I was just wondering if there is any reason to hope that my mom and dad will
make it out of the jw's. My mother is very devout, my father is very dedicated
but is more hypoctritical than anything else.
What is worse is that they are both very stuborn and self righteous. My parents
would rather go to their grave knowing they were wrong, then to ever admit it.
So, with those qualities they have, i dont see any hope in getting them out. I
feel like there is nothing i can do.
So, for those of you that had been in for 30+ years, and escaped. What did it
for you, what was the final straw. What was said that made you re-think your
faith?
I know they dont want to associate with me anymore, but i am not sure i am ready
to give up just yet. (per my last post about my mom's email to me)
What advice do you have for me, if any at all. Do i just back away from the
quietly, or is there something i could do?
Any thoughts are appreciated. Thanks!

Hi Monkey Princess, I think I posted before - my parents were Witnesses for 20 years and just left last year. Don't give up!

Satanus-
They are both 51.
They started young, both had horrible childhood's.
I know that at the time that the witnesses came to
their door, they were looking for something better
than what they had. What the witnesses offered
sounded alot better than what they were use to.Six-
I dont think i have heard Gumby's story. I will have
to hope he catches this thread and can post it, or
at least a little encouragment. HEHEMonkeyPrincess

There's always hope. The reality is they probably won't change. But the hope is always out there. They just need something to spark their exit.

Thanks! That does give me hope.
Although, i feel that with my parents
personality traits, i might have more
of a battle on my hands. I dont see
a light at the end of the tunnel right
now. (so to speak)MonkeyPrincess

This might cheer you up - go to member director for 'alw' and read the profile. That's my mum! It might not happen, but at least it proves that it does happen! I never thought in a million years my parents would leave, and the shunning hurt a lot ... I guess you've got to want it for yourself the most, and if they ever do leave (don't give up!) that will come as an added bonus!

I have given up on every Witness I know just like I hope they have given up on trying to control me. I don't like them and I don't want them in my life on any terms at any time. They have treated me and my family nasty. We have had enough.

Garybuss, I agree, sometimes it's healthier to give up & move on ... I guess only you know whether there is a chance and whether it is worth it ...
