Do You Feel That Stereotyping Nationalities Is Necessarily Wrong?

Well, when Americans are stereotyped as brash, arrogant, irreverent, immoral, swaggering, isolationist gun nuts with incurable self-confident chauvanism that love porn, the open road, fast food, and big gas guzzling cars... it, um, really offends me... yeah... I guess on behalf of other people I know, it offends me... um... I guess if I didn't thump them myself, I'd be offended for them... um... wait... huh??? I'm going to go shoot something... hm...

Yes, it's wrong, but it makes for great comedy material! Most stereotypes have some element of truth in it, but it unfair to take it seriously and apply it to everyone.

Of course it's wrong ... unless you're happy to be 'just another loud mouthed dumb American'

  • Panda

LOL Simon! Of course I agree it's wrong unless you're just another British dental-disaster.

No. They're not wrong, and at times, they can be right.

For instance, young black men have a thing for older white women.

Gee, I don't know where they get that stereotype from.

    i totally agree with wildthing

Stereotyping individuals based on their background is usually a bad move. But sometimes there are traights found in large groups of people of a certain background that are common to a large number of them.

  • czarofmischief

CRR - EVERYONE has a thing for older white women.

  • ColdRedRain

Yeah, I know what you mean. Those damn West Indians always hump the first thing they see when they're in America, even if it's a beached albino sea cow on the Florida coast, or at least what looks like a beached albino sea cow on the Florida coast :)

CRR, of the proud to be West Indian class.

  • ColdRedRain

    Yup, they do.
