I don't know of a formal program - but it seems to me there is still some informal mention from time to time in the KM's about that - although I have not been to any meetings in nearly two years now. Illiteracy may not be the problem it was in this country a few decades back - but you are right about the ulterior motive for the read and write program. Jw's criticise the churches for making 'rice Christians' by setting up schools and training people to farm - but they do the same thing - except no food or farming is taught. At least with 'Christendom' some long term blessings may accrue to those who submit to the help they offer - although there may be some ulterior there too I suppose!
