Not Daily - more when i am researching for the WT study or trying to understand the reasoning behind one of the many forbidden things. But if you have one of those little books .. daily scripture ..something. I forget.. you don't need to read the bible daily.. just that thing.

i research specific topics from time to time as I do other religious literature.

i think a person's daily behavior proves much more whether he has "left god" than reading a book or belonging to a group.

When I was in the Organization, I didn't read the Bible every day. And I was a typical elder. And for the record, it isn't "Jehovah's Organization". It is a man made organization that a group has called "Jehovah's Witnesses" based upon a false appliocation of Isa. 43:10. This scripture refers to either Israel or if you will, "spiritual Israel".

    Hey Defd,

Keep in mind that JWD is not an even cross-section of the ex-JW community. Unless I'm wrong, it seems that most of the ex-JW's on JWD no longer believe in the Bible. As such, we don't read it. But there are other active groups of ex-JW's that are very serious about the Bible and Christianity. One that comes to mind is http://towerwatch.com I would guess there are others, but I haven't gone a-hunting for them.

As a JW, I read the Bible often. Definitely weekly, but not daily. I always read it through my Watchtower Specs, though, and once I read it without them I saw many things I'd never seen before.

I have had a lot more interest in the Bible since leaving the JW's. Upon realizing that it most certainly isnt an inspired writing the books make a lot more sense. It's interesting to analyze ancient religious propaganda from a sociological standpoint.

Right now I'm reading " Who Wrote the New Testament?" by Burton Mack. You might like it dfed, check it out.

C'mon mate, this is a bit blinkered even for you. At the moment I dont, but when i feel like i want to start learning again, I will. I want to do this with a cross reference of bibles tho, not just with my NWT (red leather bound, btw).

Remember tho, many on here dont read the bible yet still feel they have a relationship with God. You have to respect people's beliefs, even if you think they are wrong.

You wouldnt say "thats typical of someone who has left God" on the doors would you?

Defd- you are cleverer than that..... theres no need to go down that route.

Glad to see your still about tho !

I have a few bibles, my own women's devotional niv, a few kjvs that were given to my children, and a nwt which I keep purposely in my garage (bad karma )

When I'm online and looking up scripture I like to use this site: http://bible.gospelcom.net/

I can look up scripture in a variety of bible versions, funny thoough this site doesnt have the nwt. Hmmmm wonder why?

read the bible daily? Honestly do you? Or is it collecting dust on a table or shelf somewhere?

There's a problem with this question. It begins with the assumption that the Watchtower Society is "Jehovah's Organization". The existence of the Watchtower Society is an obscenity that can bring only a stench to any god's name. No god that's worthy of worship would associate himself with the whorish Watchtower.

Secondly there is the assumption that the bible has anything to do with "God". If I want to find "God" and love my fellowman I'll follow my heart. if I want to oppress and abuse people I'll turn to the Old Testament of the bible. It's full of great tips on how to deceive, oppress, abuse, and disrespect people. It even gives ideas about mutilating your enemies, nailing their heads to the ground with tent pegs, selling your daughters, genocide, and hating others simply because they don't share the same dellusionary concept of "god".

I don't read the bible daily, but I'm trying to. I bought the NKJV, and am reading through the whole bible with an open mind (what a concept!!) As a JW, I was so disillusioned because what I was reading in the WT did not fit what I was reading in the Bible, that in a last-ditch effort to make sense of my religion, I quit reading the bible.... BIG mistake, imo.

I find that the reading a different version of the bible is very liberating, because whenever I read the NWT, the JW-assigned meaning of the verses would automatically pop into my head. Now I can read the words and think about what they really mean.

I read the Bible over and over while a JW. A lot of it is still stuck in my brain cells. So no I don't continue to pound it into my head.

I don't know why you couldn't ask the same question about any other book considered holy by hundreds of millions of people, such as the Koran. Why is the Bible considered the only religious history book worth investigating? Just because it's a major part of our western culture doesn't mean it has greater intrinsic value. Our culture has assigned it that value because of tradition.
