Financial catch-up after the WTS

This is just one more area where the WT has produced a schizoid split in the congregation itself, and in the minds of many witnesses.

One line coming from them is: THE END IS NEAR, NEAR, NEAR. Don't work any more than you have to, go in service. Since the end is NEAR, why plan for retirement if it is more than 5 years down the road??

Only those who think the end IS FAR OFF would plan for retirement, that is my point.

The other line is: contribute, plan for taking care of your elderly parents, use a sound mind. This is incompatible with believing the above horse pucky.

Meanwhile, those who are good at attending, and NOT taking it seriously, who are able to multitask well, have built up serious businesses and retirements. Their lifestyle is kicking the sh** out of those who REALLY took the end time talk seriously.

This is such a fu**ed up cult.

We are all NUTS for having been there.

I want a life! I want to make real money, and be able to say "I did this"!!!! Im just really afraid to take the step forward, since I really dont have the extra support I feel I need! (could be because i have always counted on someone?)

You should be able to enreoll for some type of taster / starter course ... you'll find that you soon get bitten by the bug though - the self pride in your achievement will spur you onto greater things.

I was just encouraged last week to take a nursing course online! Good money, and lots of opportunities! Maybe I should just go for it, and forget my fears! At least its a start! Im tired of being a stay at home mom. And I have to worry about what happens when they leave! Thanks for the advice!

This really is a great thread for us exes. I found that living for the moment was something that the WTS really drilled into us. Why save and prepare for a future that Jehovah was going to take care of? Once that behavior is drilled into you, especially if it starts at a young age, it's really hard to change that mentality. It makes me mad now, considering how much time I wasted on those thoughts. So, in answer to your question, YES, I feel like I'm constantly playing catch up. But do feel better prepared than just a few years ago. Also, it makes me feel better knowing that my future is at least a little more in my control than before.

I was just about to suggest this. You can earn an associate's degree online through long-distance learning (telecourses). I have a part-time job working for the Dallas community college district, transcribing expert interviews that get edited into 30-minute teaching segments for at-home learners. I don't know where you live, but it doesn't really matter since we have students from all over the country. Check out http://dallastelecollege.dcccd.edu/

This a subject that touches me, as I have thought about it for many years.

I have always put as much of my money away as I could, but in cash not in the stock market or other investments as the end of the world was coming and I for some reason thought that gold and cash would be good longer. stupid I know but at least I saved. Also I have never rented and bought a 10 wide trailer when I got married and owned what I have.

We built and sold or remodeled homes and now live in the last one I built on 72 acres, I always reinvested the money made on selling into a bigger property and never never loaned against it. I felt that they can take my car but I will not live in a snow bank.

But I will say that many of the people who have the natural desire to be irresponsible with money use the bull shit from the cult to reinforce the idea that they can spend spend spend and not worry as the big H will bail out the ship when needed. They will be very disappointed.

I saw old man kunde from north Michigan,[dead and gone now] have to work 3 days a week painting [charity work as he was useless] for brothers to supplement his SS just to survive.

My wife's mother and father woods have played all their lives [going to fla. ky. ect always to "help" one of the kids that was getting divorced or some bull shit] and never saving as the big A was coming. But I have planned and me and my wife have worked and saved, the last years putting in to a 401k and maxing out our ira contributions, We are not wealthy so as to buy million dollar homes but we have every thing we own paid for and make a nice living with the income from our investment, but we both still work and want to save more so we can travel and do what we want in 20 years when we are looking at full retirement.

I have said and will always say, when her parents come to an end of the play time, and this is very short in the future, [they are 67 and no longer can work their way out of the holes they dig,and both of their parents have died and they milked the last of the funds from them,] I will now way in hell give them the scraps from my table and would not cross the street to piss on them if they were on fire, but I would if they were not.lol

I will never help those who spit on me for not going to a cult meeting, but need help because they were to stupid to wake up and smell the roses.

I have several uncles and ante's that are in the same mess, an ante that turns the other way when we are going in and out to pick up the post. she is 72 and has to work cleaning homes to survive as she never worked and now that unk is dead she has 450 a month in ss. well tough tittie said the kitty when the milk went dry. I have no sympathy for those that have done nothing and spit on those that have.

Reminds me of the old proverb of the ant and the grasshopper, whether it is done out of pure laziness or because you think the end of the world is coming makes not a difference to me. to some this may sound harsh but I will not back down, My wife wants to have a will to leave here sister and brother each 10% of our estate if we both die, but I know that some would end up with the borg, and can not stand the thought, I can also not tell my wife that she who helped me save and worked along side of me can not leave her twit sister and stupid brother anything, I am still working on a solution for this one, maybe a promise that they can only receive the money if the swear to hovah not to give any to the society,

Excellent question, Simon............I do believe that the WTS personally caused me to negate personal responsibility for my future. However, my sister and her husband have always maintained a view of saving for the future, mostly because of his parents being forward thinkers, even tho they are in the "truth", and are from the "Russell" era. So, I think that some of us did indeed allow ourselves to be subverted, perhaps because this went along with our own personalites or lack of ambition?

Trying very hard to catch up. Anyone know of any good get rich quick schemes for an experienced ex-Watchtower MLM'er? The revenues were good, but I never got my percentage of the take.

Yes. I started my career many yrs late due to borg issues. There is no way to time travel and make up for what is lost, but since then I've done my best to improve my savings and financial situation. I'm ok now, but honestly would be a lot further ahead had I never joined the borg.
