    Eman,

I guess I more of a philosopher than I thought. John Locke and Frances Bacon are the first to come to my mind.

    Isn't Stephen Hawking English too?

For shame: none of you mentioned Benny Hill.

I'm kind of partial to Mike and Christina..............and Simon and Ang.

I've read all of Daphne Du Maurier too, so have to put her on the list.

    Hey Limey-man, I mean Englishman.

Actually I am just kidding. As Yank, I love my limey cousins. And much of my Yankee mongrel northern European bloodline hails from England. It is unquestionably the heritage I am most proud of.

Anyway, my favorite Englishman would have to be Winston Churchill. Whenever I think of some really awesome quote I have heard, I simply attribute it to Winston Churchill, and as a result I am usually right.

My next would probably be C.S. Lewis.

    After that? Lady Thatcher.

Next? How about The Arthur Wellesley. If the Brits and America never have anything else in common, we will still have to agree to hate the French won't we?!

    I could go on. But I won't.
