Someone once tried to tell me how similar Christianity and Paganism was but I wouldn't listen..I "knew better". Then I started to research Paganism and realized how many parallels there are.

What is the difference between Christianity and Paganism?
by CruithneLaLuna inrecently i had the opportunity to read the first three or four chapters of a very interesting book: the jesus mysteries : was the "original jesus" a pagan god?
i regret that circumstances prevented me from completing my reading.
i may choose to purchase a copy of this book for my personal library, and so that i can finish reading it.

Well I was ragged on for not commenting enough, didn't really understand the material. I thought it was rather boring and such. Though there are a few people I know who are in love with the books. How the prophesy really strengthens their faith and how "grateful" they are to the "faithful and discrete slave" because there is no way they could ever hope to understand the books without them.

Do jws realise the amount of control the watctower has over them?
by Gadget ini was talking to my ex-girlfriend today, and we got on about the witnesses.
she refuted how much control the watchtower has over each witness, saying that the watchtower is only a guide as to what to do, everybody has to make their own mind up.
is this a general view of witnesses?
-

They don't realize it at all. Or if they do they think their conscious is the one who is controlling them. They see everything from the watchtower and the bible as being one and the same. They think nothing of the small ways they conform in every day life.

Yeah the usual reminds. Continental breakfasts are not for taking to the assembly as your lunch and coffee provided is not for filling up thermoses. And parents have to keep their children under control to present a good witness..

What Ways Did You Rebel Against The Elders & The "Truth"?
by minimus ini used to get a kick out of how some people used to push the elder's buttons.
sisters would wear a dress that was 1 inch above the knee just to get the brothers going.
or brothers would grow something a little longer than a mustache......what did you do to exert your independence??

Hmm we had a school spirit day today I was half tempted to get my hair sprayed blue (it washes out) and say it wouldn't come out and go to the book study like that. (It's my last book study ever woohoo). But alas I didn't do it. Maybe she would have made me stay home. Or maybe I could have worn a hat and conducted the meeting

Not giving the org a bad name
by seattleniceguy ini've been out of the org in mind for three months (formally for only two weeks) but i find that i often feel that old familiar impulse to supress myself if i start to say something that could be construed as negative to the organizaton.
do you still feel that?
like, i might hesitate to tell my neighbor that i didn't associate with my dad for six years because of the df/da policy.

Equipped to Be Better Teachers, high - light 2004 Yearbook
by Blueblades inpage 15,16,17. both jehovah and his only - begotten son------"the word"---place a high value on communication.
( john1:1,14; rev.19:13 ) reflecting that same view, the faithful slave class continues to work hard to help god's people improve their preaching and teaching skills.with that goal in mind, jehovah's organization prepared the book benefit from theocratic ministry school education.many publishers have expressed their appreciation for this textbook since its introduction into the theocractic ministry school in january 2003.. "there is no other religious group that cares so much about helping its members, both young and old,to communicate effectively,"wrote an elder n the philippines.an elder in brazil said:"for me,january 2003 was a teaching milestone in the history of jehovah's witnesses.
"another stated:"i have noticed that the younger ones in the congregation are showing more interest in participating in the school.some have read the textbook from cover to cover and completed all th exercises-----all this before the material has been considered at the school !

How the Society have failed our youth
by truthseeker inwhen you think of how much talent and creativity young people have, isn't it a shame that the watchtower bible & tract society has done absolutely nothing for the development of young people?.
they can print a'young people ask' article on the use of cellphones, they can produce a video on how to make friends, and they can release a glossy tract about what will youths do with their life, yet they do nothing to promote 'youth' in the organisation.. generation after generation of young people are subjected to 5 boring meetings a week, an endless supply of doors to knock on and an endless amount of literature to read, study and mediatate on.. i'm not sugessting for one moment that all jw youths/young adults are miserable and bored in the organization.
some seem to have gone through life with ready made friends in their congregation, no bullying at school, steady jobs and some sort of 'career' in the organization, whether it be pioneering or bethel service.. but there is a saying that ignorance is bliss and this is true of the religion a lot of us were raised in.. how may churches do you know have services for young people?

The social gatherings are a joke. Hardly any music is approved, everyone brings food that is definitely not catering to the young people, dancing creates a scandal no matter how it's done. Unless you're an elder's kid and get the "privilege" of going to other congregations when your father has a talk you rarely meet too many youths from other congregations. And there are no official programs because anything that could be gained by them pales in comparison to the "marvelous religious education" that is being given.

Still other voices were heard, but these began to proclaim an impending invisible return of the Messiah. One of these groups was led by George Storrs of Brooklyn, New York. He and his associates after 1870 published a magazine entitled The Bible Examiner, setting forth their views that Christ?s return would be an invisible one. Another group headed by H. B. Rice of Oakland, California, published a magazine called The Last Trump, heralding an invisible return as occurring in the 1870?s. A third group comes to our attention, this time of disappointed Second Adventists who forsook that movement because of the failure of the Lord to return in 1873 as the Adventists had further predicted. This group was led by N. H. Barbour. They radiated their activities from Rochester, New York, performing a preaching service by sending out speakers to whatever churches would open their doors to them. They also published a monthly, The Herald of the Morning. One of this group came into possession of B. Wilson?s Diaglott translation of the "New Testament," noticing in it that, at Matthew 24:27, 37, 39, the word the King James Version rendered coming is translated presence. This was the clue that led this group to advocate an invisible presence of Christ, claiming it began in the fall of 1874.
Watchtower 1955, Jan 1, Part 1: Early Voices (1870-1878)
12. According to an inaccurate chronology that had been worked out from the King James Authorized Version Bible, Russell calculated that Christ?s "presence" had begun in the year 1874 C.E., unseen to human eyes and seen only by the eye of faith. This was why, when he began publishing a new religious magazine in defense of the ransom sacrifice of Jesus Christ, Russell entitled it "Zion?s Watch Tower and Herald of Christ?s Presence." However, events on earth since the end of the "appointed times of the [Gentile] nations" have been fulfilling Bible prophecy and prove that the promised "presence" or parousia of Christ in Kingdom power began first about October 4/5, 1914 C.E. Only since then has it been correct to speak of the invisible, royal "presence" of Christ as being in effect. We older folks of seventy or eighty years of age have seen come to reality practically all the things predicted by Jesus Christ in answer to the question submitted to him by his apostles
