Hey pratt1:
I remember the bliss theater located in Sunnyside Queens, yes they did make a good orange ice cream float. And the food was very decent. However I don?t miss those three day circuit assemblies that ended at 9:00 p.m..
c'mon now, there has to be something... the green carpet or the hard seats?
barn dances?
large social gatherings?

in your congregation, did you ever have macho-wannabes on the microphones, strutting up and down the aisles handling the mikes as though they were aka assault rifles?.
we had a few tossers like this.
in fact, i might even have been one of them.... jonty
I didn?t mind handling the microphones too much, it was better than sitting for two hours listening to mind numbing nonsense. Our kingdom hall had a separate room where the sound was controlled and the records were played. We routinely chill in the sound room completely ignoring the meeting, discussing sports, cars, sisters or whatever. I didn?t consider it a big deal the privilege aspect of it all I know is I didn?t have to sit through those boring meetings.
love_truth, in describing the utter dullness of jw assemblies and conventions, just gave me an interesting idea for a thread.
what were some of the ways you tried to make the hours pass?
some of mine: looking at the interesting refracting patterns the arena floodlights made on my eyeglasses when looking thru them at an angle.looking for people i knew from my congregation and others in the mass of people in the arena.counting the number of people leaving the section to go to the bathroompractice writing people's names in elvish scripthaving a conversation with friends a row behind me by passing notes back and forthseeing how many pages of my bible stick together when i slam a wad of gum in between its pages.. what else?
hey homey
i remember those mind numbing sessions at belmont race track as a kid. i use to the same thing to pass the time. I also use to stare at the irrigation trucks that circled the race track that keep the infield watered. later when i became a teenager i would volunteer for just about any assignment that would keep me from having to sit through those boring talks.
i haven?t posted much in the past.
however, i enjoy reading the many topics.. i would like your thoughts regarding the following:.
after no contact with anyone in my former congregation (aside from being shunning) for the last eight years, i walk into work this morning and check my voice mail to find i have a message from one of the elders.
Thanks again for your responses.
I have to agree with you guys, they really must love me, it took them only eight years to see how I?m doing. When I first listened to the message, I suspected that they were looking something to pin on me. I still live in the same neighborhood that my old congregation is located. I believe they don?t like the fact that I appear happy and started new life apart from the Watchtower.

As much as I would like to stick it to them with the UN issue, it's probably best to not return their call. Like I said in my original post, I could care less of what these hypocrites think. I just don't want to put my mother in the position of choosing.

Hello everyone:
I haven?t posted much in the past. However, I enjoy reading the many topics.
I would like your thoughts regarding the following:
After no contact with anyone in my former congregation (aside from being shunning) for the last eight years, I walk into work this morning and check my voice mail to find I have a message from one of the elders. Basically he said that the friends miss me and he wanted to get together to talk. And also he also invited me to the Memorial. I didn?t realize it was that time of the year. This particular elder and I served as MS together when I was still in, and from what I remember, he was a bit of a kiss @ss and overly pious.
I have been reading some of the posts regarding the elders visiting inactive ones on the pretense of being concern, but actually are trying to find out if you still consider yourself still a JW. I not DF or DA, and I couldn?t care less how they mark their records. However my mother is still in so her sake I don?t give them a reason to DF me. That being said, I would like to meet with these elders and present the latest UN stuff, and ask about the "generation" issue. I realize their motives for seeing me isn?t out of love and I?m sure the "friends" could care less about my well being, I just want to hear how they explain these two issues.
I would like some advice on how to present these topics to them without sounding too confrontational. Any thoughts.
Thanks

I like the answer you get when someone asks "What will happen to the people who are not reached through the preaching of the good news?" You usually hear something to the effect: "Jehovah reads the heart of the good and bad" If this is the case why did we have to waste our time in field service?
