It is indeed quite strange. In this country we have no separation between church and state. We do in fact have a state religion.
Our public schools teach religion although in a quite neutral way. I think the French and the American system are far superior
to the system we have with a clear separation. Yet people will have little problems being elected to public office here being atheist,
and in France as indeed several countries in western europe being an atheist will not raise any problems.
I wonder why things are so totally different in the US?
