Satanic music or not (Opeth) - boundaries of JW listening material
by Frantic inas you may or may not know, some jw elders may resent some of their music thier children may listen to.. put simply, a 'death growl' is often viewed as a warped version of satan.
the band opeth use such death grow, however, are not satanic, with one reference to 'demon of the fall' (one of their songs).
they also combine death vocals with beautiful vocals, possibly the best in the business, alongside maynard james kennan (a perfect circle).

I remember when some elder brought over this tape we had to listen to that talked about all the back masking of Satan worship. We threw out a ton of good music.. no more Kansas, FleetwoodMac, Eagles, Led Zepplin, Rolling Stones.. I loved Stevie Nicks and was sick to throw out either her stuff or Fleetwoods, but because they were pushing it on the witchcraft issue that she supposedly practiced I was told they all had to go..
I've replaced in recent yrs some of the music thrown out back then.
(I remember the thing about the smurfs back then too.. out went the Hardies Soda glasses in the cupboard with the Smurfs on them with the record albums)
I also remember one year my mom got freaked out about (get this... -->) an Osmond album I had called The Plan. They had some of their Mormon beliefs in a few songs on the album. One night my brother had this reel to reel tape player (yes I know I am aging myself) that my bother had taped the sound from my album on. After one of our bible studies, my brother went to play back the tape but something weird happened and it played everything backwards so at first we didn't know what it was. you could tell it was music but not understand any of the words. But I recognized the voices and said it was the Osmonds. My mom freaked out when she looked at it and threw the album (record (out of the cover) into our field saying there were demons with it. Then she had the elders come over the next day. I wasn't allowed to buy Osmond albums for close to a year after that. I know it is pretty funny.. imaging the sqeaky clean Osmonds as demonic record creators but my mom was freaked and the elders didn't think I should have that album any way because of the Mormon beliefs on it.

There are all kinds of meanings to an affair. It can be sexual but it doesn't have to be. I corresponded with a 'brother' on another board two yrs ago and he was married. It started as purely innocent friends and I didn't even realize it but he was falling for me. He was using me as a shoulder because he was having a lot of problems with his wife who refused to be 'part of his life' but yet cried to the elders about everything little thing. I would listen when he needed to vent. What I didn't realize was that he actually even thought of leaving his wife and getting in his car and coming to see me and not just to talk. In my eyes in a way, that was close to an affair, even though I had no idea he was developing feelings for me. We had to stop talking to each other when the truth came out because it wasn't a healthy thing for him.
As far as online affairs in a sexual way, I guess in a way what I am in now started there. Although my soon to be ex had left the house, my divorce still has not gone through. but when he left, I let myself be open to meeting some people online, first just in chat (such as yahoo) and some of them lead to meeting in person.. One of those men found his way past the flirtatious fun into my heart and now shares my life in every intimate way. Is it an affair? I guess, since technically I am still married, even if I refuse to consider what it was a marriage..

If you have to ask then you are most likely not having one.
I went through some stuff years ago and I remember saying something to my sister in law about it. I was crying all the time and didn't know why which frustrated me. She is in the medical profession and she told me I was probably having a nervous breakdown. I had no idea. I just knew that life was difficult at that time even though I wasn't sure why. When she explained to me that so many things were out of my control and overhwelming beyond what I could handle, my body was reacting. I was having a breakdown. We can have feelings and anxieties in life but having them doesn't mean we always know what label to put on them.
One thing helps the most during a breakdown, is when your friends are really there for you and not judging you. I've had both, friends who are, and friends who judge.
If you are going through difficult times, I hope you have a lot of the kind of friends who are there to support you Stinky.

New Divorce Rules ???
by jazbug ina friend of mine is getting a divorce because her husband is questioning the wts...he's sick of the cover-ups...in light of a new elder abuse case here.
she says she can't lie with someone who is going to talk against the wts..so i asked her how she could get a divorce for those reasons.
evidentally, the co came to talk to her and because she can't get govt.

When my ex husband (first husband, not the one I spoke of in this thead) and I got divorced I stayed a JW at the time. I moved and met with the elders shortly after divorcing. I stayed with that man for 17 yrs even though I was being abused physically and emotionally, but because the rules were then that you couldn't even LEAVE unless there was adultry, I stayed. When he finally admitted to having an affair I left him. HOWEVER, that man would not admit to the affair to the elders only to me. I moved to a new town, new cong and of course the elders wanted to know what was going on, so they met with me. Even though in the eyes of Jehovah I had scriptural freedom, even though he admitted it to me, he wouldn't to them and so I was not given my scriptural freedom at that time. I was even told by the elders in my new hall that I could not even speak out against him to anyone, telling them that I left him because of the affair, because it would be talking against my (GET THIS) still spiritual head. As long as there were not two witnesses and he did not openedly admit to them about the other woman, I was still considered, although not legally married, under his headship!
I'm sorry Will that your sister has been through so much. I know I had to go through a lot of stuff before my eyes were opened. I should have seen things years earlier. It took my second divorce to see the 'light'.

But there are some divorces, such as the area of physical abuse, that they still treat one better if they get one. Whereas get a divorce for something they don't feel fits into their box of rules and you can be ostrasized even while active in the cong.

by In_between_days inhas anyones jw friends or family ever spotted anyone on here who shouldnt be and reported you or confronted you?
how did they work out it was you?
how did you take it, and if you were in good standing at the time, what counsel did you receive?

lol... I didn't think of that..
however I think there is a difference between the site that from what I am understanding has members from here (or used to be) posting negatively about this site ...........and the one I just referred to.. believe me, out in the open that discussion board would not even allow members to see text about this site or any other nonJW site.. it has to be clean and perfect at all times!! SQUEAKY clean... some members would not even know a site like this exists.
