Come on, Corvin....5 words??? ME??
He he, I know. In my family if you used 10 words to say something you could have said in 50 words, you just weren't trying hard enough.
honestly now, either you stand for something, or get knocked down for nothing.
brother, it seems absurd to be hammering pith like a poet with a loss for words.
trying to describe and angels face .

in the earlier days of the wtbts, they played hell with the medical profession and vehemently discouraged jw's or "bible students", if you will, from getting vaccinated.
yes, they said it was a cruel hoax on people by satan.
they said it was of black magic and blah blah blah .

Does anyone have any statistics regarding how many "faithful JW's" lost their lives as a direct result of heading the Society's counsel about vaccinations?

that a very good friend of mine is an xjw.
wow!
what a trip.
English Patient, stop proving my point about you, will ya?
jehovah's witnesses use the number of the mighty 6 million (tm) to "prove" that god is blessing them over and above all other religions.
but with so many being disfellowshipped and leaving over the past decades, how many ex-witnesses are there?
with thousands growing wiser and more dissatisfied with wt doctrine, might the number of ex-witnesses over the years now equal the number of witnesses?
Baptized in 1999: 67,661 Average publishers reporting in 1998: 2,314,309 Average publishers reporting in 1999: 2,300,239
If we combine the figures for 19 major countries, we reach a total of 67,661 baptized, but rather than a growth of equal numbers, the 1999 figures show a decrease of 14,070, meaning that in thos 19 major countries 81,731 left or became "inactive".
Individual reasons for leaving or becoming inactive are anybody's guess.

that a very good friend of mine is an xjw. Wow! What a trip. I always sensed that there was something about her that familiarly peculiar.
While at work last night ( I do some MC-ing and DJ-ing in local clubs) she stopped in with her husband. (As a wedding gift, I dj's their wedding last summer) The two of us were standing outside talking about our kids and one thing lead to another and I disclosed what my kids were going through as a result of being raised in the organization of JW's. She timidly disclosed that she too was raised as one as well.
I will not get into the terrible things she personally went through since those things are very private for her, but she has been through the wringer. I invited her to come join this forum and I believe she will. I appeal to all those here to welcome her with open arms, for she truly is in need of some compassion and understanding.
Best Regards,
Corvin
i have fond memories of reading to my kids each night.
i have a photo at my desk of my son, then 7yrs old, reading to his sister, 3yrs.
in her bed.
I loved reading to my kids! In addition to reading the Bible to them since birth, I read them Where the Wild Things Are. Great book! And also, Oh, The Places You'll Go! Also, I Love You Forever.
My gramma use to say, "when they are babies, they just step on your toes. When they get grown, they step on your heart". I miss my kids as babies.
our eldest son (40) and his wife (37) are expecting their third baby in september (a "surprise" pregnancy.
they got the results of their amnio yesterday and it is another boy.
they have two boys, 10 and almost 4. the ultrasound had given them hope it was a girl, but had an amnio to be sure.. they were disappointed, but my dil had a feeling it was a boy all along, so wasn't too excited about a girl yet.
Yayyyyyyyy! Congrats to you on your new grandbaby.
My oldest is 18. I am 37. I think I will one day soon become a very young grampa.
.
the very act of looking into the future, changes -- indeed, negates -- that future.

Well, think about it. If you had the power to look at what your life will be like 15 years from now, do you honestly think your life would end up that way? Wouldn't the very fact that you know how things would turn out change how you acted in the meantime, thus altering the vision you had?
Not so. You shape your future everytime you make a decision and take an action. Every action is a cause set in motion. A person can stop and take a look at where they are currently, ask themselves what the next five or ten years will be like if they never make any new decisions, any major decisions. If you always do what you have always done, you always have what you always had. In 10 years you will be exactly where you are today and have pretty much an unaltered life if you fail to make new and better decisions.
Just think tho, if you could look into the future and see where you would be if you made certain decisions or took a specific set of actions, would it not be a bit easier to get where you want to go? Boy o boy! The mistakes and pitfalls you could avoid as a result of seeing what will be if you were to take a certain action! What a difference you could make in other people's lives!
Corvin
just wondering....
Being disfellowshipped should be no real shocker. When you took an oath and were baptized you were made well aware at that time that failing to keep that promise would result in being disfellowshiped. It's not as if they are trying to trick you........
Hello Ruby and welcome.
The rules, policies and edicts of the WTBTS are far overreaching into the lives and consciences of its members. They seek and succeed in controlling far too many aspects of a Christian's existence. Jesus told the Jewish leaders that they burden the people with many (man-made) laws aside from God's written law and don't even lift a single finger to lighten their load. The WTBTS has followed suit.
I was disfellowshipped for smoking while one of the elders on the committee to df me was himself a closet smoker and adulterer himself for many years. The WTBTS spends way too much time discussing the technicalities of df-ing offenses the Bible never even touches on, and what policies that are passed down are mostly based on the Governing Body's personal views and preferences.
Anger? You haven't even scratched the surface.
Ruby, why were you disfellowshipped???
i am posting the entire article .
a bit of a read, but those who are so inclined .
comments????.
"Early followers of Jesus Christ took interest in reports of progress in the preaching work. (Mark 6:30) As the work prospered, statistical reports were compiled along with accounts of outstanding experiences of those having a share in preaching the good news. . . . (Acts 2:5-11, 41, 47; 6:7; 1:15; 4:4)
Were statistical reports really compiled in the first century? I can only imagine that reports in progress might have been only the accounts of outstanding experiences.
