DIM's sister gets busted!

it seems my mom was snooping around my sisters room and happened to come across her diary.

my sister is 14 years old and unbaptized.

my mom decided to read this diary.

Being a Mama, I'm with Yerusalyim and Mulan on this.

Communication is all good and well, however, even good, well-adjusted, teenagers usually don't confide everything to their parents. Especially, if they would disapprove.

However, I don't believe in raiding a kids room and reading a diary for no good reason. I also don't believe that a kid has a "right" to privacy. Especially, when I'm footin the bill and ultimately responsible for their behavior. If I suspect there is a problem, and I'm not getting anywhere with my child, I'ma snoopin. That maybe the only way I can get info to help them. Which would be MY goal by the way.

As far as the JC. I'm getting a sick feeling in my stomach. My heart goes out to your sister. How convenient for your parents to be able to pass off their parenting responsibilities to the elders.

Yet Another New Member

i am yet another new member to the group because, surprise surprise, being a jw makes me miserable.

i have been raised in the "truth" and have been hating it for a very long time.

the congregation that i attend is a snake pit, full of judgemental, brain-washed witnesses who will report your every move.

A Salute to the Kids of Dubdom

as the unfortunate school-age children of jws worldwide, or at least in christendom, face up to two of what must certainly be the most dreaded days of the school year -- today and monday, i don't think it would be remiss to do pay them tribute -- the honor of a brief recognition of some sort, say by the raising of a glass, a prayer, a couple moments' reflection, whatever.. i refer to all those of the trembling knees, quivering lips, moistened eyes and hollow feelings in the pits of their little tummies as they loyally face up to the humiliation of standing aside from the masses of christmas celebrants among their school friends.

how they must agonize over dealing with the incessant questions of their mates about ``what are you going to do this christmas," ``what did santa bring you?

'' -- not to mention listening to the spirited banter of their school friends recounting how much fun they had and what they found under tree christmas morning, etc.

14 Minutes and you are not a Servant of Jehovah

last night we were discussing the "new light" that was revealed to the gb recently from jehovah.

many of us recall all the co talks and elder parts based on the bible text of how a true servant of jah would not be "inactive or irregular" for years one was required to have at least one hour to be considered a servant of jah.. as the sec in my hall i recall so many times calling up friends to get thier time and hearing them break crying cause they didn't have 60min only about 45min- and they knew that it meant they were not servants of jah.

now with the new light from jw a person with only 14 minutes of time will now be disqualified as being a servant of jah.. it is amazing how many jw will view this arrangement as a "loving provision from jah" instead of realizing that thier service to thier god has been reduced to whether they get 15min or 14 min.

I don't think I have ever read such a powerful "visual' illustration of people that have spent their whole lives being JWs. How tightly they cling to the "shopping cart" of tenious JW doctrine. In my own family,for example, they cling so tightly, that they sacrafice the emotional well-being of their children by ignoring signs of serious mental illness.

"Wait on Jehovah to fix it" or "Pray it away" or just plain ignore it. The world's happiest people cannot possibly be troubled, or unhappy, for that matter. To come to the realization that they have been hood-winked, is just too much of an emotional burden to bear.

Even my own Father, who has a long, "colorful" history being a JW, and engages in many behaviors that, if known, would surely get him DF'd (again),yet,he still clings to the core teachings with tight fists and white knuckles. Especially, if it justifies his behavior towards other family members.

Edited to add: Sacrafice the emotional well-being of their children! Duh! Of course, they would! They are willing to sacrafice their very lives by refusing blood. No matter, they will all be together in the new order. (sigh)

Our Anniversary Today

Newbie alert !!! Just wanted to say hello...

i came here by chance...looking for none other than jw material:) i am currently studying with jw's and attend the kh but am not baptized, as are none of the members of my fam...yet.

i've been studying for almost 4 years with the witnesses.

i am confused...that's the simplest way of putting it.

Welcome! So glad you posted

What jumped out at me on your post was talking about the difference between your daughters (raised JWs) and your sons (not raised as JWs).

I had not had contact with all of my JW extended family for nearly 20 years. I literally knew nothing of them. Last year a cousin located me and "the other side" (us worldy folk). When we were able to get together, I was stunned to learn of the depression and mental illness that affects so many of my JW cousins and their children. Those affected literally number in the dozens. One cousin who is bipolar had been told for YEARS to pray it away. She didn't receive appropriate help for many years.

I remember my Mother (who has been out over 30 years) and I looking at each other, because we had been so devastated by all the years of shunning, and retorting to each other, "and all this time, WE were suppose to be the troubled ones!". Granted, I had many challenges growing up (not JW related) and had to overcome some emotional issues myself as an adult, I am just grateful my WHOLE youth was not spent being a JW.

I am in complete agreement with you.

I assure you I am not looking for any kind of pat on the back. I made a grievous error in judgement. I did not expect anyone to respond to me or give me an attagirl. The only reason I did this was because it was the RIGHT thing to do. I didn't want people to wonder about who was the guilty party.

I can also reassure you, Teejay, you cannot say anything to me that I haven't already said to myself. I do not seek yours or anyone elses admiration for doing the right thing.

As far as RC's situation, yes, I have knowledge of it.
