What if caffeine was banned for JWs?
by undercover ina post about caffeine and coffee in the "what if the wts banned alcohol" thread jogged my memory.... back in the 70s sometime (i can't remember if it was pre-75 or post-75) a rumor started circulating around our area that at the next convention the wts was going to add caffeine and caffeine products (coffee, coke, etc) to the list of banned substances (tobacco, blood).
of course, it never happened, but for a couple of months the rumors were hot and heavy.
the rumors were easily believed by a lot of the dubs because of the "up" effects caffeine can give you and besides, the mormons banned it, there had to be a reason.

Is China just Satan's home and his people?
by free2beme ini remember being told that the end would not come until everyone has had a chance to hear god's message.
yet as we know, the witnesses have not been able to get into china with any real organized movement.
for a long time, we expected some amazing change to happen there, much like we saw when the soviet union fell.

The most current comment I’ve heard on this subject is that not necessarily every individual will have the “Good News” preached to him or her before the end comes. In fact, with many new people being born every minute how could this happen? The standard JW answer to this question is “Jehovah knows what is in peoples hearts”.

Letter from the WTBTS
by sammielee24 incan anyone tell me how long i might have to wait - in general - for a letter from the watchtower?
i sent them 2 different letters in regards to some questions that i have and i just want an idea of how long to wait until i send a follow up.
in actual fact i'm not even expecting them to respond but how long do i give them?

I've written two letters to the WTS and received responses in about eight weeks time on both. Maybe it depends on the subject of your letter, mine were about loss of privileges without an explanation from elders and about circumstances resulting from a divorce.

I don’t see how this person’s perversion can in anyway be laid at the feet of the WTS. Child Molesters come from all walks of life and religious affiliations. I’m not defending this creep but again there is not an automatic connection with JWs and the wrongs that individuals commit.

We are all lacking in Faith!
by The Truth inwhere do i begin?
well let's see i'm 24yrs old and since i was 5 i've been taught ''the truth'' i remember going to the hall when i was a little girl with my grandmother i attended did the bible study and i learned a lot and i'm greatfull even though i'am no longer in the religion i grew up like everyone else saw and learned a lot of other things of this world none which have made me belive anything i have found myself asking lately what is happening with this world?
why doesn't doesn't jehovah do something and stop the pain for everyone?

If the same person begins to look for evidence that creation sprang from nothing, she will tend to find evidence to support that as well.
Huh? If creation sprang from nothing, where's the evidence that this is true. I looked for the evidence and found NOTHING!

Will your congregation exist in 50 years?
by truthseeker infifty years is a long time.. do you think your congregation that you did/are associating with will exist then?.
the probability may exist that for congs.
of elderly publishers, they will either have to merge or disband.

No, I don’t believe my congregation or any others will exist in 50 years. With the current world situation (impending energy crisis, mid-eastern wars, and growing danger from rogue nations with nuclear capabilities, environment issues, etc.) the world 50 years hence will be a greatly changed place (maybe a burnt out cinder). This is of course an optimistic outlook.

PO said automation and declining contributions reason for Bethel layoffs
by truthseeker inlast week at the meeting, the po, who has very close connections to bethel, said that he never thought he would see the day that bethelites were being sent home.
he said that the biggest two reasons he thought bethel were cutting back, was automation and a massive decline in contributions.
looks like you're right metatron about the contribution aspect being their achilles heel.

As commented on by other posters, I remember hearing an Elder say from the platform (in 1970s) that Jehovah’s backing of the WTS was evidenced by the fact that all donations were voluntary. He said that if the Society ever had to ask for money it would show that it was no longer the organization that Jehovah was using. Do ya’ll suppose this explains the WTS’ current financial woes?

Has being a Jehova's witness totally shattered your faith?
by Silvia Plath injust because the watchtower society is wrong doesn't mean that there is no god, nor does it mean there is a god.
it would interesting to now how former members have adjusted thier cosmology, or whether they are now atheists and why.
i personally see religion as a more personal matter, rather than belonging to an organization.

I needed to stop being a dupe and put a lot more faith in my own brain and thinking ability
The above says a lot!
Having my eyes opened to the truth about the WTS and its’ methods of controlling its members has not diminished my faith in God at all. I still accept many of the WTS’ views or explanations of what the Bible teaches but do not feel compelled in the least to accept it all. You echo my thoughts with regard to our faith must be in God and not men or an organization (or course since I’m still a JW I keep this opinion to myself and a few select others). The WTS as well as all other religious organizations are accountable to God for what they teach, so I don’t worry about justice being eventually served.

Ted Jaracz a molester?
by Confession ini've seen little bites about this for over a year.
i understand that somewhere there is a video in which a woman named pat garza publicly accuses wts governing body member ted jaracz of having molested her as a child.
does anyone have this video?

Am I the only one here who thinks this is a cheap shot?
No sir Willyoman! I also believe this is a cheap shot. JWs who read these types of personal attacks are going to hold every thing they read on this site as suspect and that is a shame since there is plenty of credible information to be found here.

That is the problem with child molestation accusation, the accusation has as much power as truth, even if it may not be. Most people just assume it is from the beginning.
This is a favorite accusation of ex-spouses and yes, whether true or not the mere accusation has ruined many a reputation.
