  Let The Right One In (novel)

  so, i've already posted stuff about the 2008 film of the same title, directed by tomas alfredson.. i rate that film very highly, so i thought i'd treat myself over the xmas holidays with the novel by john ajvide lindqvist.

  the book is a lot darker in some aspects - the film sensibly tones down the paedophile desires and exploits of haakan, the girl vampire's carer.

  nobody wants to see that kind of stuff on screen.

  Both the novel and 2008 film are very rereadable/rewatchable.

  The way romantic relationships are presented is fascinating.

  I've noticed that all the adult relationships are dysfunctional to some degree.

  There is Lacke, an alcoholic, and his on-off girlfriend Virginia. They have drunken bust-ups.

  There are Yvonne and Erik, Oskar's parents. Yvonne is a single mum who works nights, so she isn't around for Oskar half the time. Erik likes to drink too much, and sometimes prefers to drink with his buddy when his son visits.

  Haakan's relationship with Eli is the most disturbing of the lot. Haakan is a paedophile. His relationship with Eli is not sexual, although Haakan probably wants it to be. He also lusts after young boys.

  Pretty much the only romantic relationship in the novel that is 'normal' is the one that develops between Oskar and Eli. 🤣

  Yes. A lot of Asian voters vote Labour in the north - particularly Asian Muslims. It's the same where I am in Bolton. Of course, there's nothing wrong with Asians voting for Labour.

  I just want all who failed the victims to be punished. I don't give a shit about skin colour or religious background.

  JWs believe that the governing body are God's only channel on the earth, and that they must obey the GB to remain in the good standing.

  Why have the GB got religious things wrong? - is that the GB messing up, or is their communication line to God a bit dodgy?

  Why should JWs follow the GB, and not Christ?

  Why is the faithful slave parable taken literally, and not left as just a parable?

  Does the JW org owe victims of child abuse money?

  All cases of child abuse must be reported, irrespective of the ethnicity of the perpetrators or the victims.

  The Asian grooming gangs got away with it for so long because people were scared of being called racist.

  Now, people must be fired from their jobs and be answering questions under oath in a court of law.

  @peacefulpete - disgraceful slurs in your last post.

  For a start, it's not just the right that don't go along with the mainstream media's official narrative, there are left-wingers such as Corbyn and Diane Abbot, and even our very own SlimBoyFat, who I'm guessing is of the left - these people also refuse to swallow Western propaganda. It doesn't necessarily mean they, or me, are pro-Russian.

  If you look at my posts, all I've ever really said is 'I want this war to stop and I want peace as soon as possible' <--- this would be a fair summary of my comments.

  That last comment wasn't what you said originally.

  You originally said 'I can't believe that standing up to aggressors ... is prolonging the war'.

  That was not my point. My point, again, is this: The West has given lots of military hardware to Ukraine, and this has prolonged the war.

  How difficult is this to understand?

  @Corney - I suggest you read through this thread again because you've missed the point.

  The point is this: the West sending Ukraine military hardware has prolonged the war.

  You either want peace as soon as possible or you want Ukraine to win the war.

  But you cannot have both.
