PAINT WITH ALL THE COLORS OF THE WIND

You think I'm an ignorant savage
And you've been so many places
I guess it must be so
    But still I cannot see
If the savage one is me
Now can there be so much that you don't know?
    You don't know ...

You think you own whatever land you land on
The Earth is just a dead thing you can claim
But I know every rock and tree and creature
Has a life, has a spirit, has a name

You think the only people who are people
Are the people who look and think like you
But if you walk the footsteps of a stranger
You'll learn things you never knew you never knew

Have you ever heard the wolf cry to the blue corn moon
Or asked the grinning bobcat why he grinned?
Can you sing with all the voices of the mountains?
Can you paint with all the colors of the wind?
Can you paint with all the colors of the wind?

Come run the hidden pine trails of the forest
Come taste the sunsweet berries of the Earth
Come roll in all the riches all around you
And for once, never wonder what they're worth

The rainstorm and the river are my brothers
The heron and the otter are my friends
And we are all connected to each other
In a circle, in a hoop that never ends

How high will the sycamore grow?
If you cut it down, then you'll never know
And you'll never hear the wolf cry to the blue corn moon

For whether we are white or copper skinned
We need to sing with all the voices of the mountains
We need to paint with all the colors of the wind

You can own the Earth and still
All you'll own is Earth until
You can paint with all the colors of the wind.

Wednesday, what beautiful words. Thank you for sharing them.

Satanus, I love the song: Because. And it was John who said, "Love is all you need." Now I have it playing through my head.

Here is a song written about Woodstock. I used to think it sounded like the crowds who gathered to hear Jesus speak and to be healed by him.

Lay Down (Candles in the Rain)

Melanie performs this song with The Edwin Hawkins Singers(the group who did O Happy Day)Lyrics: (copied exactly from the album liner notes)

    chorus*
lay down lay down, let it all down
let your white birds smile up at the
    ones who stand and frown
lay down lay down, let it all down
let your white birds smile up at the
    ones who stand and frown*

we were so close, there was no room
we bled inside each others wounds
we all had caught the same disease
and we all sang the songs of peace

    chorus

so raise the candles high cause if you
don't we could stay black against the night
oh raise them higher again and if you
do we could stay dry against the rain

    chrous

we were so close there was no room
we bled inside each others wounds
we all had caught the same disease
and we all sang the songs of peace
some came to sing, some came to pray
some came to keep the dark away
    so raise the candles high
cause if you don't we could stay
    black against the sky
oh oh raise them higher again
and if you do we could stay dry against the rain
    chorus

    One of my favorites.

Here's an anti establishment/anti-war song. I guess sort of. This was done by Jefferson Airplane. Still a very good song to this day.

    Lather

Lather was thirty years old today,
They took away all of his toys.
His mother sent newspaper clippings to him,
About his old friends who'd stopped being boys.
There was Harwitz E. Green, just turned thirty-three,
His leather chair waits at the bank.
And Seargent Dow Jones, twenty-seven years old,
    Commanding his very own tank.
But Lather still finds it a nice thing to do,
To lie about nude in the sand,
Drawing pictures of mountains that look like bumps,
And thrashing the air with his hands.

But wait, oh Lather's productive you know,
He produces the finest of sound,
Putting drumsticks on either side of his nose,
Snorting the best licks in town,
    But that's all over...

Lather was thirty years old today,
And Lather came foam from his tongue.
He looked at me eyes wide and plainly said,
Is it true that I'm no longer young?
And the children call him famous,
what the old men call insane,
    And sometimes he's so nameless,
That he hardly knows which game to play...
    Which words to say...
And I should have told him, "No, you're not old."
And I should have let him go on...smiling...babywide.

    Tupac Shakur~ Unconditional Love

What y'all want?)Unconditional Love (no doubt)
Talking bout the stuff that don't wear off
    It don't fade
It'll last for all these crazy days
    These crazy nights
Whether you wrong or you right
    I'm a still love you
    Still feel you
    Still there for you
    No matter what (hehe)
You will always be in my heart
    With unconditional love

Come listen to my truest thoughts, my truest feelings
All my peers doing years beyond drug dealing
How many caskets can we witness
Before we see it's hard to live
This life without God, so we must ask forgiveness
Ask mama why i got this urge to die
Witness the tears falling free from my eyes
    Before she could reply
Though we were born without a silver spoon
My broken down TV, show cartoons in my living room (hey)
One day I hope to make it
    A player in this game
Mama don't cry, long as we try
    Maybe things change
    Perhaps it's just a fantasy
A life where we don't need no welfare
    Shit with our whole family
Maybe it's me that caused it
    The fighting and the hurting
In my room crying cause I didn't want to be a burden
Watch mama open up her arms to hugging
And I ain't worried bout a damn thang, with unconditionl love

In this game the lesson's in your eyes to see
Though things change, the future's still inside of me
We must remember that tomorrow comes after the dark
So you will always be in my heart, with unconditional love

Just got the message you've been calling all week
Been out here hustling on these streets, ain't had a chance to speak
But you know, with you and me it's on G
We could never be enemies, cause you been such a good friend to me
Where would I be without my dogs
No wonder why when times get hard
Cause it ain't easy being who we are
Driven by my ambitions, desire higher positions
So I proceed to make Gs, eternally in my mission
Is to be more than just a rap musician
    The elevation of today's generation
    If could make 'em listen
Prison ain't what we need, no longer stuck in greed
Time to play and strategize, my family's gotta eat
When we make somethin out of nothing
No pleasure in the suffering, neighborhood would be good
If they could cut out all the busting
The liquor and the weed the cussing
Sending love out to my block
The struggle never stops (unconditional love)

I'll probably never understand ya ways
With everyday I swear I hear ya
Trying to change your ways while gettin paid at the same time
Just had a baby with the same >>>eyes<<<
Something inside, please let me die these are strange times
How come I never made it
Maybe it's the way the played it in my heart
I knew one day I gotta be a star
My hopes and all my wishes
So many vivid pictures, and all the currency
I'll never even get to see
This fast life soon shatter us
Cause after all the lights and screams
    Nothing but my dreams matter
    Hoping for better days
Maybe a peaceful night, baby don't cry
    Cause everythang gonna be alright
Just lay your head on my shoulder
Don't worry bout a thang baby
    Girl I'm a soldier (huh)
Never treated me bad, no matter who I was
You still came with that, unconditional love

Hey, Kate, that Fat Bottomed Girls, the other song on that 45 was a consciousness raising song, too. It said to us, "Hey, dudes: them fat bottoms is sexy, too." I liked the song they did for the movie Highlander. Was it Who Wants To Live Forever?

Looking forward to your 60s songs now.

LOL Flyin, believe it or not I sorta got sick of Fat Bottomed Girls........it was played way too much at the biker bars, well them was the days I was hanging out in biker bars.

So you wanna here my 60's songs, oy vay you may regret this but here goes just for a warm up:

The original version is the one I grew up with by The Guess Who a band from Canada and was co written by Randy Bachman of Bachman, Turner Overdrive, or BTO I could only find Lenny Kravitz remake of it which I really loved and bought his CD just for this song:

American Woman ( Guess who / Austin powers Soundtrack )

    Huh!
American woman Stay away from me
    American woman
    Mama let me be

Don't come hanging around my door
I don't want to see your face no more
I got more important things to do
Than spend my time growin' old with you

    Now woman Stay away
American woman Listen what I say

American woman Get away from me
    American woman
    Mama let me be

Don't come knocking around my door
I don't want to see your shadow no more
    Colored lights can hypnotize
    Sparkle someone else's eyes

    Now woman Get away
American woman Listen what I say

    Huh!
American woman I said get away
    American woman
    Listen what I say

Don't come hanging around my door
Don't want to see your face no more
I don't need your war machines
I don't need your ghetto scenes Colored lights can hypnotize
    Sparkle someone else's eyes

    Now woman Get away
American woman Listen what I say

    American woman
    Stay away from me
    American woman
    Mama let me be

    I gotta go
    I gotta get away
    And I gotta go
    I wanna fly away

I'm gonna leave you, woman I'm gonna leave you, woman
    I'm gonna leave you, woman
I'm gonna leave you, woman Bye bye, bye bye
Bye bye, bye bye American woman
    You're no good for me
And I'm no good for you American woman
I look you right straight in the eye
Tell you what I'm gonna do
American woman I'm gonna leave you woman
    You know I gotta go

    I'm gonna leave you woman
    I gotta go
    IIIIII gotta go
I gotta go american woman yeah

    Ball Of Confusion
by: The Temptations People moving out, people moving in, why? Because of the color of their skin. Run, run, run but you sure can't hide. An eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth, vote for me and I'll set you free. Ohh, brother, rap on. Well, the only person talking 'bout love my brother is the preacher. And it seems, nobody's interested in learning but the teacher. Segregation, determination, demonstration, integration, activation, humiliation, obligation to the nation. Ball of confusion, that's what the world is today. The sale of pills are at an all-time high, your folks' walkin' 'round with their heads in the sky. Sad is a flame in the summertime, awwwwww, and the beat goes on. Evolution, revolution, gun control, sound of soul, shooting rockets to the moon, kids growing up too soon. Politicians say more taxes will solve everything. And the band played on. So, 'round and around and around we go, where the world's headed, nobody knows. I say, oogie boogie can't you hear me talkin' to you? Just a ball of confusion, that's what the world is today. Fear in the air, tension everywhere, unemployment rising fast, the Beatles' new record's a gas, and the only safe place to live is on an Indian Reservation. And the band played on. Eve of destruction, tax deduction, city inspectors, bill collectors, power going to the man , population out of hand, suicide, too many bills, hippies moving to the hills, people all over the world are shouting "end the war." And the band played on. I say oogie boogie can't you hear me talkin' to you? Say, a ball of confusion, that's what the world is today. Lemme hear ya, lemme hear ya, lemme hear ya, lemme hear ya say Ball of confusion, that's what the world is today.
The formating is all messed up......I'll post more later.

Kate, that song could be about today if you change Beatles to something current and record to CD. Andy and I love that song. I'm also a huge Motown fan.

American Woman, I wonder if he means Lady Liberty in a sarcastic way. I prefer the Guess Who version.

Biker bars. I never went in one. I did used to date a guy who would give me rides everywhere on his sportster though. I have a feeling those biker mammas would have kicked my a$$. But you never know. I might have been their little mascot.

Share some more, Kate and everyone. This is interesting.

    Dust in Wind Lyrics
    Kansas

I close my eyes, only for a moment, and the moment's gone
All my dreams, pass before my eyes, a curiosity
Dust in the wind, all they are is dust in the wind.
Same old song, just a drop of water in an endless sea
All we do, crumbles to the ground, though we refuse to see

Dust in the wind, all we are is dust in the wind

[Now] Don't hang on, nothing lasts forever but the earth and sky
It slips away, and all your money won't another minute buy.

Dust in the wind, all we are is dust in the wind
Dust in the wind, everything is dust in the wind.

This line makes me think of Proverbs and the striving after the wind scripture. How life is like striving after the wind.

Thank you, Cic. Beautiful song. Beautiful arrangement, too.
