  "We only believe what the Bible says" or Help Refute a Common JW Claim

  i am presently trying to get my wife to not drink the kool-aid (get baptized).

  i have been pointing out to her that her and all jw beliefs come from the interpretation of scripture provided by the gb, and the inherent problems/contradictions therof.

  they say something like, "we don't put the gb on a pedestal or anything, we believe what we believe because it is in the bible, not because the gb is telling us to believe it.".

  You gave a well presented presentation.....However people join the witnesses not based on facts but on emotions. It is hard to change the mindset of persons(your wife) unless they can discuss it FULLY and not just see the WT side.

  I wish you luck, er um I mean, may the laws of probability favor you as well.

  It's good to keep your sense of humour...You can not always change what is or will be

  Who determines the "144,000 heaven goers"

  hey all!!

  i am married into a jw family, and i was told that there were only 144,000 people going to heaven (jw people at that) and i know one of the supposed people.

  who determines this?

  The general rule is that the last one was "sealed" in or before 1935... but you still find a few that were born well after 1935.

  I think you will find that MOST of the 8500+? that are taking part in the yearly ritual are born after 1935.

  If they were BORN in 1935 they are 70 years old. Assuming they were baptized or "called" at the age of 10 that would make them 80.

  How many 80 year olds do you see at memorial...Think about it.?? Damm lot of replacements...eh what ??

  Need some info....

  i've tried to search jwd for what i want, but didn't find what i was looking for, so not sure if it is just what i searched for or if i just imagined the posting.

  i thought that recently i read a post where someone was reasoning about the 'misleading' information from the wts, such as when they stated that the jws in 1914 were anticipating what we believe now about 1914, but how if you looked into the literature of that day, they believed that christ already came in 1874 and it wasn't 1914 like we believe today.....or something to that effect.

  i am preparing some information that i may share with my mom and i wanted to include that point....as one (of many) examples of the misleading information provided by the fds.. does anyone remember that post and point me to it?.

  I left her a message on her cell phone 3 weeks ago that I need to start saving more for my kids' secular education since the 4 year college education they were getting from the Awake magazines were going to take twice as long due to the WTBTS cutting them back to once a month

  I got a good chuckle out of this one too

  in 1993 there were 926,914 peak publishers.

  in 2004 there are 1,019,696 peak publishers.

  You got that right.The most positive of spins will be put on this info.The downturns prove we must be close since the love of the greater number is cooling off.

  The upturns prove that jah is blessing our efforts in the final few weeks or months (not years) before "A"

  Everyone will leave that meeting with a warm little glow knowing that things are working out just the way that was planned

  I used to be able to open the letter. Now I can't. Can someone with computer smarts help me out?

  If you can get to the page but you can't open the letter it may be a problem with Adobe Acrobat Reader.

  This is the program that handles and opens all files that are .pdf

  If you continue to have problems I would download the latest (free) version of Acrobat Reader.

  Uninstall the old version,do a reboot and install the new version. Should work..

  an update on my sister

  to recap: my sister left her family for about 2 weeks, she had been depressed for months (years possibly) and information also surfaced about her being molested by our older half-brother (my fathers son) when she was little.

  my family tried desparately to get her to come back and get therapy and it worked.

  right now my sister is staying with my parents and they are helping her (and her husband and kids) get back on their feet.

  She had her judicial commitee and will be "publicly reproved". I am not sure what that is all about because I have never seen that done! (Or have I?). My brother was privately reproved recently (girl issues...oops) but for public...they announce it...does that mean people will not talk to her?

  With public reproof they used to just read out the name and say that you had been publically reproved.They do not say what the reproof was for. Shunning was never part of a public reproof but I am sure some of the"super dubs" would avoid any such person as being bad association.

  Mind you I have been lucky enough to be out for almost 25 years so there might be "new light"? on the subject.

  i was looking for something else and came across this old radio information pertaining to jws.

  wpow - 1330 am, new york

  jehovah's witnesses was one of the first religious organizations to enter the broadcasting field.. in 1923, the international bible students' association (as it was then called - the name 'jehovah's witnesses' waa adopted in 1931) bought the equipment of radio station wdt (see page 1) at stapleton, staten island, which the ship owners radio service was shutting down.. .

  In 1957, choosing to emphasize its publishing activity and stating that WBBR "no longer served the interests of the Kingdom," the Watchtower Bible And Tract Society sold its station to H. Scott Killgore's Tele-Broadcasters Of New York Inc. for $133,000. Thanks for the info. I think they originally tried to sell for 144,000 but they came up short then too.

  What I've been up to lately

  well im not a regular poster on here anymore, due to the fact that i dont own a computer, so either i have to use the computers at the mall or use family computers when im visiting them.

  i am in ohio right now visiting with my mom and grandpa (non-jw's) well here is a re-cap of what ive been doing since last summer.. beginning in late july i started picketing kingdom halls in knoxville tennessee and have had a blast doing it.

  i am averaging about 1 picket a month now, but as soon as spring starts back i will start doing more.. in october i went to the "witnesses now for jesus convention" i had a great time there in pennsylvania and hope to go again this fall.. starting last summer i embarked on a major awareness campaign at work about jw's and just about everybody i work with knows that i was raised a jw and know why i walked away from it.
