i've lost count of the number of times an aquaintance or customer introduces his partner by saying: "oh yeah, this is the wife".. .
the wife?.
It hate this expression and would NEVER use it....The reason...The wife would give me a good knee in the #@$
The other thing that I think should be thought about is the habit of refering to "the wife" as Mrs.(insert name of hubby) Smith.
Damm..Most gave up their last name at marriage and now we need their first name to.

a while back i read that the society gets free rooms for its convention speakers if they agree to fill so many rooms in a hotel with dubs, but is there anything more involved?.
The discounted rates are obvious. But, I have always wondered if they shake down the hotels for kickbacks. It could certainly be done, and I wouldn't put it past them, but I don't know for sure....
The discounted rates were not obvious to me.A week after the DA I phoned the same motel room...requested the same room and was given the EXACT SAME PRICE without it being a dub discount.Something SMELLS about this whole arrangement.
The Witness people are stupid enough to submit to it all. I was the most stupid of all. I deserve what I got.

yep, "godly obedience" is the theme for this years district convention.. you know the wts will be hot on obedience this year.. expect more wt articles asking for money (as obedience to jehovah), asking for more pioneers and elders, and making this a matter of obedience.. it's getting worse.. at the meeting this week, a whole 25 minutes was taken up on what to do regarding accomodation at the district convention.. brother zealous said if we're not obedient to the instructions that the faithful slave has given us, we undermine the hard work the society puts in to arrange these provisions.. godley obedience means we will attend all three days at our convention.. .

Accommodations are big business and because some areas are lacking the JWs move on to another area.
When you first think of the word accomodations you think of motel-hotel rooms.
A secondary meaning is "a settlement or agreement or a loan of money"
I would suggest that in the last few years many large city venues are no longer willing to "accomodate" the JW.
They used to have breaks on the parking in Vancouver B.C.They used to be able to keep all the concession closed
and bring in own food.They got a break on the rent and supplied "free labour" to clean up.
Greater Vancouver has one million plus people.Most dubs live within commute of the area...AND YET..rather than pay they extra costs all JW conventions will be moved once again to Kamloops B.C. This is a drive of 250 miles.The boys that run the show are not worried.It might cost the individual dub more but they will make their profits back with the lower rental cost of arena and the skim they take from the motel bookings.

This could be a new and exciting tool for the dubs to use in service. Program in a few simple comments from the WT,
add a request for "donations" and mention god is going to kill you really soon if you don't join up. You could have them knocking on doors 24 hours a day. Gotta love the future.

he and my grandmother (still alive) were both jehovah's witnesses.

Sorrry to hear of your loss.I am not sure about England but in Canada a funeral will be a talk by an elder only.
He will spend a short time reviewing the life of your grandfather and how well he did in the congregation.
Namely he was always at meetings,regular in going out to talk to others about his faith and always "supported" the congegation.
They will then go into the recruitment stage where they talk of his hope for a ressurrection of eternal life in the "new system" and how you too can be a part of this. They stop only a little short of mentioning meeting times and an offer for a "free book study"
There will be no imput from friends or relatives who want to say ANYTHING else about him. Everything will be controlled and micromanaged by them.
i am sure i am not the only one that thinks it's ridiculous that they allow pre-teens and young teens to get baptized.
i know now that i did not have a full understanding of the implications of baptism.
i did it primarily because that's what was expected.
What are your thougts on allowing the young to make such a life-altering decision at a very young age?
To me it's really quite simple. If you are old enough to say NO and quit the truth you are old enough to be baptized.

blood substitute vexes jehovah's witnesses.
But, the denomination's headquarters in New York has left open the question of whether the blood substitute will be allowed.
With a life or death in the balance leaving open this question is the highest form of religious hypocracy.They want to duck and run for cover rather than face the issue.
A letter sent to the GB asking for clarification could be simple and to the point. Are the blood "substitutes" polyeheme and or hemopure acceptable or is a matter for your"bible based concience"?
HLC's at a local level may have given approval but I want to hear it from the horse's ASS mouth.
In my own case I could not in good concience sign any DPA for my wife unless SHE researched this area and started to ask quesions of the local elders,HLC and perhaps wrote the GB to clarify things. HAH!!
i remember one time at an assembly these two "brothers" were actually arguing over thier seats.
i thought they were going to go to blows.
isn't it funny how during the regular meeting nobody wants to set in the front rows, but boy at an assembly everyone wants to have that "showy means of display" by being in the front rows to be seen by all?
Your comments seem extemely critical and negative. I personally like to sit near the platform in assamblys because it helps keep my concentration on the program. I really don't care if I'm seen sitting in the front or not.
Way back when I used to go to assemblies they used to reserve the front rows for those who were deaf and dumb.

there seem to a commonality around here about active jw parents shunning us.. my question is: if your parents weren't a jw, do you think they would be normal, act kindly, be a real parent to you?
or would they still be cold and callused towards you, controlling, etc.
my thought is this, so many times i used to think i wish my mom wasn't a jw because then i thought she would be this wonderful caring mother that i could go to lunch with, share shopping days with, recipes, and we'd be close.

Without the JW influence...no doubt in my mind that many parents would REVERT to being normal.
The WT is a mind controlling CULT and sadly because of that a family relationship can never happen.
