Stacy, I am so glad you had a wonderful time in Maui. I do hope one day to get to at least one of the Hawaiian islands. I've been saving it to go with someone special (had invites with girlfriends that I didn't go on)....
When I first read about your little note about being engaged all I could think was.. DETAILS?? WE NEED DETAILS!!!
You gave us a few more.. but the romantics in us would love to hear more...
but even without.. all the congrats and happiness that can come your way are sent!!!!

Joy from Death ... A Daughter's Remembrance
by outnfree infirst, i want to thank those of you who learned of my mother?s recent death and quietly sent messages of comfort without violating my need to keep the event unknown to the board in general until a time of my choosing.
that time is now here.
i had, of course, written here

((((((((((((((((Brenda)))))))))))))), so sorry to hear about your loss. I am glad that you have found some help through this time. I myself after having only come out of the WTS this past year, find myself afraid of what happens at and after death. I would like very much to believe these things you felt reasons to put faith in. I have been with ones to their death (my grandmother and my ex husbands grandmother) and I find some of what you said familiar with their last days. I will have to give it some thought.
Most of all, I send you love and care during this time. Thoughts with you, Sassy

JW Family Birthdays
by dh ini just got an email from my mom (who's a jw) telling me that my grandma (who's roman catholic) turned 77 yesterday, she said i should call because my grandma would be happy to hear from me.
this might seem normal in a non-jw household, but it's the first time it's ever happened in ours, what struck me is that being raised a jw i'd never been told when my relatives birthday's were and conditioned not to ask.. it's been years since i left and i've never given it a second tought, but suddenly i feel pretty small for not knowing... my grandma, being catholic was the only one in my family who even acknowleded our birthdays, at one point when we were kids we weren't allowed to see our grandparents at all because they weren't jw's, it's insane.. to this day i still don't know when my mom and dad's birthdays are, i am not even 100% sure what years they were born in.. is this normal?.

It is strange that your mom suggested it when she is a JW.. but.. if your grandmother is not a JW, and you are not a practicing one, it might mean a lot to her to hear from you.
I wrote my sister who has been dfd for many years to email me the birthdates of my dad and brother and sister. Having been raised a JW I have no idea when my family who is not (or no longer) JW celebrate their birthdays.. I'm trying to catch up!

What do you disagree with the Disfellowshipping policy?

I think when a person makes a mistake and needs help, the last thing that should be done is give him/her the boot and take away your family and friends. What kind of love is that?
What upsets me most about it, is the shunning of family members. It isn't natural to divide families and I don't think a God of Mercy intended it to be that way.

SEX: As a JW, Were you ever thisclose to having sex and then chickened out?
by Funchback inas a jw, were you ever thisclose to having sex and then chickened out?
being raised (since the age of 7) as a jw, i grew up very frustrated sexually.
everything about sex carried a heavy burden of guilt.

I was pretty good most of my life being a JW. A couple times I was with a brother and some kissing, etc began and i worried when was the time to stop and say NO, we can't go farther, but they always seemed to read my mind and quit just about the moment before I could open my mouth and say my conscience couldn't take any more..
Then later after gettting divorced, I did get into trouble with worldly guys. The first was a guy I met on line who told me he was a JW and he knew I wanted to behave, knew what it was like to be a JW since he was raised around them (his family was), but he had no itention of not having sex.. and well.. I didn't end up saying no.. I guess that was the begginning of my slide out of the WTS, even though it took years longer to completely pull me out.

Can I ask a question that I just can't seem to get out of my head? Do you personally know the person you received the email from (the originator who says they personally have a friend's mother who is ill)? If this is for sure for real, it is a wonderful idea. I just can't seem to get out of my head other scams in the past that were similar in nature, like a child dying of cancer who just wanted book marks sent and email were sent around and to find out it was a hoax and not real. Lady Lee, I trust you, the one who sent you the email, do you personally know her? and is she the one who personally knows this one who is ill?
