Arrrgh!!
I still stand by what I said though. The WTS probably gets most of their ideas from this board anyways. They are reading this thread right now thinking, "By joe, I think they are on to something here."
Bastard!!
i've just learned from a trusted contact at thewatchtower.org 'norris', that the society intend to put a resolution to the congregations shortly - though definately not at the 'special talk' meeting next month.. here's the scary bit.
this resolution needs to be responded to by all baptized jehovah's witnesses.
we have not been able to get hold of the wording but have been informed it is intended to provide the brotherhood with the opportunity to affirm their loyalty to jehovah and his organization.

The WTS is losing and they know it. That is why the lines in the sand are being drawn. They need to see how many "true" soldiers they have on their side.
Think about it - How many witnesses WILL sign simply due to group conformity pressure? The pressure of losing thier friends and family is too great if they are not already prepared for it. Peer pressure worked on 90% of us in our teenage years, didn't it? Now that we're grown and have ties to even more friends and family, we have much more to lose. How did you feel about having your blood card signed at the book study? Did you tell your conductor that you would do it on your own? Or did you participate with the group as was expected of you to do? Face it, many witnesses want to be accepted by other witnesses and they will do whatever is necessary to gain that favor.

The problem with these so-called "resolutions," is that most witnesses could give a flip about them. It goes in one ear and out the other. There is no punch delivered with these resolutions. But with this resolution, it could all change. Actually signing your name to something is different than just clapping your hands or yelling out with 30k people saying, "Yes!"
This could be yet another way for WT Legal to avoid suits in the future. It could also null out the pre and post-1985 baptismal questions that many people on this board talk about. You never signed anything regarding your baptism. All that was needed was two "yes's" in front of witnesses. But what if you didn't say 'Yes' out loud? You may now have your chance...

You know, if this topic was posted a few years ago, I would probably just dismiss it as highly speculative rumor. But with everything that has happened over the last year, including over the last few months, this *feels* like it could indeed happen. It fits perfectly with their agenda as of late.
The first thing that came to mind was to inform everyone related to you and close friends who may still be witnesses. Just mention this rumor in passing, but don't make it out like it WILL happen. Word it in a way where it sounds like only a cult would do such a thing - give them time to agree with you. Make them think that the Society would never do such a thing. When the time comes, and if this does turn out to be true, they will be shocked beyond belief. Then ask them if they plan on reaffirming their position with the Society, or if they believe it feels too cultish as you talked about earlier. Make them think about why the Society is doing this.
I'll be watching this thread with interest over the next few months.

In a week or two, the mods might want to change the thread title to:
"Guess who's suing now?"
sorry folks if i missed this somewhere before, but isn't nisan 14 supposed to line up with our current calendar on april 23rd?
i didn't go to the memorial last night so i do not know if they tried explaining this difference.
i always thought that nisan 14 was the date that they used to celebrate the memorial.
I have gone back and calculated the dates that the JW's have held the memorial along with the Jewish dating and here is what I found. There is a definite 19 year cycle where the JW's do not follow the Nisan 14 date. 2005, 1986, 1967, etc. Even in these past years, JW's have referenced the Jewish dating system as is shown here for 1967:
*** w67 3/15 p. 163 You Are Invited ***
Since the day that took place, according to the Bible, was Nisan 14 on the ancient Jewish calendar, faithful Christians have endeavored to keep it on that specific day of the year and in the very way Jesus instructed. This year Nisan 14 corresponds to our March 25, after sundown.
So the question remains, are JW's following their own "jewish" calendar system or the actual one of the Jews? Because when they say that "Nisan 14 corresponds to...March 25, after sundown," they are not following the Jewish calendar.
It must be one of those pick-and-choose ideas they are so good at.

Regarding the Feb. 2005 KM, nevermind. I just found my wife's copy, and in all 8 pages not one reference is made to Nisan 14. This entire KM is basically dedicated to the memorial and the preaching work surrounding it. But not one mention on how March 24 was conceived.

the new moon was observed at 1110 AM on 10 March 2005 and will next be seen at 1132 PM on 8 April 2005. Apparently the Society has picked the new moon before the spring equinox to start their calander, which leads to their putative Nisan 14 on 24 March 2005.
It does indeed appear that they jumped the gun...
Does anyone have a copy of this year's KM that shows the date/time of the memorial? Usually, they make mention of Nisan 14 in the announcement - I was just wondering if they referenced Nisan 14 this year too.
i just received an email that said mj attended the memorial in solvang last night.
he attended with his mom and dad and also his son.
this info was forwarded to me via 2 others but i saw the original email so i think it's probably true.
With the media hounds following his every move, I doubt he attended the memorial. Or else we would have read or seen it by now on a news site.

So every so often the Passover and the Memorial (and Good Friday/Easter) will be about a month apart.
Nice explanation Blondie. But what concerns me is that the JW's are so paranoid about keeping the NISAN 14 date. They make no mention, that I can find, regarding the dating system that you explained. Ever since I was a kid, all I remember was Nisan 14 Nisan 14 Nisan 14. They were more concerned with keeping true to the original dating method that the Jews used back in Jesus' day, not how it evolved into what we use today.
