I agree with you, her words show an ignorance of what Wicca is. She probably just said it to rabble rouse her voting pool. Politics is disgusting.

What wrong with being a witch?
by free2beme inas someone who is wiccan, i do not have a problem with someone in politics like o'donnell saying she did witchcraft in the background.
however, i must say, i think she is full of crap.
as if she did 'date a witch' like she said ... she would not have had her first date on a 'satanic alter.

I've found that acupuncture works well, but I do that for other issues. It just also makes me very sleepy. Massage can help if you are stressed or tense -REAL massage not "Haha $5 Happy Ending..."
Breathing issues like apnea can sometimes be helped with exercise, weight loss or even a dentist fitted mouth piece, but that is not absolute and I'm not saying you have weight problems -I mean I'm a "big guy" so I'm not pointing fingers.
My sleep issues are caused or aggravated by anxiety and emotional disturbance and depression.

Nice creative writing, do you truly have insomnia? I've had insomnia and sleep deprivation since I was 14, so I feel for you.

Do you ENJOY these endless theism/atheism - faith/reason - creation/evolution debates?
by nicolaou in.
sure i get frustrated when i have to explain for the bajillionth time just why atheism is not a belief or why it is possible to know some things with 100% certainty but despite all the exasperations i still count it as one of the rewards of freeing my mind and exiting the wt that i can argue so endlessly and freely.. even if some of you do get on my tits sometimes .

No, not really.
I agree with snowbird. It really gets nowhere. Although, I do appreciate understanding where another persons viewpoint stems from, debating it, is pointless.
I agree. I like to try to understand other's thoughts or reasons, even if I disagree with it.
I am not a fan of In-Your-Face and emotionally charged confrontation, I feel it is unproductive.

How Far Should We Allow Religious Rights to Go?

"An it harm none, do what ye will."
I don't think this is about religion, but i think this lady is trying to make it such. If she's Hindu, she believes in reincarnation, so shut up and plant a new tree.

Why didn't we ever study "Mankind's Search For God"?
by gubberningbody inwas there an official or unofficial reason that anyone knows of?.
it seems to me that pretty much every publication was studied at the book study, but we never did that one..

It's ad hominem, darkuncle, not add hominem.
But I suppose you might consider that ad hominem too, whereas I consider it to be an indication of how I need to keep an eye on myself as well since the Dunning-Kreuger effect also indicates that highly competent people like myself far too often rate themselves lower than they ought.
Thank you for correcting my spelling, no I don't consider that an AD HOMINEM attack.
Dunning-Kreuger effect also indicates that highly competent people like myself far too often rate themselves lower than they ought.
Now that is interesting. I know that I am far less competent than I used to be -I'm sure you would agree. I think that a lot of times, negative internal dialogue gets to many otherwise perfectly competent people. I try to approach the idea with humility and personal honesty; I know that there are skills or knowledge that are out of my area of proficiency and I accept that.
As for Incompetent people who rate themselves too high, i think a good example of that is most of the tryouts for American Idol. I'm not talking about the ones who make it to Hollywood or where ever. I mean the ones who are painful to whatch, they think they are talented or very good, when in truth they suck. That they suck is not what is sad, that they lack personal awareness and can not honestly see their lack of ability in one area is sad. And that should be "ok", as they may have areas where they are talented and that talent could be used.
I apologize for being a rude a$$ earlier, but I still honestly believe that my congregation and possibly circuit or district studied the book.

That is just a fancy add hominum attack (as it is used here).

Atheists - Do you ever talk to God?
by AK - Jeff ini scream out sometimes.
am i angry at a 'being' that i don't think exists?
or the embedded concept?.

oops..
I think the term "God" has been so corrupted and hijacked that it can not be rehabilitated. I do not believe in the Bible TradeMark God, at all.
My current beliefs are barely that, they are too abstract and I am poor at elucidating them. I believe that the universe is itself aware, very loosly like the "God" idea, but i do not think the universe is any way the bible god/allah/yahweh.
I sometimes talk outloud to myself and sometimes direct that dialoge outward, not expecting an audible reply -- and i don't get one. I think that is just thinking out loud maybe.
