how did your jw families appreciate people knocking on your doors on trick or treat night?

we had one jw house that used to be totally dark except for the porch light so we could read their sign- we are jw's and do not celebrate halloween.
I have known of homeowners to disable the bell.
That would be us. My wife is a lifetime dub and she hates halloween with a passion.Since it falls on a non meeting night this year we will just "hide" at home....doorbell off,lights off or minimal and hope nobody will catch on.

maybe this only happens in urban neighborhoods but when i was growing up, many dubs engaged in street work, basically offering the magazines to people on the street as they walked to a destination.. usually it was an area with a lot of foot traffic at a time when many people would travel the area.. did you or people in your congo engage in this and were there any funny stories relating to this practice?

Long time ago...used to do street corner in a poor downtown urban setting.My wife and I had to beat off the poor ,homeless and druggies.We felt we were doing the right thing but the reality was we were just "playing a game in our minds"

there are actually about 365.25 (or 365 1/4) days in each year.
with the gregorian calender that most of the "western" world now uses, we add a day to february every 4 years to ensure that the seasons are always in synch with the months.
we call this the "leap-day" and it is added to the "leap-year".

In one or two sentences can you explain to me why the lunar years of 360 days were changed to 365 days which they did to make up 1914.??

you know even though i think the wt doctrine is mostly all garbage now, i still do believe that the bible is inspired from our creator.
the flaw in my understanding of it in the past was because i was interpreting it through the filter of the wts.
recently i have started clean slate and read the bible without the wt filter (easier said than done, your mind has a way of reverting back to what was programmed in there).
What you have here, if you will only step back and give it a hard look, is a PRESUPPOSITION.There is a "given" you won't (or haven't) examine which is the hidden hook the worm is wriggling around when you went to feed.
You simply cannot BEGIN by ASSUMING something which requires a great deal of proving: "..the Bible is inspired from our creator."
That is the real flaw in your understanding and not the FILTER from any religious group.
You cannot let this just slide by.

hundreds of supplementary publications written by unnamed authors that can hide behind the watchtower and bible tract society and say anything without referencing it.
lately, i have been thinking that this is one of the reasons that the society does not encourage higher education.
try handing in an essay without your name on it, try not referencing your essay, try having no works cited, try to have only 1 works cited, try quoting out of context, try spewing statistics or numbers or trends in your essay with no reference or date, add ellipsis that only alert your instructor to the potential of hidden information, or try presenting as support for your thesis a third party quote.
I always called the awake "readers digest lite" My wife was not amused...
They say in the forward that they report the "news" What are they talking about???
They sure don't look like Time or Newsweek to me...
in talking to a fellow ex-dub buddy of mine the other day, it occured to me that in many ways....witnesses could be living the life they expect to live in the new system.......but they don't.. in the publications we see picture after picture of smiling brothers helping each other frame each others new houses ....for free.
we also never see in the publications poor african people walking through aligator/ piranna infested swamps to get to a kingdom hall either in the new system.. .
the fact is......brothers hire brothers in this system to help build their new homes and are taught not to expect free labor, but to pay them as you would the next guy.. with regards to the poor africans.....and others...., the jehovahs witness organisation has enough money to see that fellow believers in poorer countries should not go hungry or be without a meeting place to worship in.
know an elder whose wife left him and later divorced him. She's still a jw. I would ask him how he thought things were going to take place in the new system, since they don't have a "scriptural" divorce. He said, "Jehovah's going to bring the two of us together and say to her, 'Here is your husband.' And we'll have to make it work." Sounds like fun!

My Dad had almost the same problem. His second wife was a good JW also. They hated each others GUTS and got a divorce after a few years. My Dad was panicked with the idea of having to spend "eternity" with her. They have both died since then so it is no longer an issue.
I think god will make all the guy's peckers fall off in the "new system"™ That will simplify matters a lot as all we will have to worry about is vaccuming and taking out the trash...oops forgot dishes..
MY GODDDD...An eternity of taking out the trash...Life doesn't get better than that....

i have a couple of questions for anyone who has been reinstated.. what kinds of questions did they ask you?.
if they decided to reinstate you were you told not to discuss why you were dfed, especially if another jw was involved?
After the second meeting, I called one of the elders on my committee to ... well, I didn't know why I was calling exactly. One thing he told me gave me great comfort at the time. He pointed out that Jehovah reads hearts and He may well have reinstated me already.
You have to learn to read between the lines...What he was really saying was PISS OFF with sending us those letters every month and making us reconsider you. ( extra meeting) We will get back to you when WE are good and ready and you better be ready to kiss our ring (piece) if you want to get back in...
