Maybe they named them that because peanuts have a slightly salty taste, and you can get 'em by the sack....

Monkey Nuts are specifically peanuts in their shells - they aren't a generic name for peanuts.

This is just too funny! We call the shelled with skins "redskins" or spanish peanuts

The skinless (trying to contain myself) we call "blanched peanuts".

and in the shell are "goobers". LOLOL

But seriously, why do Brits call em Monkey Nuts???? Is it for the obvious reason? Cause I am thinking that Brits are just too proper to name them that and keep a straight face!

We Brits call anyone "monkeys" anyone who "monkeys around". A monkey, here, can be another word for cowboy, it is also equal to 500 quid. 1 quid = 1.83 US dollars, not to forget the monkey wrench. And Monkey Magic - except that wasn't British but had a cult following in the UK.
