Bashar al-Assad is a tyrant who kidnaps, abuses and massacres his own people so it's understandable that many Syrians want him gone.

They went about it the wrong way, or it started out well and then turned bad as the Islamist Head-choppers became prominent.

And what about the Kurds? They've fought bravely to gain some kind of independence. It would be an absolute travesty if they were to lose that - either to al-Assad or to the Turkey-backed Islamist groups. Either way it would be terrible for them.

Boris Johnson gets to decide that - he's Prime Minister of the UK and has a large majority.

majority of the UK people voted for parties supporting either Remain or second referendum - but that's only because the majority of our MPs voted Remain and want us to stay.

So, more political parties ran on manifestos that wanted to stop/overturn the 2016 referendum result.

It was only two parties that stuck up for the will of the UK electorate - the Conservatives and the Brexit party.

All the pro-Remain MPs got slaughtered - it was a total bloodbath and a sharp reminder to our MPs not to ignore the will of the people.

Dominic Grieve - gone.

Jo Swinson - gone.

Chuka Umunna - gone.

Anna Soubry - gone.

etc., etc.

We've now had two votes for Brexit - one referendum and one general election. The message sent to our 'honourable' Members of Parliament is crystal-clear: get brexit done. I hope they listen to the people they claim to serve.

It’s for the SNP to decide when to have another vote - no, it's not.

Boris just got elected to be PM of the UK on a manifesto promising to 'Get Brexit Done'.

So, first, we get brexit done (i.e. the whole of the UK, including Scotland, leaving the EU) - however long this may take - and only afterwards can Scotland have IndyRef Mk 2.

There's also one important caveat: the Scottish electorate will be asked the question whether they want to remain in or leave the UK. Whichever way the vote goes, it will be understood by both Leavers and Remainers that the political union known as the UK won't be broken up in the event that Leave wins - i.e. the UK will continue as a political union with or without Scotland.

Boris Johnson just got elected UK Prime Minister with a huge majority and therefore with a clear political mandate. This must be accepted by all before we can proceed.

If I were being cynical, I'd note that she lectures capitalist countries but not communist/socialist ones like China and conclude that her agenda is to overthrow capitalism.

the reality is that there is an embarrassment of riches illustrating the evolution of life.

England voted against having another EU referendum - the UK voted against having another EU referendum.

Scotland voted in favour of having another independence referendum - well, the SNP did very well and have another UK indy ref on their manifesto.

But how many UK indy refs do you want?

Just one more, as long as Leave the UK wins?

Best of three?

Or just keep re-running it until you get the answer you want (which is leave the UK)?

Is there ANY democratic mandate for an independence referendum in Scotland that the UK would respect? - how often do you want UK independence referendums?

Every 5 years?

If Scotland had a second UK indy ref and chose again to remain in the UK, would you and Wee Jimmy Krankie accept the result and shut up about it?

The 2014 UK independence referendum was marketed as a once in a generation event.
