am posting on behalf of my husband:

Beatles hands down. George is his favorite, next up is John and then Paul. What more need be said?

For me, (black) my hubby introduced me to Georges solo stuff after we were married and I really liked the Eastern influence. John had an increbile ability to write inspiring lyrics and Paul was so musically correct. The combination of these 4 musicians was powerful.

The Stones definitely have their place. No one could take their place. That whole british invasion thing was pretty sweet. The Who, The Kinks a unique sound.

I do have to say, Jimmy Page was SO talented. (dark)

I used to think he had very attractive and soulful eyes.

Please allow me to introduce myself
I?m a man of wealth and taste
I?ve been around for a long, long year
Stole many a man?s soul and faith
And I was ?round when jesus christ
Had his moment of doubt and pain
    Made damn sure that pilate
Washed his hands and sealed his fate
    Pleased to meet you
    Hope you guess my name
    But what?s puzzling you
Is the nature of my game
    I stuck around st. petersburg
When I saw it was a time for a change
Killed the czar and his ministers
    Anastasia screamed in vain
    I rode a tank
    Held a general?s rank
    When the blitzkrieg raged
    And the bodies stank
    Pleased to meet you
Hope you guess my name, oh yeah
    Ah, what?s puzzling you
Is the nature of my game, oh yeah
    I watched with glee
    While your kings and queens
    Fought for ten decades
    For the gods they made
    I shouted out,
    Who killed the kennedys?
    When after all
    It was you and me
    Let me please introduce myself
I?m a man of wealth and taste
And I laid traps for troubadours
Who get killed before they reached bombay
    Pleased to meet you
Hope you guessed my name, oh yeah
    But what?s puzzling you
Is the nature of my game, oh yeah, get down, baby
    Pleased to meet you
Hope you guessed my name, oh yeah
    But what?s confusing you
Is just the nature of my game
Just as every cop is a criminal
    And all the sinners saints
    As heads is tails
    Just call me lucifer
?cause I?m in need of some restraint
    So if you meet me
    Have some courtesy
Have some sympathy, and some taste
    Use all your well-learned politesse
Or I?ll lay your soul to waste, um yeah
    Pleased to meet you
Hope you guessed my name, um yeah
    But what?s puzzling you
Is the nature of my game, um mean it, get down
    Woo, who
    Oh yeah, get on down
    Oh yeah
    Oh yeah!
Tell me baby, what?s my name
Tell me honey, can ya guess my name
Tell me baby, what?s my name
I tell you one time, you?re to blame
    Ooo, who
    Ooo, who
    Ooo, who

Traditionally Soul & Rhythm and Blues, I have developed over time a better than keen interest in Rock Music. The Stones, however are the ones who get my vote.

Good to see George Harrison getting a mention - he certainly seems to have been the most spiritual of all the Beatles. I was really sad to hear of his untimely death.

I was once trying to buy a set guitar strings in Delhi and wandered into a back street music shop. Over the counter was a picture of George Harrison with a slightly younger version of the shop owner; the photo had been taken a few years previous. It was the shop where George had bought the sitar he played on the Beatles albums.

eyeslice, that's a pretty good little anecdote.

If I was to have 3 wishes, one of them would be to go back and catch the Beatles playing at the Cavern, or on the roof years later for their finale.

Beatles... But the stones come at second... then Led Zep...

    BTW, who's counting the votes?

Stones..I never took to John Lennon, even less to Yoko Ono. Just so pretentious and precious IMHO. Plus I can't abide the Liverpool accent!

    Englishman.
