Positive Islamic Thread
by eyeslice inthere has been a bit of stick about the negative comments about islam on this board, so i thought i would start a positive thread.. towards the end of the 90s, i lived for a year in an asian country with a population of over 100 million muslims.
all muslims i came across were honest, decent people.. a couple of years back, i went to work in iran for a couple of weeks.
as a result i had a couple days off at the weekend, which also happened to coincide with a public holiday.

Much is wrong with the culture of the west 74, I agree whole heartedly. We are seemingly to me, some of the most whiny, superficial and artificially sweetened of humans on the entire planet. We would do well to try to incorporate some of the strengths of cultures we are unfamiliar with.
Man is most in fear of that for which he does not understand. There is, however, no excuse for ignorance as we all have access to so much knowledge right at our fingertips.
Not discounting the troubles that are existent within other cultures and religions of others, just not wanting to throw the baby out with the bath water. Ladies, your concerns are truly valid.

Wouldn't it be a great thing if we all could just learn from the beliefs and cultures of everyone, Buhddist, Shinto, Islam, and the wide variety of other religions?
The tower of Babel thing has got me to wondering now, if Jehovah, or whoever really did break us all up in the begining, he must surely have been affraid that if we all didn't stop speaking the same language, that we would advance and propel ourselves through the future at such an incredible entity of humanity, there would truly be no single thing that would be unattainable for humans as a whole.
It is truly a sad thing to see so much positive energy wasted on who's got the best God, when other cultures and religions have such depth, richnes and clarity in the way that practice their beliefs.
As far as Islam is concerned, has anyone ever seen film footage of Muslims who pilgrimage to the Holy City of Mecca, the sea of humanity that swirl around that Kabal or whatever its called, no disrespect, as a unified, singlular entity, all wearing the same type clothing, with no ability to distinguish one man or woman from another, I know not much about their religion, but to witness that on film on the History Channel was a thing absolute breathtaking beauty.

Hi Ticker, your accounts were all quite interesting. Glad you could come out and share as I'm sure you'll be a welcome voice here.
I wasn't raised in the truth but was around it long enough to believe it was the only game in town. Its been a long journey out, as I'm still not totally free, eventhough I have been out of commision for over ten years, the ghost in the hall still have a way of haunting me still, but I'm so much better having found this website. Wish you all the best in your exit strategy.

Letter From President George W. Bush
by prophecor inok so maybe i'm being played but believe it or not, i just got a letter from the president, that's right, the president of the united states of america!!!
he was thanking many of his constituents for supporting him in his campaign.
and get this, unlike the the problems that are resulting from donald rumsfeld's not taking the time to sign the letters, notifying their loved ones of the soldiers deaths, this appears to be written out in his own personal handwriting.

Which Ones Got To YOU?
by Sunspot in.
rather than hijacking lostreality's "question" topic, and frannie's post---i began to think of movies that were particularly moving to me...... there have been many throughout the years, but right off the top of my head i'd have to say "imitation of life" (lana turner), "love is a many splendored thing" (william holden), "the way we were" (barbra streisand) and "evergreen" (barbra streisand) that really made me lose it in the theater.. what movies struck *you* the hardest?.
annie....who should have invested in the kleenex corp)

Scent of a Woman, when Colnel Frank Slade is contemplating his eventual suicide, and Charlie decides to cheer him up by taking him for a ride in a red Ferrari,..... and who winds up getting taken for a ride?
To see Pacino in that car, playing a blind man driving down the back streets of NYC, a man that's portrayed as someone so desperate for happiness, and having found it, at least for that solitary brief moment, I laugh and cry all in the same space at that point of the movie, every time, like clockwork, always has the full strength effect.

It Just Occured To Me...
by prophecor inthat from the very begining, the society starts its indoctrination and seperating you from your regular life and family from day one.
i remember how newly interested ones were strongly encouraged to profess to their churches leaders and others that they no longer are members, to point of having their names removed from memberships.
also the warnings that we may receive heckling from friends and relatives if we continued to study, and how we should come to expect that as being normal.

All this seemingly within the first 3 chapters of the " Truth Book ".
Just like that, there goes another revelation,...why we affectionately refered to being in the organization as " The Truth "
Strange what we choose to remember.
Stranger still what we choose to forget.

Adam was perfect,...Right?
by prophecor inmy wife and i were discussing adam being a perfect creation of god.
we as jw's, have always associated adam with being such, but she tosses me a curveball and does not necessairily agree to the standard jw theology.
she believes that had adam been perfect, the sins of the fathers would never have been visited upon his children, we would never have been locked out of paradise and all the ills of this world would never have been an issue.

p Whoa,...Just Joking Right, had to do with my opening statement " Contrary to Rumor.......Giggilos get....That's all. Giggilos Get Lonely Too was a popular song by " The Time ".
Trust me, no offense taken whatsoever.
I'm glad that you view her comments as having such validity, as she has been extremely instrumental, encouraging me to take a more critical and objective view of the things we as witnesses have always been taught. Though I never considered that maybe other JW's have had similar ideas as well.
The fact that she was brought up in the Church continues to amaze me asto ways in which she stirs my thinking, as JW's have always regarded Church dogma and everything pertaining to Christendom as coming straight from the Devil.
Her outlook and opinions have been most profound as I could never think of some of the reasoning she uses, and what's more, much of it is so simple and clear to the point, that if I could just remove the blinders I've inheirited from having been JW, I could see even clearer, even sooner.
As regards the avitar, yes, that is the infamous Morris Day. Do I look like him in reality? Only in my wifes wildest dreams!!!

With me, I gravitate between the two extremes, I either have very little to say, or don't know when to just shut the ---k up!
Though guilty of writing long whinded dissertations, I sometimes have difficulty getting thru long whinded dissertations of others.
But I do, honestly y'all, I really, really do read them.
I try to break my thoughts up in spaces that give the reader a chance to catch my breath, without keeping my entire train of thought compressed in a singularly long paragraph.
As you can see, I'm already becoming too wordy with this as it is. In closing however, I try to use type print such as this because it has some flare, and adds a little more personality to the sometimes dull and boring invisible man behind the freeboard.
So there. That's my story, and I'm sticking to it.
