Drinking and driving? Would/have you ever done it? My cousin (non-JW) died in a car accident related to a drunken driver in my mid-teen years ? he was very cool, I miss him.

However, I?m interested in your opinion. I admit, in my younger years (teens, early-twenty?s), I did drink and drive, but now, I try and avoid it at any cost! However, even now, I?ve had a few drinks at a restaurant, and have driven home! What do you folks think about this? I?m trying to avoid the practice, but I was raised in an era where it was ?OK!? Well, now I?m thinking that it isn?t ?OK? and I should avoid it 100%!

However, some your folks may feel you have a right to do so. Of course, WT now disapproves of such, but when I was at Brooklyn Bethel, from 1978-1980, booze ruled! When the garbage trucks hulled-off the tons of garbage at 124 Columbia Heights, you could hear all the beer bottles (everyone knew "that" smashing sound), crashing in the steel-frame box of the garbage truck! It was embarrasing in my younger years at Bethel, when I heard/saw it! But now, with all the (justified) emphaiss on discreet conduct regarding alcholhol consuption (even ouside of the BORG), I have a different view!

I'm intersted in hearing your opinions! Thank you in advance for your kindly comments!

I really don't think there's many people who have driven and felt like they shouldn't have afterwards... myself included.

A friend of mine got nabbed for over the limit... it really ruined his life in a lot of ways. Just one more reminder not to do it. Insurance was over $5,000 per year for him here after that. That's 5,000.00! Just to drive! The insurance companies do not like that ticket one bit!

I live in a small town, and everybody does it. There's not really a taxi, and people love to just get pissed... which is really boring, IMO. As I type this, the bar got let out, and I hear people driving down the street. People wait for the cop to pull someone over (that waits) outside the bar, then they go go go.

A 19 year old girl crashed her truck on a logging road just last Saturday night, seriously injuring one person who was trapped in the vehicle for over 2 hours. They had to wait for a logging truck to radio for help, while the injured just sat there trapped. 4 A.M. they have to call an ambulance, call in a doctor,

For what? Just to get pissed. It's called alcohol abuse when you can't have a good time without having a drink. Unfortunately, people who abuse alcohol are some of the worst (but not the only) offenders.

There's been a couple times when I drove and probably shouldn't have. I wasn't falling down drunk or anything like that, but pretty buzzed.

I rear-ended somebody one time when I was stoned. It wasn't a bad accident, I just zoned out and when I snapped-to it was too late. I don't know if it was the weed though, as I smoked and drove all the time and never had problems.

I'm pretty cautious these days, because if I was ever to do something that resulted in somebody being injured seriously or worse, I don't know that I would be able to live with that.

Yeah, I'm pretty careful about this too... I actually keep a little breathalizer in my car for when I've been drinking. I won't drive if I'm more than .04% (Legal is .08% here in Texas).

I have never been a big fan of drinking. Just doesn't do anything for me. I do not judge others who enjoy it, but I draw the line at drinking when over the limit.

There simply is no excuse for it.

I will promise that if someone is driving drunk, and injures my family in an accident, they are going to regret the day they ever meet me.

Very simple. Control your drinking, or don't drive.

I won't drive if I feel any sort of buzz from alcohol. Fortunately, I can drink a couple without feeling anything. It usually takes four drinks within an hour for me to feel anything at all.

    no!

I enjoy drinking, a lot. On the rare occassion that Mike and I go to a party or the bar (very rare) we make sure its within walking distance (love living near down town) or if its not, one of us (usually Mike) does not drink or drinks only at the beginning. Its bad bad bad and I try to be really responsible.

I have in the past, but it just isn't worth it anymore. Actually, I don't drink that much anymore since I left the witnesses. My life dosen't suck enough to need it most of the time, now.

As a triage nurse and trauma specialists, I hope that NONE of you ever do. I meet far too many people involved in an DUI accident every evening I work.
