What would happen if the number of memorial partakers rose to more than 144,000??
Sorry, On the next page of the thread I read there were two posts asking the same thing!
Guess I was running ahead of the chariot or something...
i saw this on reddit:.
https://www.reddit.com/r/exjw/comments/5mlgsm/2017_yearbook_of_jehovahs_witnesses/.
overall the numbers are better than last year (1.8% growth compared to 1.5% last year -- as i predicted ;-) ) with an increase in all major figures including 1300 more congregations (i assume this is not physical kingdom halls?).

i was on an official tour last week to another part of my country.
on my way to the hotel, i noticed sign-board of jw kingdom hall.
i thought i would attend sunday meeting as i knew no one would recognize me.. seeing “a new-comer” in the audience, public speaker adapted his material making it especially appealing to me.
That was interesting, thank you.
So what are the odds that our galaxy (not even solar system) is the only one that supports life out of the whole 7 trillions of galaxies?
Or, another way, if the chance of life happening spontaneously is a billion to 1, and there are 700 thousand billion billion stars in the universe then that means that life has started all on its own in 700 thousand billion star systems.
Kind of humbling when you think about it isn't it?

Just on the if evolution was true the universe would be full of life point, there are many scenarios where life exists and we would have ZERO chance of ever knowing about it.
1) Life may exist elsewhere but not be intelligent. The planets around other stars may be full of trees and flowers and even bunny rabbits but there is no way of us knowing.
2) Life may exist elsewhere, be intelligent but unable to broadcast detectable signs. There may be small, blue, furry creatures on Alpha Centauri, but if they don't use radios (or point giant lasers at us or something) then there is no way of us knowing they're there.
3) Life may exist elsewhere, be intelligent, be broadcasting signals like crazy but:
3a) Be too far away for their signals to have reached us in the short time we've been listening.
3b) The signals from another civilisation may have washed over planet Earth 1,000 (or 10,000 or 100,000) years ago but then stopped due to them wiping themselves out.
3c) Life may exist elsewhere, be intelligent, be broadcasting within range right at this moment but in a way that we can't detect or interpret as a signal.
4) Life may exist elsewhere but be so different from life on earth that we wouldn't recognise it as life. Maybe deep space is teeming with life that forever avoids the death dealing heat of star systems.
And so on and on.
I'm afraid that although that illustration was pleasingly non-borgian it is still as flimsy as a tramps pants.
it really is great.
i remember browsing this forum the day after i had joined it, and their was a knock on the door.
i thought it was one of my package from ups but instead it was two sisters.
Personally, I feel that an organisation as morally bankrupt and steeped in lies and deception, with laws that are truly evil, such as the JW's organisation could only have been founded upon teachings which are themselves morally bankrupt and evil.
it really is great.

Unless your definition of these terms is radically different from the rest of the English speaking world, I fear this statement is syntactically impossible.
i have a nearly academic interest in the occult, though i am not a spiritualist and remain a skeptic.
i've come to learn that demons are based on everything from dust devils in the desert, to diseases, to actual people.
probably most of all, demons are a tool of good ol' fashioned con artists and fear mongers.. but here's a question.
I like to think that I'm comfortably ex-JW with no beliefs in a spirit realm or demons or anything of that nature, but I still got a twinge of worry when a friend did a Tarot reading for me.
Going to the Witchcraft museum in Boscastle also got the twinges going!
I think that although consciously I have concluded all of it is untrue, there are still hidden subconscious sub-routines in my brain's programming. That's the power of conditioning I suppose.
" and a mighty cry went out over all the land: "sell !

I wonder if they'll go the mainline churches route when the money starts to dry up and start letting the halls be rented out by other groups? Toddler playgroup on a Monday, Satan's Appreciation Group on Wednesdays...

i have been accused recently of "trying to direct my own step" because of my questioning the org and refusing to come back to the "truth" for the past 6 years.
i personally still believe in god, i just doubt that he is behind the jw org, that's all.
why is that so hard for jw's to understand?
"It does not belong to man who is walking even to direct his step".
OK... but in that case it doesn't belong to any other man (or men) to direct his step either.
