Arrangements were made for the printing to be done by commercial firms in various cities of Pennsylvania, New York, and Ohio, as well as in Britain. In 1884, Zion’s Watch Tower Tract Society was legally incorporated, with C. T. Russell as president, and its charter showed that it was more than a society that would direct publishing. Its real objective was religious; it was chartered for “the dissemination of Bible Truths in various languages.”

interesting article regarding the properties owned by jw's and other sects.. shawangunk - this ulster county town, with a ridge of quartz mountains rising 2,000 feet, is a mecca for rock climbers.

in recent years, religious groups have also begun flocking to the mid-hudson valley municipality of 15,000 residents, putting down roots and scooping up tax breaks.. in 2015, the 29 shawangunk properties with religious non-profit status were worth $148 million, up 85 percent since 1999.. “our town is nearly 30 percent exempt,” said town tax assessor curt schoeberl.

Interesting how the American system seems to be broken then?

Surely the problem here is two-fold?

Firstly the tax-exemption is put into place by central government - but they don't provide grants to local communities to make up for the lost income/tax

Secondly the actual local communities are set up to be too small anyway and are therefore much more susceptible / affected financially when a tax exempt group moves in - the communites are too fragile financially due to their small size to be able to cushion the lose of money due to tax exemption.

But maybe I just don't understand the 'problem'?

And isn't Brooklyn NYC heading for a 'pay day' with annual property taxes on the buildings that WT has sold their? Of course the issue is that Brooklyn is a larger community so as a percentage overall it wouldn't be so significant as for the upstate communities....

Cant they just allow access to JW.org and nothing else - maybe put a parent filter on or something, Im not an expert but maybe they could do that.

The problem is WT are using content management to serve up a lot of their content - so the various downloadable images, pdfs, files, videos etc as well as fonts and javascript etc are being served from other web domains.

Also, there are legitimate reasons to access other websites at the KH - such as an online storage facility (as suggested by WT to keep schedules etc online and available to publishers 24/7) such as google drive or dropbox etc etc - and again they're likely to using other domains to serve content from

Other legitimate websites would be things like the app store / google store so apps can be downloaded, updated and app content can be downloaded.

I think the wifi password thingy is being over-thought here though -

I think WT is basically wanting to make sure there is some kind of password in place - ie it isn't an open free-for-all access - which is fair enough.

Yes some congregations will be a pain and be totally restrictive, the vast majority will password protect, but the password will effectively be an 'open-secret' amongst the publishers.

I think the cleaning 'problem' has been exasperated in recent years by the disintergration of the local group arrangement - on group evening (tuesday?) there would often be the lone publisher or two who managed to remember your group's turn KH cleaning for the weekend, so it was more likely to get done - and a good turn out on f/s as we all stop early to clean the KH late morninging before lunchtime

I attended many congregations that shared with another. The worst was clleaning after a meeting when another congregation would be the next attending one.

For the Sunday, I think it works better to get your own 'crew/group' in early before the meeting and do the cleaning/tidy for your own congregation meeting before the meeting

Of course, if you arrive early enough, before the other congregation have fully left, then all the better...

there continues to be more and more rumors of more halls being sold off some even taking the first offer.

the borg trying to get thier bond money back from the court in san diego asap and there's been elders meetings about this consolidation.

my questions is why after selling off all this real estate in new york for over a billion dollars are they still acting like thier broke?
