i am a lurker on the "witness world" witnesses-only website.
they are having a discussion because someone during door-to-door service confronted them with the un letter.
they are all saying that it is "obviously made up"... but the person is planning on writing to the society to ask.
If you want to post a thread here but avoid getting caught, you need to use an anonymizer service when browsing the WW site so they can't match you up with the JWD site.
Can a person copy and paste posts on notebook, then transfer them here and provide the link? Too much work?

i started attending a church a couple of years ago - i really like it but was really puzzled at first because they sang a lot of songs at the beginning of service.......like 6 or 7. i've gotten used to it - but still didn't really get it.
that is...until this sunday.
No, I think that many of the songs are beautiful. It is the way they are arranged or played or sung that can either bring them to life or deaden them. I'm talking about the music here, not the lyrics - some of which irritates me now.
during my eight month long study with "elder bob" (moms husband) we have batted around many subjects to say the least.
but the one that really stands out is the dreaded date of 607 bc.
im sorry i just will not let up with this date, and him having to prove it can stand.

even when i had read some of russell's works, the same explanation was offered, and so (naturally, as the good little dubber that i was), i assumed that the wts had always taught the same about this passage from daniel.

Meetings are for information cramming, service for many is a duty, even the songs are just to begin, end or break up the program sections. It's 'education' centered, highly structured and uniform so there's little room for spontaneity and expressions of heartfelt joy and celebration for our faith.
Different style, 's'all, but it's a shame - it can make worship mundane and lifeless.

GaryB, I understand - nor should you. She sounded unbalanced and cut off from your needs. I see the angle you are coming from.
I know another couple who were religiously divided when they got married - they were aware of the differences so their eyes were open. It was a challenging marriage to begin with and the husband was very difficult to live with. Years later the wife converted to the JWs. That precipitated years of needling and opposition from the husband. She did acquiesce to many of his demands and chose her 'battles' to keep as much harmony as possible. Yet, she once said that she would not have lasted the distance being a JW had she not had the opposition from her husband. If he had been less rigid in his behavior, she wouldn't have felt the need to fight him, or found comfort and sanctuary at the meetings, and she would have noticed the cracks sooner. That's the angle I'm coming from.
Globetrotter. Whatever advice you choose to go with, whether your marriage goes belly-up or not, I wish you well, I wish you peace and healthy relationships.

Ok, well I've been well and truly put in my place! And Gary, I'm cut that you have had those unimaginably painful experiences. I am greatly sorry that Globetrotter's marriage has deteriorated so much and it's heart-breaking that they are both on a self-destruct course especially as there are children involved.
However, there are lots of people out there who have mixed religion homes who are happy (even, amazingly, WTS and non-WTS members!) - their love and respect for each other transcends their differences.
There are cultish people in every walk of life - cultish in their religions, from Catholics to smaller offbeat religions like the WTS to Islam to whatever, cultish in politics, cultish in sport, leisure activities, etc. etc. It's clear she needs to make changes, but I strongly feel he needs to back off. They BOTH need to stop this deliberate hurting of each other - I wouldn't be surprised if it's down to profound insecurities on both sides.
(Btw, if my posts were read in a different 'tone,' they might not sound so hard.)
