible reading and understanding.
oh they still spew crap about how great the publications of the fds are, but i notice a little bit of a trend away from that.
for example: the bible reading highlights on the school.

I honestly believe these comments mean nothing as far as a trend to get away from the gb. The wt has consistently been "inconsistent' on all these matters in print. What really matters is what the elders, c.o., and so forth say. If pressed, on this arcticle and scripture the elders would no doubt say something like, 'Christ is the head of the congregation. And we know the gb is the representative of the congregation. Therefore, the spirit teaches us through that chain.' Jehovah, Jesus, GB, so forth...

Is it legal for the WT to Disassociate someone?
by confusedjw insince it is well defined that when the wt kicks you out you are disfellowshipped - there action.
and that when you want to leave you disassociate - your action.
how is it that the wt can da you?

I had this discussion with the elders when i simply wanted to meet with others on my own and discuss the bible. They said even that was a reason to "da" someone. Basically, almost anything you do which is not acceptable to the wtbs and it becomes part of their knowledge is an excuse to "da" you. I actually had an elder call me and ask if i had joined another church yet because he wanted it to be easier to "da" me. What a freak eh?

O.k., we have all heard the stories. Some poor soul just went through some major crisis in their lives. What do they do? They pray of course. They ask God to please show them "the way". What happens next? The "dubbies" appear. Saved! Thank you Jehover!
I was wondering what the actual odds of this happening might be? If my math isn't too fuzzy i believe the ratio of publisher to person is about 1 to 1000. Is that correct? In the U.S the ratio is more like 1 to 250 right? Of course, the ratio of publisher to actual household would seem even lower wouldn't it? So, really, the odds of this happening are pretty damn good aren't they?
Come all you thirsty ones (mathemeticians) and help me out here. What are the odds do you figure?

The Bible Students as a Healthy Alternative
by jgnat in.
for some exiting jw's, they are "true believers" as far as some of the key doctrines of the wtbts are concerned, but they feel trapped in an organization that seems far removed from its original principles.. do you think the bible students are a relatively healthy alternative to the wts machine?.

Bill Bowen on VH-1 discussing jw sex abuse!! (MichaelJackson biography)
by sf ini am, right now, watching vh-1's history of the jacksons and in particular, the charges filed against him.. they just showed how mrs. jackson became a devout jw, showed the kh, and a few wt mags.
then, without expecting it, there was bill bowen!
talking about the epidemic of abuse in this church.

Official WT Policy Breaks Up Families
by IT Support ingumby posted a comment about wt's disfellowshipping policy.
i checked with him where it was from, and this is the source reference:
baptized persons who have not associated for some time.

However, when factors such as possible legal action exist, it is best to consult the Society before proceeding. (w87 9/1 p. 14)
i found this legal angle interesting...

last june when i was first trying to leave the wtbs i met up with bible students in milwaukee. i went to several meetings with them. actually, before that even i had been checking out their websites and e-mailing them. i came into contact with 1 local "brother" via e-mail and we talked many times. it was actually quite beneficial to me to help me exit because when i was in meetings with the elders i told them i wasnt in agreement with the whole notion of 1 small group (governing body) being the "faithful and discreet slave". i told them i had met another group who showed love, believed pretty much the same things and met together regularly and were worldwide. it pretty much shot down all the objections they could bring up. i think they were befuddled quite frankly. i don't think they could understand who it could be who i was talking about because of course jw's are taught all bible students are gone. of course, because i would be attending meetings outside of the dubs they still wanted to da me. i dodged them for a bit until it became more advantagous for me to da myself. i still went to bible student meetings for a little bit and enjoyed myself somewhat but soon saw many problems again. plus, i was doing additional research on the side and became agnostic. i no longer attend. yes, "rr" is a bible student. i pm'd with him as well and was on his bible student forum for a little while. he's a good guy.
