"religion is a snare and a racket".
two questions:.
1. can someone source that quotation?
Incidentally, I believe that in those days they did not claim to be a religion.. so they could talk about "religion" as a seperate body to themselves
That is what I remember also. They were called Jehovah's witnesses with a SMALL W.It was in the early 80's ( I think) when they were finally called "Jehovah's Witnesses" They used to make a big deal out of it at the time....that they were not a religion...
.
i don't know if its just me or if anyone else feels the same but it really annoys me when jehovahs witnesses use their terminology when speaking to a non jw.. for example, a jw woman is talking to a collegue who has never had a bible study and knows nothing about jws.. instead of saying "i have a friend coming for tea tonight" the woman says " one of the sisters is coming for tea tonight".. or, instead of "i was talking to a friend on the phone last night" she says "i was talking to an elder on the phone last night".. it just really winds me up, i think they do it to seem important and mysterious but it only leaves the other person confused.
This is a repost of mine from last Oct showing how weird things get when you reject the JW terminology
This just serves to show again what a cult...Cult...CULT they are.
Well I went and did it. I got into trouble with my wife AGAIN. She had just come home from a one day C.A. and felt the "NEED" to share with me. After a minute or so I told her I didn't really feel like talking religion with her.She almost screamed at me..."YOU MEAN THE TRUTH DON'T YOU" ????. I was not trying to stir it up but I had struck a real nerve with her.
My thought is when did the truth become "THE TRUTH"? and need to be defended to the death like this ??? Was it after WW 2 or more in the time of Rutherford...the 1930's or so.
A secondary thought is she gets right upset at me using the generic term GOD instead of guess who.Has the CULT programing become so deep that all good dubs react in this fashion without even thinking why?
POZ.
what is the watchtower's position on space exploration?
its not addressed at my hall but according to my aunt its the devil.
my mother says the total opposite.
The Truth Shall Make You Free...1943Man on earth can no more get rid of these demonic "heavens" than man can by airplane or rockets or other means get up above the air envelope which is about our earthly globe and in which man breathes. DAMM...That's what happens when I become a nasty POZTATE and didn't keep up with "New Light"™
recently i was amazed to read in another thread that jw females are not even allowed to walk up and down the aisles counting those in attendance.
the poster said jw women literally "don't count" - a brilliant play on words.
i guess i had never thought about it before, but it got me wondering about all the behind-the-scene work jw females do, but their invisibility in the public arena.
"No one else will be allowed to take the stage(relative or not) to say a few words or eulogize the person." (Poztate) Actually, my grandmother's nephew, not a witness, was afforded an opportunity to provide a eulogy which was comforting to us grandchildren
The stage I was referring to was the KH stage. A funeral at a KH is a congregation event and I have NEVER heard of anyone allowed to comment or eulogise from the stage. It is a tightly controlled event conducted by an elder with no deviation allowed from the script. Having a service at a funeral home is not a congregation event and therefore I can see that others might be allowed to participate as long as they could keep the elder from getting upset (interfaith)
I would be interested to hear if anyone has ever been"eulogised" at the KH. Europe perhaps ??? Not in Canada that I know of.
PMOUSE...welcome by the way

But what about during funeral services - does this invisibility still prevail? Are they allowed to give a eulogy? Can they be pallbearersTo say that witnesses have a funeral service would be a lie. They do conduct a public talk given by an elder. The elder will give a brief summary of the persons life with a lot of thought that they were faithful, always supported the congregation and got their hours in.THEN they will switch into the beliefs they have for resurrection...new system...remain faithful..being loyal etc..etc...etc.. This is the standard talk given at funerals. He might even ...if he have guts enough prompt everyone in attendance to attend all the meetings (listing meeting times) so they can survive "A" and see their loved one again.
No one else will be allowed to take the stage(relative or not) to say a few words or eulogize the person. You would also be discouraged from giving notes about the persons life to the elder conducting the talk for inclusion in the talk. You must remember the funeral is about them..not the person who died.
although i was considered an exemplary jw, i never really could see it happening.
still don't.
1941?Im Not familiar with that one?
Here are a few choice quotes from that era. As you can see not much has changed in WT land.
1941 "Armageddon is surely near, and during that time the Lord will clean off the earth everything that offends and is disagreeable. ... From now on we shall have our heart devotion fixed on The Theocracy, knowing that soon we shall journey forever together in the earth. Our hope is that within a few years our marriage may be consummated and, by the Lord's grace, we shall have sweet children that will be an honor to the Lord. We can well defer our marriage until lasting peace comes to the earth." (J. F. Rutherford, Children, 1941, p.366) |
1941 "Receiving the gift, [Rutherford's book, Children] the marching children clasped it to them, not a toy or plaything for idle pleasure, but the Lord's provided instrument for most effective work in the remaining months before Armageddon." (Watchtower Sept. 15, 1941, p. 288) |

whole title:.
how do you feel about elders df'g a child of 13 or 14 for being a willing victim of child abuse?
No way. Shouldn't baptise 14 year olds - shouldn't disfellowship them either. More cult behaviour.
This is the real argument. There is no way that CHILDREN should be baptised. My thought is if you are not old enough to say NO and quit going to meetings then you are not old enough to say yes and get baptised. The WT encourages early baptism with the only purpose being to put you under their control..FOR LIFE. To be encouraged to be baptised by Elders or family before you are an adult is wrong...wrong..wrong.
this was influenced by the toy thread, but what were some of the foods, drinks and candy that were banned by the jws (either in writing or hearsay)?.
black forrest ham (coating is made from blood).
red skittles (blood used to make the dye).
how about fish?
They went nutty about fish in the late 1960's as far as I remember insisting all fish should be bled properly. That would let out ALL commercial fisheries since the fish were netted and smothered to death.A lot of the blood gathers along the backbone but if you look closely at the veins blood is still there.I believe they have dropped this idea since then although my relatives still cut the throats of all fish they catch. They also went buggy about that time with a claim that some flours were fortified with blood and to be wary of specialty breads.I recall this being in a watching the world article in the late 1960's or early 70's.?? I also recall the paranoia with the McDonalds hamburgers and other chains. They could not be sure the meat was bled properly so they would not eat them. The same thing happened with other fast food services. It was a time of CONTROL and no one thought to question "The Slave"
don't worry, this time it is not as scary as last time (you know, from the pedophile threatenting to re offend).
here are the messages i just received.
am i really supposed to think that this person is has skeptically studied this topic (pyramids)?
We are simple minded people, some people are slower learners than others,
