Well, I suppose an introduction is in order
by Enishi ini've been lurking on this site for the past two months and just now decided to post.
i was raised a witness, and got baptised only a couple years ago.
however, shortly after my baptism i started having doubts, and began to suffer from low self esteem.

Satanic music or not (Opeth) - boundaries of JW listening material
by Frantic inas you may or may not know, some jw elders may resent some of their music thier children may listen to.. put simply, a 'death growl' is often viewed as a warped version of satan.
the band opeth use such death grow, however, are not satanic, with one reference to 'demon of the fall' (one of their songs).
they also combine death vocals with beautiful vocals, possibly the best in the business, alongside maynard james kennan (a perfect circle).

My mom freaked out when she looked at it and threw the album (record (out of the cover) into our field saying there were demons with it.
What Mormon beliefs were contained in their lyrics?I wasnt allowed to replace the (thrown out) album. Its ironic that now after 'coming out' I might be interested in listening to the album with a different interest than a teen twenty some years ago. I did a search for lyrics but could find none on the album. I did find the album though and I remember the songs with titles such as:
War in heaven
Before the beginning
Are you up there
The Last Days
were some of the offending titles to my mother and the elders... I found the following review on the net tonight
Most of the songs deal with God's Master Plan, the future of
I am thinking I might just order the "now on cd" release.. if nothing for old times sake.. you reminded me of something so long ago.. why not!
our world and/or mankind and deal with such morals -

When JW's Marry Jailbirds
by simplesally ini guess because there are so few brothers in the congregations, sisters start writing to brothers that are in prison.
in prison, these ne'er do wells have no bills, no job to commute to, 3 meals, a bed, free medical insurance and loads of time to read the bible and the wts publications.
oh my, kinda like bethel.

"Why would a woman ever want to marrry a jail bird lifer.. does the guy have lots and lots of money or something.". can she live in luxury while he lives in jail?
No money.. as a matter she has to bring him money so he can get 'treats' from the vending machine. -

If you are w/o parole, you don't get the internet either.
But I do know that guests (once approved to go in) can bring in literature to those inmates they visit. I am sure they go through them to make sure they have nothing they shouldn't though.
I also know that they won't let a woman visit an inmate wearing an 'underwire bra'

mmmm nice chaps Vallis
*************************
I'm upset because (as I mentioned in another thread) a car rental company is trying to bill us for damage to a car we rented that was fine and dandy when we returned it. I just got pictures from them in the mail and we are not talking a little scratch on the side of a car we didn't notice, the drivers front side is all bashed in. This car is in serious damage and near impossible to drive. Someone is pulling a scam on us and I am really pissed off.. I mean this chaps my ass!

Have you been surprised?
by Sassy inby how many people
even more so how many people you meet here and after getting a chance to know them, learn they know some of the very same people you do?
(for example i met a woman here on the board whom i have never met personally but she knows some people that i grew up, even the 'brother' who gave me my first kiss..

well if you never post anything to lead anyone to have any idea where you are from or places you have been, you may never know. For me, it turned out that I already knew someone here and she told me who a few people were that both of us already knew and loved... Then I actually got gutzy and sent a private message to someone who was obviously on the same fan club as I was (by reading a few posts) and so I thought, why not, ask him where he is from. Now it turned out he wasn't from the area I was from BUT, he gave me names of other posters from the same state so I sent another PM to one who was closer to my home town... She had only just moved to the area in recent years BUT, she told me where she was from and asked if I knew anyone there.. low and behold I did!!
so.. it was just taking a chance.. asking a question... sometimes you don't know people.. and sometimes you do!
I found out more people I knew were here as well this week.. I was like WOW.. who would have guessed!!
notperfectyet, who were you waiting for? little ole' me??

"Nervous Breakdown"
by StinkyPantz inwhat is it exactly?
how do you know if you are having one?
what do you do about it?

Although as I stated above, I didn't necessarily agree with the statement, Simon's few words seem to have been blown out of proportion to mean a lot more than I think he intended.

Someone is hurting
by donkey ini am writing this thread because i hope it fosters some positive communication although i may end up being deleted for it.. to start with a discliamer: i am no fan of stinkypantz posts - they just aren't that interesting to me.. that being said i now see sp was deleted.
my first reaction to that was anger.
sp posted stuff about being close to a nervous breakdown, wishing she could just "disappear" etc....she is obviously someone in pain right now.. we have been constantly censured about how this is a place of healing and we need to keep it that way for people who need healing, support and comfort.. so i only hope sp has been "temporarily suspended" (not deleted) for her own good and no because she pissed off some moderator.

Having sat as both admin and moderator in the past, I have to speak on behalf of them. Unless any of those have taken on the job personally of the responsibility of being in such a position, be slow to jump to conclusions. It is easy for any member to come in here and if you don't like something, jump in and post a thread complaining about what we think isn't right. Sure we risk the fact that someone can delete our thread (thus giving more weight for our reasons for complaint) but we have our say and at least a few will have heard us at the minimum. How often do you see a mod or admin post a thread about the difficulties of doing their job? When they have bad days and people are coming down on them for what they 'think' isn't right, they can't just make a post and ask for sympathy or allies. It just isn't done and only causes more divisions on the board. Nor do any of us see the times they get the emails or private messages on them for NOT taking action against what some post on the board. You just don't know the pressure put on them nor do any of us know all sides to a story when someone is deleted. They are in a no win situation. Damned if they do and damned if they don't. I know I don't have any idea of what is going on for instance with SP. I saw the post about the breakdown. I saw the post taunting them for deletion. Maybe it was a cry for help and maybe they didn't make a good choice. BUT maybe there is more to it than any of us know. Maybe a time out was needed. But the thing is, how much do we really know? so how much can we really judge?
