It was surreal. Your impressions of the "Monthly Awake!" service meeting?

Neo: The the scriptures most emphasized (hmm...maybe that's what the conductor was doing in advance of the new Awake?) were from Zeph 2:3.
    Zephaniah 2

    1 Gather together, gather together,

    O shameful nation,

2 before the appointed time arrives

and that day sweeps on like chaff,

before the fierce anger of the LORD comes upon you,

before the day of the LORD's wrath comes upon you.

3 Seek the LORD , all you humble of the land,

you who do what he commands.

    Seek righteousness, seek humility;

    perhaps you will be sheltered

on the day of the LORD's anger.

This scripture is psychotically and phobicly recanted at each and every opportunuity in JW circles. It was preached to me thousands of times while I was growing up. It is a direct assault on Christianity which GUARANTEES salvation through Christ alone, which was illustrated in the well witnessed Resurrection. That caveat IS the object of faith which is the enemy of the WT. For without it, the WT has no purpose.... publishers would not need them if they had faith "in Christ", which is a term that appears almost 200 times in the NT btw.

The NWT changes the word "perhaps" to "probably" to further the heresy and to bolster WT importance. Funny how they never quote verse one which clearly indicates that this scripture is directed to the ENTIRE nation and NOT to individuals. Christ came to save individuals, not nations or religions or organizations.

I like the comment about the sister wanting to actually write down the references. It reminds me of my mother who keeps all her notes from assemblies and all her bookmarked pages, etc. She has 30 years of WTS publications and if anyone could have a Watchtower degree it would be her. It's hilarious now when I think of the time and energy spent. It's not like she can even use any of it to get a job.

"do not circulate or download these [unauthorized kingdom song] recordings from the Internet," made the whole service meeting a bit surreal.

Can Anyone tell me what that is all about? What recordings? Where can I get them? Why are they forbidding it?

I heard about those. Some famous witnesses (George Benson) made some studio recordings of them singing "kingdom songs." Remember only the WTBTS is allowed to make money......

    Crumpet,

See the March KM - George Benson CD thread.

The next time I am with my Book Study Conductor/Uber Elder I was thinking of saying something like, "I wonder if their was another reason for going to once per month than just more Bible emphasis, kinda like the Donation Arrangement in the early 90's." When he asks what I am talking about then mention the Jimmy Swaggart deal. If he doesn't believe me I'll pull out a printout of the Friend Of The Court Brief and let him take it home with him.

Heheh. Been giving alot of thought to sly ways of getting people to think.

I downloaded the Kingdom Melodies in the orchestra format a couple of years ago, some of them anyway. If somebody wants a copy I'll burn it and just reimburse me for the shipping charges and envelope (send me a PM).

Edited to add: They really did a wonderful job of "Myriads of Brothers", especially the rousing conclusion.

I reckon this change will definitely negatively impact on the JW preaching activity. It's going to be really boring offering a monthly magazine instead of a different one every fortnite. You know how it is: some Awake cover articles are just so lame it's an embarrassment to offer them to the public, so you only used to offer the ones that were slightly interesting. What are all the borg going to be offering now to ease the boredom - offer the Watchtower more? Shyea right! The Watchtower is even more boring and irrelevant for the public. This is probably why they are encouraging everyone to use their bibles more, cuz the magazine work is bound to drop off a bit. But of course the borg are lazy and can't be stuffed actually engaging people in serious biblical discussions; it's just so much easier to hand those pretty maggies out on a Saturday morn to all the bleary-eyed householders coming to the door in their dressing gowns. So no doubt there will be a greater emphasis on brochures and books too from now on to boost sales.

When I think of all the extra magazines that would pile up because they couldn't be placed...I may have found the reason... maybe they won't have as many firestarters left over if they cut it down to once a month.
