I wonder if it ever happened that an elder accepted a bribe from a brother or sister caught in some bad sin and not wanting it to be public?

No. It is impossible for an elder to be bribed.

If the 'sinner' is a close relative of the elder(s), there won't be any necessity for a bribe. The Elder(s) will shut right up.

I should know, being the daughter of an elder and getting away with all kinds of crap now and way back then.

There have been rumors about this in third world countries' congregations - like India, for example.

I wouldn't be at all surprized.
