but it is true.

women will tell you all kinds of things about how they think and what they feel but the average man is too hung up in his own wants and ego to listen.. i will pick just one thing to use as an example.. when the woman you are with talks down to you or throws out a zinger at your expense she is telling you she has contempt for you and no respect!

Why does it have to be gay "marriage?"

i know this a hot topic, but i had some thinking on it i wanted to discuss.

to begin, i have nothing against a gay man or lesbian woman and consider many to be friends.

i would also like to express from the beginning in plain thought, "i think gay unions should be legal and do not see why it matters.".

Yerusalem, I understand what you're saying there

So we should redefine marriage for this small group? Are we also to redefine it for polygamists and incestous marriages. Brothers marrying sisters is far older than men marrying men, but it's not allowed in this country. That's it, let's redefine marriage to mean whatever you want it to mean.

But you can't compare homosexuals to incest. C'mon now. It's the 21st century man!

IMHO men will generally take whatever crap you give them if you are hot, or even lukewarm. If not, well then you just need to be a lot nicer, and sometimes that's not enough.

I really don't see what the big deal is about this. Gays just want the celebration, ritual and ceremony of a wedding and all the legal stuff and to be recognized and not just say "my partner" but say "my husband or wife" or whatever... Why not just let them have this?

I think they're disliked because they are always right, will pound you over the head with their beliefs, but will turn tail and run when engaged in debate or discussion. Nothing is more frustrating to someone who someone who wants an intelligent discussion.

Smugness, moral superiority issues, general superiority issues.

Some people understand it's a cult and get pretty upset about that instead of just laughing about it.

How do you know when you?ve put the Watchtower behind you?

it takes time (usually several years for most folks), to attain a certain level of inner peace about leaving the watchtower society and all its psychological baggage.

it?s a process we all go/grow through and just because you haven?t attained the perfect balance yet doesn?t preclude you from enjoying the success that you have attained, so far.

anyway here are a few i thought of myself.

You?re no longer threatened or intimidated by words like, apostate or Armageddon. You?ve found the balance between hating the Watchtower Society and loving the JW.

I can say I've gotten this far. It's a start!

For right now, though, in order to keep a speaking relationship with my parents and husband, I must stay and pretend. It's an awful place to be; like in between worlds!

I'm right there with Doubtfully Yours on that one.

Liberal Equals Ex-JW

something i've noticed on this board is that there seem to be many more liberal-left types than conservative-right types.

what do you think of my following theories?

in the 70s, many converts to jw-dom were influenced by the anti-establishment philosophy and anti-viet nam war.

I like your hypothesis. I had wondered (concerning my own leftist views) if it's because the right is always using religion to back them up, or they just seem to stand for the same kind of conservative views and attitude I could never stand in my family and the JWs.
