Is Anyone Here Going To Do The Thanksgiving Thing?
by Stephanus innot being familiar with this tradition at all, i've always found it fascinating (and on my to do list if i ever win the "big one" .
nb we merge the family get together and meal with the present giving at christmas time.
we also usually tend to have more than one christmas dinner - one, the hot one at lunch time with one set of relatives, then the other, cold christmas dinner leftovers in the evening with anohter set of relatives.

Time zones and people here
by JH inthis board is used by people of all around the world.
while we get up, others go to bed.
are there some posters you would like to know better, but the time zones seem to make it difficult?

Fortunately (and unfortuantely) for me, I sometimes end up with insomnia at any hour of the night so I tend to run into friends to talk to at any hour.
I guess at times like those, it is nice to know people in different time zones.
sns and I are on the same wave lengh,
hmmm.. that might be dangerous to admit that Morty.. lol -

Marking.
by Englishman ini've heard the expression a few times here but have normally not taken much notice.
i've been exited for 31 years and 4 months, well before the onset of elders, reproofs and marking.. i understand the first 2 but am all at sea about the the third.
someone please tell me exactly what "marking" is and how one becomes marked or a marker.. or markee!

Perfect example of marking. And then the followup need for gossip for people to figure out why that talk was given.
Usually when there was a talk of this type, they called it a local needs talk. Well, if there was a talk on a certain problem or weakness or wrong doing, it became part of the local needs talk and yes, if you could figure out who it was about, pretty much you knew they were telling you to watch that one and not spend too much time there. If it wasn't obvious, then you start talking to others in the hall, no doubt gossiping about a whole lot of other people who aren't even involved and we all know how the telephone game is. Who knows what things end up being said that aren't even true all from a local needs talk.

I am loving the buying of stuff.. I have had so much fun getting pretty decorations for all over the house. I'm so excited to get the tree up and all the new pretty ornaments. My bf said to me the other day, I don't want a present. I was like HUH? He said, well you know I was raised Muslim and so I don't believe in Jesus, so why would I celebrate it. At first I didn't say anything but then brought it up yesterday. I asked him if I couldn't buy just a little present???? and he said why? I don't believe in Jesus again. I said well I don't believe Jesus was born on December 25th. I know the pagan background of Christmas but for once I really want to be able to buy presents and share with friends and decorate the house all up in December.. enjoy the snowmen.. and snowflakes.. and glitter pointsettas.. and MISTLETOE..
so now I am a little sad.. my little tree with all its pretty ornaments will end up presentless under neath it I guess.. If I can't buy him a present.. no doubt he won't be buying me one..
it is going to be a sad.. but very pretty tree..
Ironic.. all these years I wanted to celebrate.. and I am still with a non believer in Xmas..

there we go.. another example of love..
It almost relies on the gossip to work,
exactly.. and gossip is also supposed to be taboo... something one can be disciplined for.. -

Lots of times I will be online just starting to talk to someone from across the world and then I'll hear, Hey, I'd love to talk longer but I have to get some sleep....
so.. yeah.. the time zone issue can be a pain.. especially when we are so spread out everywhere!

Those scary apostates outside conventions with banners and megaphones...
by dolphman inremember those people?
my mom would tell me to not even look at them.
they had bullhorns, banners, waving at us as we walked in.

They have always been around the conventions I've attended. I remember being a little afraid of them. I guess like we were warned about not reading apostate literature and how dangerous it was, we were also told to stay away from them because they might do something to you. As if they were crazy and the fear they might do something crazy to us, hurt us somehow. Now I can only admire them. I know I haven't got the guts to do it.
