  i actually started clapping at that point, as his honour explained to the wt type creep sycophantic slithery lawyer that........" i understand that we all have issues to face in life and .....that is a part of life...........however it has become obvious that this man ....is in such a position to assist with this investigation.....".

  it boils down to the fact that stewart outright accused the latest witness of misleading the royal commission and this lead to some document searches which led his honour to conclude that they had been protecting mr jackson.

  this was a warm and fluffy moment folks.................brilliant stuff!!!!!

  umber: This did not impress His Honour too much, for he is aware that many of us have dealt with sick family, family who are dying. No doubt McClellan has had to deal with such family matters in his own career. Hell, we all have. So it was a ruse as far as the RC team could see and it had gone on all this week.

  Not only that, just think of how many of us have been denied the right to attend JW funerals. Or, as JWs, told we could not attend a loved grandparent's funeral because it was in a Catholic Church. How many of us have been denied the human right to grieve for our loved ones? How many of us have lost family? Real, live, breathing family.

  i think it is justice in its purest form if Jackson has to put aside his family concerns for this hearing. Right on. Maybe the Holy Spirit is acting, after all.

  Lying is ingrained into their very nature. It is what the indoctrination is all about - how to lie. The JWs can't help themselves - they have no truth to tell.

  They are empty inside - a shell filled with Bible verses. That's all.

  Take away the lie and there is nothing left - Poof! We may very well see Jehovah Jackson vaporize right on the stand!

  We can now estimate the absolute minimum number of child abuse cases

  vincent tool said that he is exclusively working the phones for child abuse cases, but never said he is not the only one.

  for now, let's assume the rate of abuse cases averages over time to the three or four cases he gets per month.

  let's further assume that, since he isn't the only person working the phones and is on vacation at some point, the number is 4-5 per month, or 4.5 per month.

  Yes, the numbers that Toole presented don't quite jive. On one hand, he claims that the 1006 cases are correct. But, that works out to about 15 per year - a bit over one a month. And then Toole goes around and says - he hears about 3 to 4 per month. But...apparently the Service Desk are the ones who hear about them...mostly. I guess...

  Well, Mr. Toole. Which is it? I have a sense that neither figure is right as to the true magnitude of the chid abuse within the JWs. Assuming that figures collected within the general population can be somewhat taken to be similar within the JWs, American statistics on child abuse point to the following:

  - 20 to 25 percent of all children will be abused during their childhood

  - Somewhere between 2/3 and ninety percent of sexual abuse victims never tell !!!

  If those statistics even loosely hold up within the JWs, given that the WTS guys are trying to make the case that the cases are actually more exposed by their judicial system and therefore higher, it would be difficult to evaluate the full extent of how many cases there actually are.

  Instead of the problem being lower than national averages, however, I would guess that the rates are higher. Justice McClelland has called the Jehovah's Witness environment a "perfect storm" for child abuse to occur.

  When Jackson is called to the stand, the inquiry will invariably resort to a discussion of Bible doctrine. The only thing that Jackson has to offer is a WTS' Bible education and that is the foundation of all of their rules and procedures.

  The theological debate will be outstanding. The world will be exposed to the WTS' understanding of the Bible.

  Jehovah's authority is about to be laid to ruin.

  Yes. It was used by Monty Baker's lawyer. The 1957 quote is too old to have much clout, though, But it does set the stage - I believe I saw a more recent quote posted somewhere, from 2002/3, that would bring the directive to engage in theocratic warfare, up to date.

  Jackson, when (and if...) he appears, has a lot to answer for. Because of the GB's claims that they speak for Jehovah, this will be like putting God on the stand. Humph...I wonder what Jehovah Jackson will have to say for himself.

  Jackson's words - and he is head of the Writing Department - have got to be pretty damned close to Jehovah's words, don't they?

  Heehee, I wonder if Justice McClelland knows that he is almost going to be talking to God himself! Heehee, this is getting better and better.

  I hope Jackson shows up. It will be like Judgement Day - except Jehovah will be the defendant instead of the judge.

  it seems like there has not been as much discussion here about the rc testimony on day 6 (4th august) as there has been about previous days.

  i was quite surprised by rodney spinks' testimony, which was a marked contrast to the bungling and inarticulate testimony of the elders that appeared before him.

  spinks seemed reasonably co-operative, and a lot more willing to concede points than anyone else has been.

  You are right - I picked up on that, too.

  When you think of it, considering that Applewhite was speaking about the "messages" contained in the WT literature and directives, the message that is given to children that they will grow up and marry a "brother" or marry a "sister" is rather perverse, isn't it?

  Heaven: Exactly what do JW elders do to ensure a child is kept safe within their congregation? Spinks is stating they do everything they can including removing the child from the situation. Huh? This is not my understanding at all.

  Spinks only said that to look good. The elders that he was instructing in BCG's case did the exact opposite. Those elders, with instruction form the Service Desk (which, according to Spinks, looks after "theorcratical" and "spitirtual" concerns) conselled the abuser to move "back into the family home" in order to receive repentance. The family home had two small girls that the elders already knew had been abused. "Acting on counsel from the Service Desk".

  Spink's testimony is in conflict with what the Royal Commission has already been told. Applewhite even gave testimony that the elders have no power or authority to remove a child from a home.

  The elders misuse their power to abuse victims of crime and then back off and don't use that power when they should and could - to protect victims. They make victims with their doctrines and enforce the abuse with their policies.

  ante: Saying that their only been two elders and four MS in the pass ten years charge with child abuse like that was something to brag about they are sick.

  But...but...what about the other 1000 case files they hang on to? Does that mean that the JWs don't think that the other 1000 are "guilty" by Biblical law??

  His number crunching didn't make much sense. He would say when questioned about the cases they had to respond to - "oh, we hardly have any of those..."

  But then he would pull all sorts of examples of child abuse allegations out of thin air to show that "we know what we are doing. We have experience..."

  He said about the 190 abuser figure: "They weren't JWs." Why is that? Sure, some may have offended prior to joining the JWs, but I bet a large number were disfellowshipped predators. The ones that the JW had already condemed. They knew they were criminals before the cases hit the courts.

  Throwing numbers out there is one thing but how they are presented is quite another.

  startrekangel: If Jesus was not willing to be a judge between two brothers over financial matters (where simple Math would have offered a fair outcome) what makes these nutjobs think that they can judge over a sexual abuse case?

  True that. What is with their obsession with investigating child abuse allegations?

  Do they invest that many man hours into investigating a 'brother' or 'sister that has been suspected of murder? Hell, they say they won't even report murder! Do they minutely investigate all sins/crimes of the congregants with as much due diligence?

  They have a twisted view of crime and sin - Spinks wouldn't even admit to the inability to change a serial rapist. No shit - they baptized Sutcliffe. He refused to budge on the notion that Gawd can change anyobody. He had to - there would go all those prison visits!

  The weird thing to me is that these nutjobs would even want to take on the task of investigating - seeing as it is so "disgusting". Why would they want to evaluate details of child sex abuse allegations?

  I noticed that DeRooy was so confident that they would get more evidence. Sure he was - the elders were encouraging the abuser to go back into the home. So they could confidently go back and hear some more child abuse stories and write them down. They knew he would abuse and they encouraged it. Why is that? Really. Why?

  Spinks threw everybody he could think of under the bus - all the religions and cultures he could that popped out of his brain. He brought up Muslims and even Native American traditions. Without understanding the least bit about those beliefs and traditions. He must have pissed off a lot of people last night with his comments.

  According to him, the JWs were the heroes of WW2. You know...all those guys who didn't fight but helped build Himmler's castle. And the ones who did all that administrative work for the SS because the JWs wouldn't touch anything 'military'. But they were good at helping Pohl in the financing department of the SS. Those guys.

  Spinks was well trained - in Watchtower propaganda. He took the opportunity to give a "good witness" to all those worldy people.
