In Memory of Puternut
by Nosferatu inafter reading the news about puternut, i decided to compile some of his posts into one, so we can all share in his memory.
there are many ups and downs listed below, but i ended it off with a post he made to all of us who helped him during his difficult times.
puternut is starting his life over, because i had nothing left, and needed to move on.

In all fairness, to a person who has never been a JW or is not familiar with them, we all probably sound like alarmist nuts. But to that same person I'd say, "Do you really want to risk your child's happiness?" For the sake of 'being nice' will you risk your child? I sure as hell wouldn't.
You can tell by the replies that this is an emotionally charged issue, we all feel strongly about this, please understand that most of us aren't here to hurt yourfeelings but our responses may be stronger than you are acustomed.
Good luck.

The Spread of Muslims in Europe
by serotonin_wraith inthe spread of muslims in europe.
it seems inevitable that a hundred or two hundred years from now, the majority of people in europe will be muslim.
this is based on the number of children they are having compared to non muslims, and the presumption that they will be told from a very early age they are muslim too, and taught to believe the same things as their parents.

Kaboom Shamus!
I think the real issue is deeper, more sublte. It is my opinion, that it is not a persons beliefs that 'make them' do bad things, their beliefs are just a crutch or tool that they use to convince themselves...to diengage their conscience if you will...and then they can carry aout un-human acts.
So in my mind it doesn't matter who they are or what they believe. Muslim. Christian. (extremeists of either sort) Nazis (which is originally a short form of the German word for Nationalists) Communists. These lables of ideologies are just a tool, like a gun. It is the person behind the trigger, who pulled the trigger who is to blame, who bears full responsibility.
Almost any tool (belief system?) can be perverted into a weapon to do harm to others. Instead of saying that 'Muslims are bad mmkay', we should be standing firm in the notion that harming others is Not ok. But I also don't believe in pure pacificm either. I believe that any group that is purely pacifist, isn't really centered in reality. They can believe what they want, but when bullys -of any ideology- come at them, well then what? Then they are the gazelle, and the lion will eat them. I believe that a group can be for peace, and still defend themselves-lethally if nessesary.
I also believe that this whole issue of terrorism is just wool being pulled over our collective eyes to distract us from deeper more urgent issues. Terrorism is real, and needs to be addressed, but it is just a surface symptom and one that maskes a deadlier problem.

Maybe a dialoge with ex-muslims and comparing those findings with anti cult techniques (Steven Hassan) could be useful. I think eat cult or extreme group has a unique mindset that underlies the common cult traits, and addressing that psychologically may help some free themselves.
Live and let live is a nice sentiment, but you have to keep a whatch on rabid dogs. And one must be ever so careful not to become one too.
Islam/Christianity...its all kool aid, just different flavors.

Is the Bible Just B.S.?
by shamus indo you think that god enjoys killing people?
it sure sounds like it to me; jw doctrine more or less scared me into thinking that god is going to kill all persons whom he/she thinks is not doing his will.
my question is, how can god kill someone for not being "christian", or following the bible out of sheer ignorance?

Thinking about going GFCF (gluten "wheat" free and casein "milk" free)
by mrsjones5 infor the sake of my youngest son joshua who has autism specturm disorder.
it would mean overhauling my family's diet but i think it would be worth it.
i've found a few websites that look helpful like this one: http://www.gfcf-diet.talkaboutcuringautism.org/index.html and it seems encouraging and doable.. is anyone dealing with this dietary issue?.

I was doing a gluten free diet for a while to see if that would help with skin problems. It didn't for me. But I did learn how dificult it is to try and eat healthy. I would recomend as varied a diet as possible so you don't get bored. When you read to educate yourself, keep a journal and list your sources, you may want to come back to them. If you find recipees also keep a journal of them, and when you try them make notes on whether your family liked it or what might make it better. Eventually your food prep will hopefully find its groove, but never stop learning or adapting new ideas. Are you consulting with a naturpath or dietician?
Good luck.

please please for the sake of your child and future happiness, follow the previously given recomendations. If you have never been a witness, you are really walking into a nasty trap.

The Awakening
by darkuncle29 ini don't remember where i found this, could have even found it here.
i don't remember reading it before, and i know i didn't write this.
i still think it is profound though.

Just bmping this, thought some might want to see it. The argument/discussion is old, it doesn't need to be rehashed, but the initail topic The Awakening, is what I mean to bring back to the top.
I was thinking of oompa, doesn't need or want hugs, but a kick in the ass won't do either. Some say that ignorance is bliss, knowledge can hurt, but in the end would we really want to be naive and clueless?
