A little of this and a beer or two will also do the trick.

    aye Gumby ya bastard!

I take Valerian Root like Elsewhere, but only when I am having muscle spasms or other aches because it also relaxes the muscles. Two side affects I have when I take it is vivid dreams and any loud noise tends to be over execrated on this for me, plus I'm really groggy in the morning so I have to take it really early like before PM in order to be awake and out the door for work by AM the next day.

Another sleep aid which I really love because I have no side affects but I only take it during times when I just can't sleep is the one they put in Tylenol Night Time, only they make it just alone without the Tylenol. It works great! However I do have to take it early also in order to be awake the next morning and functional. Check where they sell Tylenol Night Time.....I usually buy the pseudo non name brand of the same stuff it's cheaper, like Walgreens brand.

Anyway I would try these OTC methods first and see how you do with them before spending the time and money to see a doctor, unless your problem is complicated by some other condition that a Doc should be aware of.

    Sweet dreams!

Do you pay for meds or do you have a drug plan? This is the clincher what ever is free samples from your Doc may,do if there are minimal side effects.

Don't be shy about asking,i have $300.00 worth of free viagra sitting in my bedstand drawer. It goes for $10.00 a pop at the pharamacy.

..If it's free it's for me. Undaunted D.

I personally don't care for prescription sleep aids due to the side effect of daytime drowsiness. Some people have difficulty shaking off sleep with them in the morning. For the record though, my boss most frequently prescribes Ambien for our patients who are having difficulty sleeping due to chronic pain issues.

Another option is a low dose anti-depressant. Many anti-depressant medications cause drowsiness, taken at a low dose (a dose not optimal for treating depression) you can get the benefit of the side effect, sleep well and wake in the am without that drugged feeling. The anti-depressants Trazadone (50-150 mg) and Remeron (15 to 30 mg) are often prescribed as sleep aids.
