First communism and socialism are hypothetical constructs which evolve into economic institutions. When they evolve they never take on the same shape as the neighboring comunist or socialist nations. But that isn't anything to do with disfellowshipping.

Shunning is thousands of years old and has been used in EVERY society in order to make sure the social arrangement doesn't change. Every group from family to tribe to nation used shunning. People needed to know that whoever they associated with would act or accept certain criteria. So shunning is cultural in its origins.

In the US religious shunning has always rested on a bed of barbed wire superstition ie., Witch burnings, drownings, etc.

Shunning for young women in Islam usually ends in death (murder by a brother or uncle) and is based on family honor. In northeast Africa Islamic honor is further purpatrated on young girls through female circumcision without which they might as well kill the girl because it besmerches family honor.

Shunning in the orthodox Jewish communities resembles the JW df'ing. And is the model for the WTS.

Shunning and df'ing are about fear of the unknown, ignorance and misogyny. If you become curious, educated and a humanitarian you will by process cease to adhere to the superstitious fears and becomne free. The controlling entity doesn't want this infection of knowledge to spread therefore spelling their demise. So kick out the smart people with real consciences. Its very immature but in the hands of adults very dangerous. Heck in the hands of kids its dangerous. Have you ever read "the lord of the flies"?

Politically this happened in the US during the McCarthy trials and blacklisting. The fear at that time was communist infiltration of America --poisoning the democratic republic population. The people were not smart enough to protect themselves so the government needed to legislate protection. The outcome? every specialist on the Soviets Union and communism became suspect. They lost their jobs. Eventually when France pulled out of Vietnam the US moved in without any background on the area or politics. No more east Asian specialists to advise Pres.Kennedy or Pres.Johnson. Just a bunch of hardline guys wanting to make sure the USSR didn't get this cold water port. and so on.

So, shunning always has negative ramifications. Shunning is ALWAYS done out of ignorance.

Panda, my question was, "is it a communist front?" Yes, most, if not all cultures do have a system of punishment. My thoughts center of quick or snap of the finger disfellowshipping. In one hand they quickly disfellowship anyone asking questions, yet, keep the pedophiles safe. Something is not kosher here.

About Communism. Myron C. Fagan has written, directed, and produced...Dramas, Comedies, Mysteries, Allegories on Broadway. With the aid of certain Congressmen, he exposed communism in Hollywood and government. He had written two plays about communism, one play was titled, "Red Treason in Hollywood." He has documented proof who these communist are and he cites 300 names in his book. If this were not true, they would have sued his pants off, but nobody has.

You asked What is the real truth behind disfellowshipping? If by communistic you mean totalitarian yes jws are that.

Those who were blacklisted didn't have the resources or the rights back then to sue anyone. we are so used to lawsuits today that you've got to look at the entire picture of the 1950's, not just what some nut job "claims". If those blacklisted had the chance they'd have sued ... of course that's if they found a lawyer to take the case... not in that town and not then.

Yes, Panda that's what I meant. I agree that back in the 50's, 'if' exjw's knew what they know today, there would have been plenty of lawsuits. The question of baptism today is worded in such a way that one cannot sue the org., very clever don't you think?

They have made emotional 'cripples' out of their followers.

It is all about control. The real truth is - only I can decide who has the control over me. As long as I stilL thought as a JW (or even as an x-jw) I was controlled by the DF'ing. I went along with the shunning by avoiding contact with JW's in public places - letting JW's I run into that didn't know I was DF'd my situation - etc.

It was only when I realized that I have the control to give or take to anyone that I was finally free of THEIR control. They still think they're in control - but they're not. I talk to whomever I please - and they can decide if they want to respond or not. I don't divulge whether or not I was a JW or my standing to people who I know are JW's. I do not avoid anyone - in fact, I run into JW's all the time that know me and I smile, wave, ask them how they're doing. Some have gotten so used to it that they stop and talk to me like I'm an old aquaintance - they seem almost to forget where they knew me from. Others still nod and then walk/run the other way. That's fine. Because I still have the control.

The sad part is when it involves family who are still under the "control" of the JW's. There is so many people hurt here by their DF'ing policy - it breaks my heart.

Dawn you hit the nail on the head. Like you, I too stopped and asked, wait, who's in control of my life, me or them? The light bulbs went on and I haven't turned back.

I 'm happy and glad for you. It was easy for me to depart because I'm an independent person. I feel for those who are stuck and find it difficult to break away from control.
