we've had several very interesting threads going on about how those of us who are still on the inside can work to open the eyes of the witnesses at the district conventions this summer.
since people have been making scattered suggestions on scattered threads, i thought we should start a consolidated thread here that lays all the options out on the table for those that want to be a part of it.
here are the ideas that have stood out in my mind so far (please add any that i have missed): .

yesterday's news on apple's transition to intel processors, made me.
nostalgic over the heyday of alternative platforms.
for all my boasting about not really ever buying into either the jws .
tetra,
true. also, considering that their army of OS developers is considerably small compared to some of the opensource OSs. but really, i don't think they have it that hard with the hardware. i mean, if they don't provide a driver built in, the manufacturer almost always does from their web site. or did you mean something other than drivers?
On a continuum, I think writing Mac OS falls somewhere between writing to a console and writing to a PC. With a console (say, the XBox) the developer knows exactly what his software will be running on. There are no questions whatsoever. Can the code perform? Try it. Case closed. Gollum from this board has regaled me with stories of synchronizing sprite drawing with refresh scans when writing for the NES. That is possible only when you know with absolute certainty what hardware will be executing your code.
Apple has done a lot of really cool things in their recent OSes. I think they are able to push the limits a little easier, since there is very little variance in what hardware will be running the code.
Windows, on the other hand (and this is true of *UX as well) has a much more complicated task: write code that will work well across a great diversity of systems. I think that writing the hardware abstraction layers gets more complex.
Then again, I've never written an operating system, so maybe I'm overstating it.

1) Make Windows so that one does not have to wipe the hard drive every once and a while to make it run more efficiently.
Agreed. One of the tough things about writing Windows (as opposed to, say Mac OS whatever) is that it needs to run on any conceivable hardware. When you think about it in those terms, it does a pretty good job. Not to say that they couldn't or shouldn't improve it.
2) Window ME was such a failure. Don't come out with new versions of Window every few years, just to make money. You did a good job on XP, but I don't want to have to buy Windows "Longhorn" considering not much is different. When there is something SIGNIFICANTLY different, get back to me.
Again agreed. Windows ME was really and truly a nothing upgrade. XP was a significant leap forward. With regard to Longhorn, much is indeed different. They have spent six years building a brand new operating system from the ground up (something that hasn't really been done anywhere in the software industry for a very long time. I think Longhorn will be a quantum leap forward.
3) Make a simple media player. I don't like WMP; I'd rather use iTunes.
Can't say I find WMP that complex. I rather like it myself. But to each his own.

Okay, I have to stick up for Microsoft. Having worked there for a few years, I can tell you that they really try hard to fulfill their impossible task of pleasing everyone all the time, and, when all is said and done, they do a pretty good job.
The individual contributors and managers that I know at Microsoft are seriously dedicated to writing solid software. I certainly admit that their marketing tactics have left something to be desired in the past, but on the whole, I think they're a damn decent company.

where to start my rant and rave?
oh where to start, let me see......hmmm.............. well during the school we had the typical fare, i'm sure you're all familiar with it, the " can you do more???

Elsewhere,
I don't out-right attack the WTS, I just talk about things that are good and up building, but totally contrary to what the WTS teaches. Things like respecting other people's religions and how it is wrong to discriminate against people who have a faith different than your own.
This really seems like a highly effective method. I keep imagining myself as a Witness talking to someone like you, and the thing is, when they're in preaching mode, they're all smiley and everything, trying really hard to agree with you on everything they can. So it seems like a great way to get them to agree with you on something that they might think about later.
Here's the conversation I keep seeing in my mind:
Interested Bob: I just really feel like all religious beliefs should be respected.
JW: Definitely. We definitely respect everyone's beliefs.
Bob: So many of the problems in the world are caused by religious people not respecting others' beliefs, you know?
JW: Yes, we totally agree there!
Bob: Like right now you have a lot of extremists of Christian and Muslim faiths who are willing to kill people that don't agree with them!
JW: Terrible! But did you know that God will shortly bring an end to such violence?
Bob: Well, that would be nice. But the thing is, the Muslims and the Christians and the Jews, and everyone else, for that matter, is equally convinced that their religion is true, you know what I mean? Otherwise, why would they bother believing it?
JW: I think you're right about that. How do you suppose we can find the true religion?
Bob: We should do our best to research all the alternatives. But I think in the end we should remain open to the possibility that others have completely valid ideas about spirituality.
JW: (Hesitating, trying to think of politically correct way to disagree) You have a very reasonable way about you, don't you?
Bob: I just think it's a shame when people become so hardened in their own beliefs that they forget that others can have faiths every bit as strong and, from their point of view, well-founded. What do Jehovah's Witnesses feel about this?
JW: Well, we respect all beliefs, but we feel that God has revealed his thoughts in the Bible, and that that is the ultimate source of truth.
Bob: What about people who interpret the Bible differently from you?
JW: I think if you study the Bible carefully, you'll see that there really is only one interpretation possible.
Bob: Is that right!
JW: Yes.
Bob: But haven't JWs changed their doctrines from time to time?
JW: That's true. As we studied the Bible, we came to a greater understanding.
Bob: But the first position you had obviously seemed reasonable, otherwise you wouldn't have had it.
JW: Sure.
Bob: So both positions were reasonable. It's just that you currently find the second position to be more reasonable. You might later find another position that is even more reasonable.
JW: Perhaps.
Bob: So to my mind, the long and short of the whole thing is that from time to time we see things in different lights. Who's to say that another group won't see something before us? That's why I think we should respect all beliefs. They're all trying to do the right thing, after all.
JW: Have you ever seen this publication before? (Pulls the Knowledge book out of his bag)....
...
Sorry, got carried away there. Anyway, great anti-Witnessing strategy! Let us know if you engage anyone this summer!

But what will it accomplish?
When word gets out that so-called apostates are within the ranks of the faithful, ordinary JW paranoia will likely reach new highs. This will do two things: a) It will give thinking people reason for pause, and b) It may bring pressure on the higher-ups, who will be forced to recognize growing unrest within the ranks. Plus, it empowers the poor souls who have been enlightened but have to go for the sake of family to at least have a voice.
But what if JWs are reading this site right now?
Ah, therein lies the beauty of a cult prohibition on opposing information! So what if a JW reads this? Who are they going to tell about it? :-) "You guys, you'll never guess what I read on this aposta -- I mean, um, I heard that -- er...Hey, where are you guys staying for the convention?"
Let's keep this thread near the top of the stack as we move into convention season and let the experiences roll! :-)

at the portland maine district convention that was held this past weekend, brother buck from brooklyn bethel gave the last talk on sunday.
in this talk he mentioned the "millions of people that have left" in the recent past.
he also mentioned them in the concluding prayer.
Yes tetra Total mortality of 85,972 or 1% per annum from 86 to 03
Can you describe how you calculated this? Wouldn't 1% annual mortality be 60,000 per year in recent years? SNG
at some convention sites, there will be protests by apostates.
at other conventions, apostates will covertly slip in and leave messages on cars.
however, not everyone has the fortitude to protest nor the time.
OK. We are still NOT TRYING TO EXPOSE THIS TO THE R&F. We were trying to SCARE the HIGH UPS. That is still the plan. You do not need me to type in some web addresses so you can print them out. You can do that on your own. I am focusing on the check. This is the "campaign" do what you want for extra-curricular apostasy.AAAAAAAA
LOL...Whoa, pardner! No need to get upset here. I was just saying that for anyone who wanted to, it would be a cool additional thing to do. No one's asking you to make scraps of paper in Photoshop. Good work on everything. May the force be with you.

LOL...this is hillarious. I'm cracking up over the Attendant badge. I always thought they were really lame. That's security? All you'd have to do is scan one, go to Kinko's and print it out on 20# paper, and boom, you're an attendant.
Seriously, though, someone suggested leaving scraps of paper with internet addresses written on them on the floor. I think this is a really good idea, since the odds they will be picked up by R&F Witnesses is much higher. If you wrote them on programs, they would almost surely be seen. Maybe after a fake name on the top or something.
