What do you do for living?

i am not currently working..

I'm currently not working, too.

I am going to college one day a week on an IT course.

(I graduated from uni in 2015 with a biology degree. I could do a doctorate because my BSc grade was good enough to jump up to a PhD but it isn't easy and I just don't have that desire at the moment. I guess I'm lazy!)

PS - I don't like living on Job Seeker's Allowance. For one thing, I don't like being dependent on the government. Another thing, I should be earning my own money and being independent.

Hopefully I can get a nice little job in IT after I complete my college course.

Long-term, I would like to try and go for a PhD if possible.

Canadian Residential School Deaths

in case you haven't heard, they just discovered the remains of some 215 dead children at a so called canadian residential school.

they couldn't call it a death-camp could they ... it would be too obvious.. these were where indigenous children were taken, forcibly, in order to "educate" them out of their native customs and languages and make them integrate with society.. unbelievably, this was still going on in the 60s to 90s.. of course the catholic church has their sticky fingers all over it.

This is absolutely terrible.

A proper investigation is needed, with real bite and consequences. Anyone alive who was involved should be thrown in prison for ever.

These efforts to eliminate the native peoples can only be described as genocide - as bad as these actions were, I don't think they were actually genocide in most cases.

Maybe the German Empire's massacres in southern Africa amounted to genocide.

The Nazi's extermination of Jews was genocide.

The massacre and enforced slavery by ISIS on the Yazidis was attempted genocide.

The Queen's Gambit (2020) One of the most enjoyable miniseries I've seen in awhile

the queen's gambit is a 7 episode netflix miniseries about a female chess prodigy in the 1950's and 60's.. the story chronicles the life of the fictitious character, elizabeth harmon (anja taylor-joy) from the time she learns the game as an orphan clear up to the point where she defeats russian grand master, vasily borgov (marcin dorociński) to become the world champion.. female grandmasters are a rarity, so i was afraid the series was going to morph into an anti-male screed.

nearly every male character in the series, from the gruff but kindly william shaibel, the custodian at the orphanage who taught her the basics of the game and fronted her the money for her first tournament to vasily borgov himself is gracious and clearly delighted to play against a woman so talented in a sport dominated by men.. two notable exceptions were her pos adopted father who didn't care about her or his wife and a russian player who got a little salty when she kicked his butt in 21 moves.

@Dropoffyourkey - yes, I was thinking something similar.

To be a top pro chess player, you have to basically live, breathe and sleep chess.

Men are more likely to go in for high risk/high reward behaviour.

Women typically tend to be more sensible and have different life balances, e.g. having children and child-rearing.

Feminists won't like to hear it but the average woman has XX chromosomes, is fertile, and wants children at some point.

I haven't seen it yet, I'll have to wait for it to come out on DVD.

I liked Anya Taylor-Joy in The Witch (2015).

I used to play chess a little when I was younger, but I kinda stopped at 15 and have never wanted to start playing again.

I also think it's slightly weird that professional chess is so dominated by men because it's a non-physical sport in that men's natural advantages of strength and speed mean nothing.

billions of people around the world beleive in a god of some sort or other who exerts some power or influence to some degree or other in lifes affairs .. i don`t think there would be anywhere near that figure that would entertain the possability of extra terrestial life elsewhere in the universe.. and i find that curious .. the ancients didn`t know that their were other humans on other continents on this planet until they ventured out and found them .. we live somewhere in the milky way galaxy with millions of suns and planets that orbit them.. our galaxy is only one of trillions if not zillions of galaxys in the known universe.. look at the diversity of life on just this one planet earth ,what possabilitys could exist elsewhere ?

I have my own BS detector, plus this site has helped me somewhat.

Uni also helped me. Studying Biology helped me because in science, you have to justify your statements, reference others , and support your statements with data.

apparently, a rape victim of the asian grooming gangs has wrote to the home office after breaking down the hate crime unit's statistics on hate crimes in the uk.. apparently, the guy who ran over a muslim outside finsbury park mosque committed a hate crime, but the islamist who ran people over and stabbed people on london bridge did not, according to the hate crime unit within the home office.. very interesting video detailing dodgy presentation of statistics ….
