It’s a play on words
‘Rice Krispies’It alludes to the fact that many conversions done by the early church missionaries were simply on people who did it for what they could get.
For example the churches had medical care, feeding and teaching programmes that helped the people to help themselves and so it was claimed that those baptized by those missionaries would only stay for as long as those facilities remained and were not truly heart converted christians.I do not agree with these sentiments.
This is just an explanation.

Hi DB
This info was posted by messenger on sat/sun after the elders school
http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/forum/thread.asp?id=16251&site=3
5. New procedure: This was described as a new loving provision from the GB. Reporting time has been adjusted by 45 minutes for elderly and infirm. A person in this category to be determined by the body of elders can turn in a minimum of 15 minutes each month and still be counted as a regular publisher. They may turn in as many 15 minute increments as they can or just one. It was stated this was tested in other foreign countries and regularity increased by 1.6%. Can you believe it? CBSO’s were encouraged to give special attention to the elderly and infirm.

Concerning Santa Claus
by Duncan ini thought id post this now, because firstly were just coming into that time of year, and secondly the thread started by mulan called confession got into this subject and started me thinking.. i couldve posted this as a reply in that thread, i suppose, but i wanted to discuss it separately.
besides, its been months since i saw my name up there in a thread started by capacity, so i thought it was time.
concerning santa claus, then.. the whole christmas issue is, of course, one of the meanest, most joy-denying, life-diminishing teachings in the whole miserable jw mindset.

“A lifetime ago, back in The Truth, I remember an elder discussing these things with me while I was pioneer youth. How terrible these worldly people are! They teach their children a lie! How do you think these poor kids will feel when they realise one day that they’ve been duped? There is no Father Christmas; it’s all a deception! They’ll never trust their parents again! No wonder the whole world is in such a screwed up state when we deliberately teach our kids falsehoods like this! How grateful we can be to Jehovah that….[blah blah]
His argument has always stuck in my mind over the years. I didn’t like it, but I had to admit that it was a powerful argument: “How can you deliberately promote a lie like that? Surely it’s harmful? In what other circumstance could you possibly feel that it’s acceptable to encourage ideas in your youngsters that you knew were not true? You’re sponsoring a falsehood, like the Father of the Lie, Satan.”
It’s an argument used by many Witnesses.
But think about it for a minute.”Good post Duncan.
But after your tale of the elder I really thought you were going to liken it to the GREAT LIES told by the WTBTS.
As you so rightfully say most children realise whilst quite young that Santa is a myth and go on to develop quite normal social lives and skills, but I am afraid this is not true of the many thousands of adults and children who have put their complete trust and lives in the lie about 1975, 1914, stay single, no college, responsible childbearing in this time of the end, cover the dirt in the congs at all cost etc.I totally agree with you. I don’t think the myth/fairy tale of Santa has such a devastating and long-term effect on anyone.
Having said that I don’t know how a sensitive child would react to the idea of a stranger coming into their room whilst they sleep even if that stranger was the benevolent SC/FC but then I have never asked any, maybe others could answer this.My daughter is in a quandary as to how far to go with what she tell her little girl this year, but they always pick things up from other children so maybe the final decision will be taken out her hand.

I seem to remember liking the United book because it made you think-I dont know how I would view it now looking at it with non-dub eyes as I havent read it for years.
I hated the Greatest Man book, dont really know why , maybe it was the way that the studies were set out, it seemed very little material for 1 hour and we were in a group with a high percentage of young children and there is a limit to how much you can talk about the pictures. Also it was led by other half and so I felt I had to cover awkward silences.
That was the first book though that I remember seeing how the society could jump from stating something that was provable from the bible to then making an assumption and pushing it as fact. I cant remember anything in particular at the moment, maybe others noticed things like that also. -

What's everyone doing for Christmas?
by Missie Eff ini'm in a quandry.. came out of the organisation a few years ago, have spend a couple of chilled out christmasses in front of the fire.
no presents, decorations etc, no problem!
but... my little boy is getting older and my ex-husband (my son's father and also an ex-jw) is concerned that he will miss out, just like we did as kids.. but, i am reluctant to do the whole christmas thing.

This is our first proper xmas for 18 years.
We have been slowly withdrawing ourselves from the clutches of the wtbts for the last 3 years and although we are neither da or df we are going to DO xmas this year.
We have bought our tree and lots of decs to replace the ones we threw out 18 years ago. It felt really strange at first to be doing this but I think I am getting the hang of it again, but of course we no longer have little children at home to enjoy it so it isnt quite the same.
Today I made my xmas cake, its cooling on the kitchen table as I type.
We will be spoiling our little grandaughter rotten as its her first xmas as well.
My youngest son was 3 when he had his last xmas so cant remember what it was like but he is looking forward to it as well.
We might even venture to a carol service as we where both brought up in the church and have realised how much we have missed those things.
Although at the moment we dont want to get involved with any organized religion. -
