went to the kh for the first time in about a year.. i went in part because i have a couple of friends there (i'm not df or da).. good or bad, here were my observations.... 1) people were generally friendly, but it seems (and honestly) that most of the friendly ones were the ones considered "spiritually weak" by kh standards.
2) it's pretty sad how much the "f and d slave" is actually worshiped.. it seemed that every other watchtower comment was geared toward praising, "jehovah's faithful slave., etc.
I never really had a chance to mourn. Even up to 3 years later when the elder that "counciled me on crying" found out that I put flowers on his grave (on the aniversary of his death), I was given the "WHAT? YOU DID WHAT???"
Jeez. I remember those faces. That contorted look of horror that you just couldn't understand.
That kind of apathy towards a person's emotions is just inhuman.

last week, my daughter asked me how much hair spray is too much (for those of you who dont know, spiky hair was banned at our district convention).
so, i told her about bethel labs.
it is a secret laboratory in brooklyn where intricate experiments are painstakingly carried out, day and night.
I heard that one tested included having young men and women dressing up in alternately baggy, tight clothes, and listening to either rap or heavy metal. In both cases, after a time of listening to the song, they were administered the DIC test. (Demon Influence Content)
They concluded that Rap, mixed with wearing baggy pants, really spiked the DIC. Then they wrote several Young Stooges Ask Columns, with that info listed, along with testimonials that occured only once in recorded history. ex. (I listened to rap and therefore ended up on welware, gave birth to 3 crack babies, sold myself in the red light district, while in my spare time, killed several people over half empty bottles of gin)

who is out there to help jw's when they decide to leave the organization?
if it wasn't for forums like this one or internet in general, what aid would those who leave the organization get?.
if we go back a few years before the internet was available to everyone, how did these people who quit, heal from their jw experience?

I think that leaving in states that are more critical of JWs might be easier. Here in Jersey, you're allowed to be as hypocritical as you want, as long as you pretend well.
In those cases, the general response when you want to leave the hall is, "Why not just come to meetings, and keep the peace?"
They just don't get it.
Still, the support and knowledge base is much better than a few years ago, even when I first started to leave the JWs. Imagine what it'll be like in the next ten years.

no problem!.
I for one used a chronic back problem to escape most meetings, and those I couldn't escape, I avoided once I was there by walking around the grounds the whole meeting.

it's written by an american, bill bryson, and it covers the 18 years he spent living here in england.
I just read the first six pages of text from the book.....I must read the rest. It looks fantastic.
When he was talking about being in a pub and people giving directions, I just had to laugh.

i will be backing former vermont gov howard dean to run in '04.
my reason: clinton was quoted recently as saying that "strong and wrong always beats weak and right".
i remember during the run up to election in 2000 watching the bush vs. gore debates and thinking..i know gore is smarter but he comes across as weaker in debate.
The Dems have been good at knocking Bush, but short on offering viable plans for the future.
This, I agree with wholeheartedly.
I have always had a problem with the two party system. I don't think either really has a handle on things.
Still, Bush disturbs me. He's emotional and a good family man it seems, but incorporating religion into politics is dangerous. Trying to document our every move with the Patriot Acts is dangerous.
The economy: not his fault.
The deficit: HIS fault. I would rather know that in 20 years that we have no debt, than get a tax break which equals a few pennies per paycheck.
I don't hate Bush, I just think that he's not the man for the job. I just want a generally more balanced president, who will look at long term instead of just what happens within his own term.

My wife and I have had it with this expensive gate to hell, and we're getting out of Jersey.
So, how is it out there? What state do you guys think is better as to employment, car insurance, taxes, schools, etc? (between Oregon and Washington)
We're also thinking about Texas---maybe.
In October we are making the cross-country trip (10,000 miles) looking for a new place to live. We've thought about Tennessee, Texas, Oregon, and Washington. We've heard some good things about those states from people who moved from Jersey to there, and we just wanted to get the skinny on it from you guys.
We're desperate to get out of here, and we'd appreciate any help. Plus, we could sponser apostofests once we're out there!
Worst part of Jersey---6,000 a year for car insurance. Average property taxes 5,500. Price for average cape cod--around 200,000 for a very modest house. The roads are horrible, the jobs and management is horrible. Those are the type of things we are trying to avoid.
